I still remember reading in the magazine 'Gleanings in Bee Culture' about the Varroa mites being introduced into Florida in 1987. I was skeptical that they'd affect my apiary located on rolling farmlands in Missouri. The "golden age" of beekeeping ended for me in the early spring of 1993 when I discovered that about half of my hives hadn't survived the winter. That was a rude awakening for sure! Thankfully, about a decade ago I tracked down some U.S.D.A. V.S.H. Italian queens. My hives have been treatment free ever since!
And this is the first year I've had all my hives insulated, without top ventilation; as of yesterday I've not lost a single hive so far this winter.
These TH-cam demonstrations/tutorials have been a real blessing for beekeepers; I'm amazed at how much my apiary management practices have changed over the last few years due to information gleaned from them.

😏Looks like everyone got one of those for Christmas.😂That is the model that I prefer, it has the information display and controls. Thanks for sharing, Blessed Days...

😂not me, those portable battery vaporisers cost $950 in new Zealand ( import duty and whatnot) much cheaper in north America like a lot of beekeeping equipment 😂

I actually got my vap from Lorobbees at the convention a couple years ago when I met you all. I still love it ! On the battery 5 AH is Amp hours. The more amp hours the longer the battery will last. I use screened bottom boards year round now. I have a lot better luck with them handling varroa and SHB. To treat you just put the insert in like I do in Winter.

Mites came over way back in the 1900s. 😆

Varroa mites started to become widespread in the US around 1987, due to the catastrophic failure of the beekeeping industry to keep them out of the country, and caused many honey bee businesses to go out of business since early on there were few, if any, ways to treat for them. Prior to 1987 is considered the 'Golden Age of Beekeeping'. The scary thing about beekeeping is there are even worse mites out there than Varroa Mites. There is a mite out there called a Tropilaelaps mite, which is many times worse than a Varroa Mites, from what I read.

I don't like oxalic acid vaporizer wands, most you cannot control the temperature and if you overheat OA, it turns to formic acid and carbon monoxide, you will get that dazed out zombie bee hive for a bit after treatment with overheated OA. I have also had over heated OA kill off uncapped larva. Also the wands tend to not last long and stop working after a heavy season of use, and lugging a battery around isn't ideal, no thank you. The newer version of the cordless InstantVap 18v is the way to go, and you can control the temps on it so you don't over heat your OA. Also, you should use 5.0ah battery minimum on your InstantVap so it doesn't die quickly during the heating process. Just one mans opinion based on experience.
Note: I have found 2grams per deep seems to work best from my experience on mites, though I don't know the rules or regulations on that. 🤔🤷‍♂

Nice Sweater! I agree those instavap’s are the way to go. Put a big FlexVolt 12ah on there and bam money 😂😂

Hi Natalee. Hope the holidays are treating "super". Just finished treating my hives today, got up to 60 and the clusters broke. The compact one is incredible. If you're thinking about buying the pro-vap... Save up and get the insta-vap. I wear latex gloves, just in case I would touch my eyes after sticking my hand in the bag. Looking forward to seeing you again at EXPO! Already over spent my budget!

Hello you talking about the screen bottom boards hives . I run all screen bottom boards Al love them . When I am treating with OA I will take a wood wedge an put underneath the IPM BOARD to push up on it so the OA doesn’t leak out as bad an have had good results with that but I have some kind of leaks anyway say from the boxes , tops etc so it is not really a problem. Thanks

There's a bee in my boot.... that's awesome. I'm from the 1900's so you may not be familiar with toy story since it came out when I was in middles school.... way back in the 1900's. Woody in that movie would say there is a snake in my boot. You saying there is a bee in my boot made me think of that. I'm pretty sure that needs to go on a beekeeping with Natalee shirt. 😂

5 amp hour. In theory (with some inefficiency), will provide 1 amp for 5 hours.... Or 2.5 amps for 2.5 hours..... Or 5 amps for 1 hour.... Obviously the higher the amp hour number, the longer it will last for your particular application. More than you wanted to know.

Hi Natalee and Natalee's mum from southern New Zealand 👋😃 you guys get much better deals on portable battery vaporisers in the united states, those vaporisers cost $950 NZD ( USD$540) so im still using the old school car battery powered wands 😂 beekeeping supplies are really stupidly expensive here in central Otago southern New Zealand, even those wands are $150 here 😬 and its a total faf around, dragging car batterys and all the attendant nonsense around apairys at night😂 i treat at night after sunset in bee flying weather with OA vapour but even with all the rigmarole of dragging stuff around my apairys, im convinced its worth it, except when I accidentally forget to pack my red light headtorch then it gets interesting 😂😅 awesome video 👍👋

Love your videos Natalie but do your research on your products before you start your video so you know your products and how they work like the wand and Rob is a distributor not the maker. Your channel will be a much better resource if you do.
