  • The location for the shackle retainer pin on three different profile Lockwood 245 padlocks. All measurements are within 1/2-1 mm. I had a case of verbal dyslexia and called Mr Lockwood Dr Lockwood:-) You now have a doctorate in Locktology.

    Funny how the bright brass colours differently compared to the older dull brass.
    As soon as you come back from linnishing the 245, it almost sounded like Peter Brock doing a twin legger up a nearby street lol

    How old are the J series profiles? And does the J mean anything?

    • @brianhignett8954
      @brianhignett8954 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary, How old? not sure, they were the second restricted profiles available after the original ML1. Guessing perhaps late 70's early 80's. JA stood for John Andrews, a Locksmith/ Engineer with a business in NSW. He also made the famous key clippers that would clip out - rather than cut - both pin tumbler keys as well as flat steel Lockwood projection lock keys. We still have both machines. He went through many hundreds of key profiles to arrive at the JA profile, he was happy with the end result, as virtually no other existing key blank could be altered to the JA. Regards, Brian.

    • @crankylock7844
      @crankylock7844  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. Yeah, not much to say. Brian has pretty much given you the info on the JA. A wealth of knowledge and a genuine craftsman of the the trade. Cheers:-)

      @@brianhignett8954 Hi Brian, how are you? Sorry for the delayed reply but YT didn't notify me of your reply for some reason.
      OK, I heard rumours that JA stood for John Andrew but the others in the series - JB, JC, etc. - made me doubt that.
      Speaking of key blanks, while plugs with the J profiles can easily be had for a price, the keys are as rare as hen's teeth. Is there any way to source either key blanks or cut keys for the J profiles?

      @@two_tier_gary_rumain Hi Gary, The "J " series restricted keys are no longer "restricted" as such, as the patent has long run out. However, there are very many Master Key systems out there still on the "J " keyway. We have notified all owners that these systems are no longer protected, however most MLA members still have these systems, and most have decided to still "honor" the restriction. We still ask for signatures when cutting keys, and we don't cut other Locksmiths "J " series keys, but refer the customer back to the original Locksmith. Most who still honor the "J " series would not supply blanks, I feel sure, but I can't speak for all members of course, so I believe that key blanks and precut keys will still be difficult to source. Regards, Brian.
