    Mine had gotten rained on after not being able to find it after a couple months during monsoon season in AZ. Took the battery apart and noticed some corrosion and rust on the internal battery tabs and used my Milwaukee 12v dremel with brass rotating brush to clean them all off and voila good as new.

    It uses a mems gyroscope and accelerometer chip. The gyroscope can detect angular momentum while the accelerometer detects orientation. It uses the same tech that keeps drones in the air. It seems like black magic, but it's really just horrendous math being done in an 8 bit microcontroller at high speed.

    We can expect it's the same "gyro" mechanism used in smart phones, which detect rotation in 3 planes, as you speculated. But, these devices also detect _orientation_ in 3 planes (a 6-axis sensor). If I'm watching you correctly, it seems to detect the orientation at the time you depress the button, and then knows which planes on which to detect rotation, and thus knows when you rotate around the axis of the drive.

    • @TesserId
      @TesserId ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And, consider that you can install smartphone apps that can give you readings on a 6-axis sensor, including ones that you can use as a carpenter's level. (Some smartphones also have accelerometers, but I don't know if they can do 6 axes or only three. And, I don't this applies here if accelerometers are separate from the "gyro" feature of a 6-axis sensor, but I don't really know that, so don't quote me on it. Damn, gonna have to look up how these sensors actually work. I just know they work on multiple axes.)

    Love that you have a degree in physics and are impressed! I am a 75 year old woman who has been so frustrated at not being able to do things I used to (Torn rotator cuff, arthritis in hands, etc) that I am hoping this would at least help with screwing things!!! What do you think? Even holding a quart of water for more than a minute or two is a problem. I have to take my jars out and have the mailman open them for me. A normal can opener is painful and slow. I can't screw or unscrew anything:) How much does it weigh?
    Can it drill also? Will it do one of those right angle thingies? What is the link for the charger?
    ** I just went to the amazon link for the screwdriver and bit set, which is the only way you linked the screwdriver, and it is not available. Please post a link for the screwdriver only so we know which one. Thanks!

You need a presscription for it, but it works immediately and removes the pain for a little while. I use it on my hands before practicing guitar. Good luck.Your not related to the Shavers from Indiana, or Wisconsin by any chance are you ?

      I have a degree in physics as well, and it's some tricky math. The main thing is that it's a savior for the hands and wrist. I'm a bit older and my hands aren't what they were. I've got carpal tunnel syndrome and have lost a lot of strength. The cost of around $100 is well worth the gyroscopic feature. I can't believe it's not more popular. I give it a 10/10 for ergonomics and power and ingenuity!

  • @michaelwilkes0
    @michaelwilkes0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    it works because it is a gyro chip, not an accelerometer chip. when you turn your phone sideways and the screen rotates, thats an accelerometer, It knows which way is down. A gyro chip doesnt know which way is down, but in this application it doesnt need to. In fact, the gyro doesnt even know how much you have rotated it. Then how does it work? Well, the gyro senses how quickly the screwdriver is rotated, and the little processor chip performs an integration calculation to convert from rotational speed, to absolute rotational distance. I dont know the exact algorithm they are using. Furthermore, I would bet they have a combo gyro and accelerometer sensor in one chip because those are commonly used in cell phones so they are dirt cheap and they just ignore the accelerometer.
    The gyro chip itself is amazing. its a micro electro mechanical system (MEMS for short). inside is a tiny vibrating piece of sillicon attached at the base to a deflection sensor. As the screwdriver is rotated, that tiny vibrating piece is bent to the left or right because it is resisting the changing angle, kind of like that science experiment where you hold a spinning bicycle tire while sitting in a desk chair and as you tilt the bicycle wheel, you start to spin in the chair.

    Did you know you can unlock and twist the grip to make it a ‘pistol’ grip?

    Can you use it with drill bits?

    • @diytoolreviews8278
      @diytoolreviews8278  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Unless you can find bits that have the same quick release end. I’ve never seen drill bits like that.

      Its a screwdriver not a drill.... but they do make drill bits that will fit in it.... but like i said its a screwdriver....

    BTW… you need a tripod.

    Hello Physics guy the gyroscope inside is a MEMS (Micro-ElectroMecanical Sensor) accelerometer

    It's not black magic, they are just using 2 gyroscopes 😅 Your phone is using multiple gyroscopes too

    Well, your first mistake was getting a degree from the University of California. Seriously though, that was a pretty good review. Keep it up.

      Yeah I think people took the fact I was impressed by the gyro accuracy to mean I didn't understand how gyros work. lol. All good though. I'm still continually impressed by the accuracy and sensitivity of this thing.

    :D Except that it is not intuitive. It should spin in the direction that you turn.

      Is the model number of the ones you own exactly the same as this one? DCF682? I know DeWalt makes several different models including one that bends.

    • @commanderdata-xy3wt
      @commanderdata-xy3wt ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a screwdriver not a drill so what do you need a chuck for? And you can use It for light drilling no problem with quarter inch hex drill bits that fit into the thing, good for like pilot holes or holes for small anchors etc. Don't knock it till you try the thing is amazing.
