Great video, thank you. Thanks for the part numbers, speaking clearly and very little camera shake. We are retiring our e250's and moving up to 2017~ transit 250 's. After research, seems like we'll be busy doing predictable repairs. Thanks again.
I own a Transit 350 with the turbo 3.5 which I use for expedited shipping. I run about 10,000 miles per month and have found your videos invaluable! Currently trying to find a coolant leak and came across your channel. Blessings to you, and thank you so much for making awesomely helpful content!!
Very Informative! Thanks for the line tips. I will definitely check mine. My mechanic changed some clamps and I believe a hose. It started to overheat when I was waiting in a drive thru line. When I called him he said so it was ok for 2 weeks though. Hence I no longer bring my vehicles there.
Great video. My bottle was spraying through a couple of pinholes, so it was clear it was leaking. Your instructions were clear and easy to follow. Thanks for saving me so much headache and/or money. I followed your advice and purchased the coolant line as well. Oddly enough, I couldn't find it anywhere for less than the OEM version from Ford (but the reservoir bottle after-market version was a real cost-saver). When I tried to take out the old line, I couldn't get it unfastened at the passenger side, but I was in a rush. I'll get in there soon with better tools and get it changed. Thanks again for your great video.
Thank you for the video and the part # just replaced the 2nd bottle on a 2017 I drive with 400k miles and now the vent tube leaks from around the o-ring had my boss order me a new one with the # you gave us since the line is hard thanks again 👍
MedTec67 I found a Dorman brand for the recovery tank and I guess Dorman has thought it through as they put metal inserts "in" both nipples. I was going to see if I could jimmy-rig it like that with the original Ford part, but it looks like Dorman did it already! ---> Dorman Pressurized Coolant Reservoir: Clear, Plastic, Original Equipment Replacement I assume this will mitigate erosion on the nipples as the metal funnels the hot liquid into the tank and never touching the plastic nipples. However, my only concern is heat. I believe the original issue is a combination of heat and chemical breakdown. With this design it would only be heat and I believe the polymer they use will withstand it. Either way it's a step in the right direction.
Great video, just wondering if you have had any which the bottom hose has blown off and what might have caused it. total loss of power and oil all over the the left side of the engine bay. any help would be much appreciated
Geez, a third hose. Wished I had seen this earlier. I ordered the upper hose instead of the plastic one. FWIW, apparently a piece of 5/16" line and a couple of small hose clamps work well. At least until a replacement can be found (not sure why mine was repaired and left that way -- initial inspections discovery after buying it). Thanks!
FYI the 2015 Transit has the square “box pinch” connector on BOTH sides of the small overflow tube. The replacement part that Ford gives now has a “wing pinch” on the tank side, they redesigned the nipple. You MUST get the tank (for me was $60) AND the overflow tube ($85!).
Would you be able to provide the part number for both? I’m stuck in Mississippi trying to get this thing done. Thought I was done after changing the upper radiator hose, but noooo they have to CONTINUOUSLY make it a PITA
Dayum the contector you need to squeeze I believe is called (left upper radiator hose).in my case I had to remove it and the hose goes behind the engine. It was annoying to remove it since there was not enough room.
I lose coolant at extremely low rate but but always a slight whiff of coolant. Is there a dye to help locate coolant leaks? Will theses parts work on a 2017 Transit Ecoboost? Do you have video on coolant change/flush? Thanks for the great video
Hi, thanks for the video 👍 I’ve had from new my 2019 Transit Custom 2.0 diesel here in the UK. It has been using about 1.5 litres of coolant a month and steadily getting worse. I’ve been really concerned that it may be something major, but after seeing you video I’m hope this is all that’s wrong fingers crossed 🤞.
This video helped a lot , but could you follow up with instructions on replacing the vent hose. I understand the procedure on the tank end but am unsure about the radiator end.
The antifreeze is in the area below the reservoir to indicate a leak from the reservoir. And the reservoir is completely empty. However, in feeling around the tank and the hoses, I cannot feel any evidence of leaks. Doesn't help that it's completely empty. All other hoses and radiator are dry. Any advice?
On mine, the coolant accumulates on the lip where the two halves of the ball meet, but not enough to spill over and drip to the ground. It seems like it’s coming from the pressure hole in the back. But could it be coming out of the cap? Thanks for making these videos.
Have any of you tried to replace the plastic heater line with a rubber heater hose instead? I am about to try that out with my Transit because the freaking line broke in my hand as soon as I pulled it out and I can't wait another week to save money online by ordering the part instead of buying local (4x the price). 3/16 heater hose seems to be a tight fit though I will take some heat and lube to it in order to avoid using clamps on both the radiator end and the reservoir weird butterfly plastic connector. If anyone tried this out and it worked for a long time please let me know. I'm not sure the flexible rubber hose will remain stretched and in place so I will use some cable ties and hold the new rubber hose against the plastic through the radiator and then to the thicker coolant hose near the reservoir.
the total capacity is 3.5 to 4 gallons contingent if you have rear heat or not. now you will never get it all out i rarely get more than 1.5 gallons when just draining them from the radiator.
2015, can’t find it, pressure test was fine. It doesn’t leak all the time. Is anyone else having intermittent draining, I mean it’s a substantial amount that I find on my driveway only sometimes. Side note, my heater doesn’t work very good, is there a blockage and causing it to blow back, but why so much coolant that gets lost only sometimes.
Cool down happens every cycle. No matter how efficient the cooling system is a little boiling happens and the radiator cap vents the excess pressure when the system cools down there is less gas than there was before which results in net vacuum
explain to me this. 8mm ratchet, yet its a USA made Ford? Can we please all just change to the metric system one step at a time. I hate having two of everything.

The one im looking is at is leaking from the rear of the head? Any ideas anyone?

Very well explained
Thanks again
Will get that done tomorrow!

you bet
Great video and great instruction.
Thank you
Thank you
Maybe we could fix the old container with
epoxy or fibreglass kit.
Thanks for the video , very helpful.
Nice tip about the hose alignment. Any idea of length of life on those recovery tanks?
Seems like 75k they start to leak this is this trucks second tank and it has 140k

Update?

Sure will do thank you sir
Does the cap ever go I see coolant where the tank is halved together doesn't seem to leak when the coolant is below full

Wished I had watched your video before trying to replace my coolant bottle. I broke that thingy you mentioned. Oops!
ya it happens

They crack all over, it really is a horrible plastic. I had one completely blow apart at that seam line you are talking about.
Can you do a video on how to change the coolant on a transit 3.7?
Will do thanks for the suggestion
Could you please tell me the coolant reservoir adapter size that thread on that reservoir. I can't seem to find it anywhere
FYI The bendy tubing is $85 at my dealer and the tank is $60 😬
My transit is leakingggggg. And this video was awesome. But it’s definitely not the bottle 😩
i've got more videos on leaks transits are known for a few
Hi guys. Can any of you tell me. When you let the transit cool down. Does your cap still have pressure
Have any of you tried to replace the plastic heater line with a rubber heater hose instead? im getting a coolant leak drip on the ground near the oil drain plug area
Thank you
How can I contact you privately with some automotive related questions?
My issue is there's oil in the coolant but how!!
Same part number for a 2026 Transit 350 XLT?
yes
Hi I'm Luciano, the upper hose on the reservoir what is the purpose?
It allows air to escape the engine to keep bubbles from blocking the flow of coolant in the engine
It also provides a small amount of bypass flow from the pump when the thermostat is closed
Thanks so much for that
Why doesn't Ford fix this from the gate? Like some other xonposite that won't fail every three years
What can cause the cooling system to go into a vacuum?
Cool down happens every cycle. No matter how efficient the cooling system is a little boiling happens and the radiator cap vents the excess pressure when the system cools down there is less gas than there was before which results in net vacuum
Do yu have to get this part from ford?
As far as I know there are not aftermarket tanks available yet.
