That hoar frost is so pretty on the trees. I didn't know the vent fans on the bins would built up frost like that. That's crazy. Your bees look good so far and they should do better without the old warmups that you usually had. Hope you had a good Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all the people that contribute active & passive to the Canadian beekeeper blog, who give us am insite into the secret world of the Bee... Also to Steppler farms for a wander through the operation, big fields, big crops, big machinary, big working days, big storage, big cattle... Many thanks for feeding us...From the UK...
One of rhe best christmas crack videos youve had in years. looking very nice. hope the rest of the shed is 75% that good. If they are you ought to be happy come soring.
Something you might like, I found a pollution sensor on Temu that among many things it senses that I don't know about it reads CO2 ppm. Its between 20 and 25 $ a unit. Merry Christmas and thanks for all the great content
Merry Christmas Ian & family. It's heart-warming to see your children working the bees during the year, and we know your wife is integral to the project too. Thank you for sharing your videos through the year, much appreciated!
Thanks for a great year of vlog Ian. I Love how you alway negotiate with the bees “Ok, Ok! Two more!? Then 6 or 8 😂😂 Quite an honour to have a Christmas song wrote about your operation. 🤙🏼 Merry Christmas to you, your family & Crew!! Here’s to a great 2025! 🎉🎉
It would prevent-reduce snow build up but considering the Hoar Frost on the trees (and they have minimum air flow) - it's just a hazard of the big aeration fans - one spot of frost leads to a continuous build up.
I wonder if you have enough video over the last few years to compare losses to pre-refrigeration Ian. Also, I'm curious if you've ever tried a wash on the dead fall to check for mites? It seems overall your colonies & nucleus boxes are in extremely good health. I hope the refrigeration doesn't pull too much humidity out of the environment. With as much air exchange, getting accurate heat index readings might be more important than mean temperature when it comes to regulating the girls consumption of available stores.
You can always tell how cold it is by how the snow squeaks as you walk on it!

Nothing better than watching you crack lids and seeing good results.

Cool video, I wonder if you could put a shroud/baffle over those Brock fans to prevent that snow/ice buildup?

Why are you using a white light? I thought you had learned to use a red light to avoid aggravating them.
The battery is low, and the bees are not that stir crazy yet so not as much an issue
