I wont lie, i'm a little scared to start at an older age, but your videos help me mentally prepare and feel like I might come in with the right expectations and general understanding of the art. While I bump up my cardio at the gym, I love playing your newest video to get me pumped for my future in September!
Hi, I just started practicing Kendo at the age of 61yrs old... I decided to quit smoking about six months ago, came across a Kendo Class in my area, and have been doing this for two months now. I am having fun, the instructors are being patient, and in my last class I found I was not the one out of breath or lagging behind. Much to the dismay of a couple of the younger guys :-) Our sensei says I can try out wearing the Bogu after about three months, so I am looking forward to taking it to the next level. Give it a go and enjoy.
This video is so helpful in not just what to look for in attacking position but also remembering how to defend myself by not allowing openings so I don't become a human piñata. Haha. Thank you so much! I always appreciate your analysis and answers to why's. Can you make more of these? Hehe. I especially like the front view with circles and labels so I can imagine what I am looking for when I'm facing the opponent.
When I am hearing your plugs for Kendostar, I am thinking that you need a catch phrase or perhaps more functional marketing slogan. Old tv ads like by Flatt and Scruggs for Martha White Flour had a catchy punchline. And, please don’t be apologetic for marketing. Remember this Haiku, “Raid kills roaches dead.” That did more for brand loyalty than almost any other marketing tactic in the USA. Best of luck, and I really appreciate your content.
Hi Andy, I hope there will be more videos about opportunities for an attack like observing the breating and movements from my opponent. You covered a range of opportunities for shikake waza. Maybe you can add some opportunities for applying oji waza too (e.g. timing, seme). Thanks for the video :)
hi there, I'm not saying you shouldn't promote kendostar since it's what fuels the channel but I'm gonna say that you're doing it too much at the start of the video. You already have the site name on the intro and you also do the prologue, but even after saying that you're gonna get into the video there's still a short clip about kendostar. I'd say divide them up at the front, middle and end of the vid so that people can enjoy the content and you can still promote kendostar. Other than your promotion, the content is great. I don't have much tournament experience so everyone I fought always had their kensen at the middle of their body, and it's quite hard to get them to open their defenses, I usually go for ai men or debana waza. I also realize that I'm one of the guys who have a strong kamae, thankfully nobody have ever tried to use those shinai opening techniques you mentioned here.

I thought that was a good short video on an in depth subject... how about a top down camera angle for some of those strikes?
Thought the trick to open up the opponent’s kote with his own pressure was very clever, will definitely be trying it very soon 😄!

Well the purpose of Kendo is to train high precision.
Unfortunetly that gets lost when you Start stabbing random parts of the body.
