  • This video shows you how to install a vernier handle on a Swagelok S Series metering valve. These metering valves are used in the aquarium hobby for CO2 injection for aquatic plants. They provide consistent and precise gas flow, which is crucial for aquarium fish survival.

Thanks for this, I called and they said they have no rebuild instructions (not even a torque!), and I cleaned the valve and had to reassemble the whole thing. This video made it more obvious what I was doing wrong reassembling it. I had tightened down the brass piece until I felt resistance, but I did not realize the brass piece itself just bottomed out, thought the needle did. Loosened the brass piece, brought it to the top, tightened it down until I felt a little resistance (so little resistance; that needle is soooooo thin), and then completed the rest of the rebuild per your video.

You're welcome. Glad I was able to help you out. As stated in the video, I tighten it slowly until I feel a little resistance, and then I back up very slightly, and then I tighten the screw.

    Nice regs, dude!
I`m searching what to get to build one. I`m not sure yet on the fittings and the correct metering valves.

Wilson Miranda, make sure you get the S (small) series, if you’re using it for the same purpose I mentioned in the video. The plantedtank.net has a list of metering valves that others have tested. One affordable solution that you might want to consider is the Fabco NV-55-18. You’ll only need stainless steel if you’re using this for calcium reactors for saltwater aquariums.

Hey there. Do you mind listing the part numbers for the parts after the solenoid? Thanks!

Hi Daniel, depending on whether you have a VCR, NPT, tube or whatever connections are out there, you'll need a stem/nipple (gaskets, if using VCR face seal fittings), solenoid (and manifold if needed), elbow (sometimes a reducing elbow, depending on your parts. Elbows aren't necessary, but do make it look like a weapon of mass destruction), power adapter matched to electronic requirements of the solenoid, another elbow, maybe a port connector and ferrules if your using tube fittings, metering valve, another stem (or a tube adapter if using tube fittings), and a check valve (or a bubble counter with an integrated check valve).
