Gregg lived behind me in Richmond Hill, Ga. He drove a special colored corvette a lot everywhere with also his bikes. We used to drive up his neighborhood and went to his door a couple times. His planter by the front door was a pair of his jeans shellacked. He sent me and my husband an 8x10 signed photo which I still have. This was over 20 years ago. Absolutely loved running into him around town. Nicest most polite soft spoken man you would ever meet… sweet memories!!

The guy was absolutely as real as a performer can be. When you do something about him you hear his life running through the veins of this instrument and in the lyrics of his songs. He wrote songs in such a way that almost everyone can relate to the changes, the pain, the surprises, the desperation of just what life can hand Us. Having work to show circuit on the road for over 20 years myself I can relate to the midnight Rider and so many other songs. Ya, he and his brother had a rough life. Their dad was murdered when the boys were just a few years old. Their Mother had to send them to a military school so she could put herself thru school to learn a skill to raise her boys. But Gregg felt like she abandoned him. (As he got older he said he realized the she did the best she could) But to live without either parent at such a young age I'm sure takes it's toll on a young child.. Then to lose his brother at such a young age! Gregg definitely experienced some pain in his life!

Have loved the Allmans since I first heard them on the radio when I was like 14 or 15. I'm a late millennial, but I quickly got obsessed with their music and held Fillmore East up as a holy relic in high school. It was just different, they let the music stretch out and speak for itself, and what dynamics! Quiet as a whisper or louder and fastrr than a freight train. And just the quality of songwriting Gregg put out, and the seriousness with which they pursued their sound. Duane was part of the holy trinity of guitar players to me as a teen. What a trip to later learn they recorded most of their stuff just an hour's drive away from my homwtown, hell, Dickey was born and grew up literally a couple blocks from me as I write this! That made them even more special. Beyond the music and the abject tragedy of their losses, I'll always have a very special place in my heart for the Allman Brothers, moreso than lot of other bands I listen to probably more often. I still can't believe Gregg is gone, and so long ago now. I can't imagine what it must have been like back in the day, hearing about first Duane and then Berry. At their peak. Unreal. Allmans for all time, man.

I first saw the Allman Brothers in 1972, just a few months after Duane died. I would see them 7 more times...Gregg's voice was the best blues voice anywhere. It had some rough times, but when he got off the drugs and alcohol, it came back and he was singing like a young man again...what a great musician, good soul. ABB had a huge influence on me musically. I'm 63 and I still listent to their music and marvel at what a great collection of musicians they were.

My older brother had their albums. I would look at the album jackets and we would talk as the music played. I was 11 my brother 16. My brother died unexpectedly two years ago. Hearing the soulful sound of Gregg’s voice now is gut wrenching and also bittersweet. It takes me back to happy times. When you lose a sibling the pain is always there. When Gregg said they took him into the chapel….I felt that because I also experienced that.

Great Band! I was fortunate enough to win front row seats off the best radio station in St. Louis Missouri K-SHE 95 ,,, At the River Port Amphitheater . It was epic and one of the top 5 concert's i ever seen, A young Lad of 16 years of age played Slide Guitar like 2nd to none. I believe it was Dicky's nephew maybe,,, Not sure on that anymore, but he was a wicked guitar picker for sure! Greg did a awesome job,, never missed a lick. I very much appreciate seeing them up close and personal,,,

Got a chance to see The Allman Brothers Band, with the Blues Travelers opening act, Great show my
only con was that The Allman Brothers Band played a mash up of all their hits coming back to the one
the started with Sweet Mallissa , and I know the time of one Allman Brothers Band song can take
20 minutes or more so show time is limited, but we still enjoyed

    We will miss him forever

I have enjoyed watching and listening to this in depth and insightful video so very, very much. A splendid job of capturing the essence of some of the greatest rocking blues artists of all time. I woke up one morning, out of the blue with the song I'm No Angel running clear through my mind to start the day. I don't know why, but caused me to look back and really, really appreciate what fine artist all of them were. Thank you for creating this great video!

I’ve rode down Hillcrest Avenue so many times to this day. We walked thur Rosehill Cemetery back in October, when we were teens in the 70’s we’d sit on Elizabeth Reeds grave and smoke a dobbie but my best memory is meeting Gregg at a jam session at a home on Rocky Creek Road in Macon!!

Hearing how Greg found the title to his song, Melissa, reminds me a lot of how Carol Connors found a line to a different song, that was also terribly in need of finishing. And, that had her pouring over it, until she did.
At least, that's what it said in an article I read somewhere, several decades ago.
What she had so far was,
    "Come show me your kindness,
    "In your arms I know..."
Somewhere in there is where it ended.
Although she wanted to use the first part, it just wasn't working.
I want to say that what happened was in a diner, a gas station, or a grocery store. It was a long time ago.
Anyway, someone came up to the counter, maybe even pointed at some directions or a map, and said,
"I need to find this. Find THIS".
When her brain latched onto it, there it was. The rest of the line:
    "Come show me your kindness
In your arms I know I'll find this".
I don't know about anyone else, but, I consider it one of the most stirring and romantic stanzas of lyrics I've ever heard.
When you hear the music and lyrics together, I think it sets a mood that's very clear.
BTW, this comes from a frustrated song writer, who will never hear a piece of my music outside a few garage bands.

The first concert I went to was the first concert After Deane died. I was twelve years old and we'd just moved to Macon Georgia.
    It was before Barry died.
    I won't ever forget it.
Berry's son was so short, small, and young that he couldn't be seen. That was The Best Solo drummer I've EVER heard. That little boy was Amazing and grew up to be a great musician in his own right but I'll never forget the little boy drummer!😪
