Just the resume from his racing days is impressive enough but to hang onto all the pieces from it along the way just blows my mind. And that memory of his, geez. Who recalls details like that! Amazing. Thank you Don.
Big Daddy, you have been my favorite racer and hero since the slingshot dragsters smoking thr tires the length of the track. Without you, I don't believe drag racing would be where it is now. Watched you and Shirley race many times. Praying for continued good health and Happy Belated Birthday Ɓig Daddy Don Garlets!!
What an inspiration. Don 90 years old still driving race cars. Don looks damn good for 90, couldn't we all wish to be in that good of shape and still doing what we love to do at 90. Damn it, I wish to be in that shape at 90. Please God grant me this wish
Yes indeed. I hope he last us few more years. I have plenty of Garlits videos. Be sure to subscribe if you haven’t so you do not miss any. Thanks for watching. Viva la Máquina!
About an hour from Disney, all highways! Hope you can make the trip soon. This area is probably the biggest classic car hub in the East coast. Thanks for watching!
Wow what an amazing time walking through drag racing history with the. G.O.A.T. as your tour guide. Don was truly an inspiration for many and continues his legacy. At his advanced age is looks physically fit and oh what a sharp mind he has. I am so glad i took time out of my day the watch this. Thanks for the memories!
Awesome video interview with Big Daddy Don, He was my inspiration for drag racing in my younger days. I raced a 1969 Z/28 302 W/cross ram manifold. Weekend drag racing payed my car payments, The old Z was also my daily driver. I sure do miss the old girl. Thanks for the great interview, at 91 he is still sharp as a whistle!
VERY kewl ! I'm sure that car REALLY SCREAMED ! I also had an original matching numbers 69 Z28 Camaro with a single 4 barrel and I had a guy that was my friends Dad named Del Blades was one of the fastest super stock racers in the country did a couple minor modifications on mine and I made SOOOO much money it was ridiculous !
Met him at one of the first races at the Texas Motorplex back in the 80’s…. hope to get to meet him on my next trip to FL. Will stop by the museum every trip I can. He is a living Legend and historical figure in Motorsports.
He still involved with the museum. He does not live there anymore, but he frequents the museum. His nephew is running it, but he still takes the big decisions. There is a slim chance that you might see him, probably will hear his thunderous voice first. Thanks for watching.
✌A remarkable career and what an enduring legacy, he's an inspiration and a great influencer to a lot of drag racers and automotive enthusiasts around the world for sure. Cheers to you Don Garlits!
Any time spent with Don Garlits is priceless!! He is a true innovator and an american racing legend!!! We need to have a movie ( or several) made about his colorful life!!!
Yes. Prudhomme and Shirley Muldowney got their movies done. There was a movie that was going to be done, and then it was not, according to his own words. I believe is a missed opportunity.
I’m part way through watching, wish I could have met him in 2018 when I went to the museum, it was surreal to be there as I had watched Close Calls and the museum videos a million times, probably won’t make it again for a while as I live in Australia. Thanks for sharing the video.
Very good thanks. In the mid 80's he and I almost brought out a Big Daddy Don Garlits Top Fuel Drag Racing board game...after the handshke it all fell apart, too bad. Still have the hand drawn proto type....it would of been fantastic.
Thank you so much for the video. Don is one of my heroes. I grew up in a drag racing household and I saw him for the first time and got introduced to Nitro at the races in Fremont California at the age of 6 😂 Have great day 😊
Thanks for your contribution and welcome to our community. I believe that is very important to document his live and take advantage to the fact that he still around. Younger generations need to know about him, his working ethic, the way he handled his finances and family. On top of giving us decades of racing entertainment, the way he lived, is something to be remembered. We have plenty of Garlits videos for your entertainment, thanks for watching.
I saw him race in a little strip in Wall Texas, it must have been in '68 or 9. He had a car with fuel injection stacks, not blown. I was a very young photographer back then and was in the "pits" behind the little "Rail." The car was running straight pipes and I saw the mechanic squirt something in the injectors and the engine sputters and cranked. The unturned fluid sprayed me in the eyes. Oh man it burned. I ran to the concession stand and got two big cups of ice and turned both of them up against my eyes hoping the ice would extinguish the burning. It did and I learned a lesson that day. The crew never saw nor knew what happened. I also got covered with bits of melting and sheared tire rubber from photographing the burn-outs. What a day! What a day! Living history!
If that incident happened today, Garlits could have been sued! But, because back in the day "If you aren't smart, you have to be tuff" was the rule, it ended up a great day! Was that the San Angelo Dragway? Thanks for watching.
Yes indeed. I met him for the first time 30 years ago, and have not changed much. He will make it to 100! thanks for your comment. everybit helps our small but growing channel.
I got to see Don set the 1/8 miles record at Balboa raceway Eugene way back in the 60's . My friends dad had built the pistons for Don car for that race. We got into the pits free because of that. I didn't get to meet him but got to watch him work on his car.
I be found this you tube channel !!!! It's god scent I'm watching my lost hero ? I got one of the first news papers he was burning those tires up while winning the race .
Thanks for watching. We will keep documenting Big Daddy as soon as he still around. I was able to talk to him this past Saturday at the "Mopars with Big Daddy" I did not include my conversation in the video, but check it out, you will love it! Please share, like and keep the comments flowing. Thanks
The man is a walking history of drag racing book. Met him in Rockingham back in the 80s . But as much as he has done and still doing he puts the Lord first.thats what I admire most of all
don please tell me about Butch hicks (Cecel "Butch" Hicks) you stored your car there when you came to alabama(huntsville) he built 300 cars or so one was the "Alabamian"
Probably ruled out of existence. I wonder if the builders stopped dreaming wild things like that, or just the rules are too strict today? What do you think?
Hoping you can help me, what's that beautiful red gasser looking one at abour 55 to 56 minutes, next to the black Viper engined Challenger? I'm not familiar with drag racing but I've taken a real interest in historic drag racing recently, so I really apreciate this video.
Thanks a lot man! Did a quick google for it and apparently it was the first altered in England, but somehow ended up in Arizona with almost no paint left on it?
Now you know! Big Daddy plans to add his "Dons Garage" to the museum. In my video "Mopars with Big Daddy" I show the golden rig again. Glad you like it.
No one in Drag Racing knows what The Great Garlits knows about Drag racing. He did everything and built the sport from nothing with some great friends. This is why he's The Great One does nothing Half ass..
Next time I’m in Florida Big Daddy’s museum is my number one destination. I was a huge fan growing up in California. I saw him and Shirley Muldowney at Orange Country, Pomona, Irwindale and was at Lions Drag Strip the night he had his transmission accident and lost part of his right foot. Was actually down at the fence as close as you could get at Lions at the time. As a 13 year old kid I was pretty freaked out to say the least.
Sharpest 91 year old I have ever seen! Big Daddy for President!
I will vote for him! Thanks for watching! share with friends.
What a national treasure,!!!!!!this man is my idol
Same here! Thanks for watching
I visited his museum years ago, late 90s. It was a lot smaller then. I saw him in person at gator nationals in early 90s. He has a aura
Just the resume from his racing days is impressive enough but to hang onto all the pieces from it along the way just blows my mind. And that memory of his, geez. Who recalls details like that! Amazing. Thank you Don.
Couldn't agree more. I do not remember what I had for breakfast!
DON WAS THE MAN AND IS THE MAN.
Don remembers everything , sharp as a tack
He's in great shape 😮.....😊
Indeed. Thanks for watching! share with friends.
What a class act from a racing legend! you were and will always be the man!
The fact he kept most of his cars is amazing. Most racers sell a car to buy a new car.

I first met Don in 1992,at his shop in Ocala. He was repairing a neighbor's Oldsmobile.
He is always tinkering. He doesn’t look at himself as an old man at 92!

Don Garlits for President.
He could pull us out of our debt crisis. He hates owing money, and all his moves have been in cash.
don please tell me about Butch hicks (Cecel "Butch" Hicks) you stored your car there when you came to alabama(huntsville) he built 300 cars or so one was the "Alabamian"
Thanks for watching. I do not know if Big Daddy will see this comment or respond to it.
i saw him and THAT CAR AT CADDO MILLS TEXAS
Cool! Thanks for watching!
Big Daddy teaching all us "kids" what it's all about...
I remember the slingshot with 2 hemispherical side by side
That and Mickey Thomsons Bomiville car with 4 engines
Probably ruled out of existence. I wonder if the builders stopped dreaming wild things like that, or just the rules are too strict today? What do you think?

It is called Megalomania. Is a 1960's MG, with a lot of fiberglass. See my short on it.

I hope he lives until Jesus returns 🙏 What a treasure! I had no idea he was still kicking. 😊
I am not a doctor, but I think he can do 100 easy!
