I would agree these are just street machines done up to look like the old scramblers but, Motorcyclist magazine took two of these in an adventure rally and they held their own pretty well from the looks of it, and unless they changed a lot about these bikes from '15-now i would say for anything outside of rock climbing and deep mud bogging these would do what you needed them to do off road
This is such a great episode! It’s not always about peak horsepower. People need to remember a lot of motorcycling is about how the motorcycle makes you feel about yourself while you’re on it. That has nothing to do with peak horsepower, whereas these bikes all three of them would most certainly make you feel good in an urban environment
Agree with comments saying they should've used a Desert Sled, and I'm a big R9T fan (and the Urban G/S is even more "Scrambler" than the Scrambler!), but I'd have the Triumph, in green. National pride aside it's absolutely stunning and thankfully also a great bike.
I have the BMW and it is a fantastic bike to ride and easily the best looking Scrambler. Mine also has the optional Rev meter with the gear indicator on the second dial.
BMW: again another big heavy beast from Germany. However, this one looks gorgeous with its traditional air cooled twin. Probably the best BMW available for me, but this is NOT a scrumbler in my opinion. TRIUMPH: the best scrumbler looking among the three in everything, for me. It also performs like a scrumbler. DUCATI: it is the only one among them that can be called "scrumbler", beautiful and iconic. Conclusion: three beautiful bikes!!
And what is your opinion based on? BMW is the company with the most off road experience between these 3, and the most successful overland line of bikes (the GS). I'm pretty sure they know how to make a scrambler
The Triumph looks and sounds nice. The 1200 variant has more than enough power for the road which is where these bikes would spend most of their lives. Bit pricey though, especially to take offroad where there's a higher risk of dropping them! That BMW's tank is far too big though, for me it just looks out of place. I wouldn't mind having that Triumph in my garage.
I agree. But nevertheless I would not buy the 1200 Scrambler, unnecessarily big for the purpose. I have the Triumph Scrambler 900, the one before Street Scrambler and it does its job pefectly aside of being a beautiful retro bike.
I’d buy the Ducati because it’s the lightest, then upgrade the suspension with some Öhlins. Can’t believe that no one hauls Ducati over hot coals for making a dummy fork leg. Only one of the fork legs has a shock absorber, the other one does nothing.
its like the SUVs everyone drives around cities and suburbs, the driver/rider wants to feel like they can go off road and be independent but it could never really handle it
TR6C/BONNEVILLE TT/BSA HORNET all raced professionally back in the day and were considered very competitive. All these new bikes could easily do off roading with proper tyres.
I put Fox Shox and Shinko 804/805 tires on my 2018 Triumph Scrambler and have taken it the same places as my Tiger 800XCa here in Colorado. Hagerman Pass from Leadville and the likes. The T Scram is a perfect all a rounder for most guys who want to do some 80/20 riding. These clowns make me laugh by going down a gravel road a half mile...such "experts" are a dime a dozen...but they're getting paid and I'm not so they're the obvious "experts".
The BMW weighs the same as the Triumph with double the horse power. The Triumph weighs 203+12 litr petrol=215. The BMW weighs 220 incl 17 petrol, 203-17=203.
I have always like it this channel, but is so embarrassing seeing both hosts run away from a straight easy gravel road, I don’t now if I look at them the same after this😅 😂
R9T-posh mans bike Ducati scrambler-young mans bike or an old mans give me back some youth bike Triumph-fits the brief perfectly as a scrambler i think..great all rounder
blah 90° blah on off blah V L blah 60° 45° blah. Great comparison test, 3 fantastic fun bikes, sunshine and good roads. What more could we want. Oh, a good laugh too. Thanks.
Just going to jump into the "V-twin" argument. A "V" has two equal arms and a less than 90 degree angle. An "L" has one long and one short arm and a 90 degree angle. In brief, the Ducati engine is no more an L than it is a V.
V-twins are 45 degree engine hence the naming. L-twins are 90 degree engine hence the naming. It is the most basic of geometry vs alphabet. There is nothing anal about it, a 90 degree twin even tilted forward is not a 45 degree twin. Therefore L-twin and V-twin are indeed two completely different configurations and as such deserves to be differentiated. Likewise a boxer engine also called flat twin is a 180 degree engine. It is not rocket science. And then there is the parallel twin like the ones find in certain Triumph models. The reason bike testers should be able to make the difference is that surely the manufacturers have chosen the said configuration for a reason that dubious or not should be translated onto the road whether it is the behaviour of the bike itself, its overall design, its sound, vibrations, weight distribution or whatever. One would expect a proper bike tester to know the difference and explain what could eventually make one configuration better than the other and under what circumstances, terrain or driving style. It is like knowing the difference between 2 or 4 strokes, mono, twin, tri and four cylinders. This is the sort of criteria (other than look) that would definitely drive my decision to buy a bike or not as long as it is properly explained.
Talking shite. The Ducati is a 90 degree v twin. The term L twin has always been a poor choice to describe the configuration as an L has two different length arms, implying two different length stroke on front and rear cylinder ... Yes? V twin much better. V twin come in lots of different included angles motoguzzi made their v8 with 120 degrees. Harley's use 45. Moroni did theirs with 47.5 . Honda built one with with 60 . Plastic maggot I think had 55. The reviewer is using the correct descriptive term rather a marketing term. If you want to be a complete pedant you should say it's L twin with the L tilted at 15 degrees!
At the end of the day if you want to off road you would not buy any of these three, rather you would go for a proper off road motorbike. These are as the reviewer say, just roadsters with a scrambler look. With this in mind, there is no rival for bmw r9t scrambler, the most beautiful and most agile, and mind you by some distance, among the three.
In your first review ducati was climbing sand dunes, now you are too scared to ride it on some smooth gravel road. What gives? Obviously it's not a dirt bike but that road is a piece of cake even for a novice.
that's was exactly what i was thinking, except looking at the BMW, it looks too heavy and uncomfortable. but for triumph and ducati its really a piece of cake plus both have good ergonomics to stand up on the pegs.
I was weaned on Ducati 250, 350 & 450 scramblers. 1967-1975. 250 is the best. And these Mammoths really aren't scramblers. Just like my American Eagle 350 (2 cyl) Scrambler. Eagle?! Dan Gurney bought Kawasaki and Laverda bikes and put American Eagle on them. You never heard that did you?
Icon, sixty2 and classic target the "scrambler" class. The sled is a really awesome bike, but it feels 100% like a dual sport on road. the classic actually feels much nicer on road. not trashing the sled at all.
I'd probably have the Ducati if I thought it was going to be reliable as it's easily the lightest. Good review until you start acting like children at 6:40, but it recovers inside 20 seconds, so 'thumbs up'. The chunky lad's a decent rider.
Just Ducati having a bit of a w..k. An L twin would have to have one long stroke cylinder and one short stroke cylinder to qualify. If both cylinders have the same stroke, then it's a V twin, get over it Ducatisti.
Amen......someone said it finally.these are street bike.if you want to go off road go buy an enduro...or a motocross not even on/off.....gs's multisrada's aren't meant to go off road.....pfff
excuse me, but if you're the kinda guy that needs to see on the panel which gear he is in when goes off the road - you'd better stay ON the road :))) or get a real dirt bike
And on the road they stayed. Great review of three bikes called scramblers where two riders couldn't actually ride off road. NICE ONE Bike Show!!! You were awesome! ... NOT!
sorry but the BMW will go off road well, but trail bike style, but the BMW clubs in Australia went through the interior on the /5 very well. Road bikes with certain overland and off road capabilities. Still do it today. Dukes are indeed V twins. Fuck Ducati fans
The Ducati is bloody 'orrible. Suspension is way too firm and the seat has a metal ridge right where most people sit. I really wanted to like it...but I hated it instead. I'd have the Trumpet too.
There is no way this is an fair review, i find you are always biased toward Triumph in your reviews, it is not a good plan we can see through it🤷🏻♂️ i happen to love the Triumph scrambler but just be honest about its shortcomings, it suits an older larger rider that doesnt want to go fast, just say so, no need to make excuses, that is the market for it, it is also easy to modify, but it is overpriced for what it is, the R9 has very little off road capability, is more of a cafe racer and is very expensive, the Ducati has several varients is by far the quickest and probably the best value for money if you want to actually go off road, but it lacks style, so buy the Triumph if you fit the user group, there review done for you
thing is there is enough u-tube videos of the triumph going way off road / dirt roads .. so they can be used ... as such .. true dirt bike no but they can get you to the back roads where the others need a truck to haul or hrs with the 250 droning away
You can find videos of big Harleys adventure riding as well. Either way, you better be a very skilled and muscular rider to handle any big bike off road. I went from a DRZ400S to a KLR650 to a KLX250S.
lol that bmw... yeah with the low profile and teh engine covers all open what could go wrong. Damn yuppies ruind everything (or hipsters'). These "scramblers" are total crap. The off road ability of those is just as much as any other bike not meant for that, I´d feel so pretencious riding one. Bikes are not for everyone, they never were, they never will they need to stop pandering to the casuals, like the HD street rod, its stupid, they are just throwing money out the window on RD instead of making something actually good (like a less cheap looking street 750 would had been better)

Some reviewers have taken the triumph and the Ducati off rode quite successfully.
Including this very channel, a motocrossrider took the Ducati for a rip in sand dunes and really tore it up.
Agree with comments saying they should've used a Desert Sled, and I'm a big R9T fan (and the Urban G/S is even more "Scrambler" than the Scrambler!), but I'd have the Triumph, in green. National pride aside it's absolutely stunning and thankfully also a great bike.
I agree Desert Sled is more “Scrambler”, but for this comparison, Ducati Scrambler is perfect.
I have the BMW and it is a fantastic bike to ride and easily the best looking Scrambler. Mine also has the optional Rev meter with the gear indicator on the second dial.

The triumph is a 0 degree v-twin and the bmw is a 180 degree v-twin
“Off road” = dirt road? 🤔
"Off-road" never applies in most reviews. It's OFF-PAVEMENT.
lol true
The Triumph looks and sounds nice. The 1200 variant has more than enough power for the road which is where these bikes would spend most of their lives. Agreed. I'm glad someone else noticed the enormous tank.
I’d buy the Ducati because it’s the lightest, then upgrade the suspension with some Öhlins.
Can’t believe that no one hauls Ducati over hot coals for making a dummy fork leg. Only one of the fork legs has a shock absorber, the other one does nothing.
DannyBomBom many bikes and offroad bikes have this setup, one leg will have the spring and the other the damping valves in it.
A motorcycles capabilities have nothing to do with HP.
its like the SUVs everyone drives around cities and suburbs, the driver/rider wants to feel like they can go off road and be independent but it could never really handle it
best comment for scrablers......i'll used it......
Great video. I love the retro trend that is currently popular, even if it is a bit hipster-ish.
TR6C/BONNEVILLE TT/BSA HORNET all raced professionally back in the day and were considered very competitive. All these new bikes could easily do off roading with proper tyres.

Fajni Jesteście. Pozdrowienia z Polski !!!
That BMW
I'll take the Triumph.
I have always like it this channel, but is so embarrassing seeing both hosts run away from a straight easy gravel road, I don’t now if I look at them the same after this😅 😂
racer was the one that convinced to buy an r9...no regrets...love riding it ...but only on the track or highway...it is painful in the city
Why painful and which city
Always enjoy watching your reviews keep em coming 👍👌
A question many seem to have asked before me....why didnt you bring the Desert Sled along for this play off?!
For long distance? Top speed? Ducati has a 6th gear.
Man, they are too funny :))) nice review.
R9T-posh mans bike
Ducati scrambler-young mans bike or an old mans give me back some youth bike
Triumph-fits the brief perfectly as a scrambler i think..great all rounder

These guys are having trouble on a gravel road haha
Don't think is the bike more of the ability of riders to go on dirt

A "V" is a 45 degree "L" btw
YOU KNOW !!!!!THERE IS ALSO A TRIUMPH SCRAMBLER 1200 CC ----
There wasn't at the time of filming.
Frank Zappa reviews motorcycles now, cool!
Lmao
Lol at people mentioned in the vid who thought an L twin wasn't a v-twin. Heck.
Juntaron las 3 motos que más me gustan
Why didn't you bring Desert Sled to compare with others ?
That rocked 🤘
Sadly, no more Bultaco Matador.
your videos are always fine. really enjoy the
Nice one guys !! Best regards

Is that James corden? Damn! he can ride! Lol
"3 words for you, f, eight hundred, gs"
I’d rather have one of these gorgeous scramblers and a proper dual sport (husky 701 or KTM 500) instead of an ADV.
@@greynearing4822 yeah fair enough
Richard Hammond meets Frank Zappa!
Why didnt you pick the Desert Sled? It's by far the most complete Scrambler and does well offroad.
The desert sled isn't a scrambler. Its a purpose-built dual purpose. A scrambler Is an on-road bike with some off road modifications and styling.
Says who? Of course its a Scrambler. It is an on road bike. I own one myself and its perfect on street.
Says Ducati. Its billed as a dual-purpose and the owners manual says it is designed for light off-road use.
Icon, sixty2 and classic target the "scrambler" class.
The sled is a really awesome bike, but it feels 100% like a dual sport on road. the classic actually feels much nicer on road. not trashing the sled at all.
According to Ducati the Desert Sled is a "new member of the Ducati family". AND who says a Dual sport cant be a Scrambler?
Awesome channels
I'd probably have the Ducati if I thought it was going to be reliable as it's easily the lightest.
Good review until you start acting like children at 6:40, but it recovers inside 20 seconds, so 'thumbs up'.

1200cc VS 900cc VS 803cc? lol
LoL, I'm not a good enough rider to appreciate the differences in the twin engines. Twin is Twin for me.
Amen......someone said it finally.these are street bike.if you want to go off road go buy an enduro...or a motocross not even on/off.....gs's multisrada's aren't meant to go off road.....pfff
u call that off road?
Not meant for off road? You’ve obviously never seen Jamie Robinson thrash the Duc off road...
No one really will ride the bike to scramble.
excuse me, but if you're the kinda guy that needs to see on the panel which gear he is in when goes off the road - you'd better stay ON the road :))) or get a real dirt bike
And on the road they stayed. Great review of three bikes called scramblers where two riders couldn't actually ride off road. NICE ONE Bike Show!!! You were awesome! ... NOT!
Triumphhh
Where is the Yamaha
Nice review, interesting points, next time I suggest to lean out the show and make it closer to 8 minutes🙌🏼
The Duck is not a V the Duck is an L. Harley Davidson owns the V with the VStrom however the L is all DUCK
sweet
BMW is a 180 gr V-twin
haha, not much of a v shape!
Maarten, you said it right!
Also known as boxer
Correction, the BMW is a flat v otherwise known as the in line hyphen .
what abou RE
sorry but the BMW will go off road well, but trail bike style, but the BMW clubs in Australia went through the interior on the /5 very well. Road bikes with certain overland and off road capabilities. Still do it today. Dukes are indeed V twins. Fuck Ducati fans

Most people {except girls} would get bored with 55hp fast.
Triumph looks best green, red is ugly
jan mac and black

That BMW is so fucking ugly.
Why does BMW makes good looking cars and then makes bikes that are completely atrocious looking.
👍❤🇸🇾🍸
Funny you never see Afro Africans on your videos. Not in the pub, not in the bike shops, not even as pedestrians.
Thank god
HahA great observation, they on the other side of town.....welcome to Africa!!!
Ducati is L twin not V twin...Ducati is smarter than you
Fuck, that BMW is ugly.
Did they ever made a bike that isn't beyond ugly?
Wrong Ducati
lol that bmw... yeah with the low profile and teh engine covers all open what could go wrong. Damn yuppies ruind everything (or hipsters'). These "scramblers" are total crap.
