Hello, I do not have a written step-by-step as this was my first time attempting this technique. I still have much to learn. I can tell you the basics of what I know. I will be revisiting this technique and testing everything I didn't try in this video to try and answer all of the questions I wasn't able to in this one. I hope this helps. 1.) Fill a large container with water. a.) Use anything big enough to dip your item of choice, width, and length-wise. Also, remember that the paint will ruin the container, so choose something you don't mind ruining. I kept mine as the designated hydro-dipping container. b.) I used water straight out of the backyard hose on a summer day. I don't know if warmer water would make a difference. I have heard that it does, so consider that. 2.) Prep your item before dipping. I like to prime my bottles; so the colors look brighter, and it also serves as a base coat to cover any spots that might not get some paint. I used white, gold, black, and silver spray paints as a primer. You can also leave the bottles clear and later add lights to them. It would probably look pretty cool. I didn't think to look at the kind of spray paint I was using. I used what I had in my art supplies. I don't think it matters for the primer/basecoat. Make sure to let them completely dry before dipping. 3.) Before dipping, I filled the bottles with water to avoid it from wanting to come back up as I dipped it. a.) This method was something I decided to try. It worked for me, but it's not necessary. If you fill the primed bottles, remember to wipe the outside dry before dipping unless you want that spotted look. 4.) Put some gloves on and create your colorful pattern on top of the water using spray paints. a.) I didn't check the spray paint I used. All I can tell you; is that the metallics for the dipping process did not work for me. I believe the glossier paints worked best. b.) Choose two to three colors and create your pattern by alternating them as you spray. c.) You can create the pattern in two different ways. There's the bullseye, as I did on most of them. You want to spray directly in the center alternating with the colors until you've built a nice set of rings. And there's the random spraying. Spray in random spots, but make sure to alternate the colors. There's no right or wrong way. It's all preference. 5.) Dip the bottle. a.) You can dip it straight down slowly or add a twist as you do. Do not lift it back up while dipping. It will ruin the design. b.) Once it's completely submerged, clear the top of the water using your glove or anything you wish to use before taking it out. Once the top is clear, take it out of the water. c.) Do not reuse any/if leftover paint. 6.) I set mine on a cinderblock outside overnight to dry. 7.) I didn't seal mine, but you should. Use any clear acrylic sealer of your choice. 8.) No, you don't have to refill the container with new water for the next dip. I used the same water for all of my dips. Make sure the top of the water has no paint and only add water if you see the level gets low. 9.) Dispose of water in two ways. Call your city townhall and ask or take a bucket with holes and fill it with sand/charcoal. Pour the water in that and let it filter. (Thank you to the person who suggested this.)
I love your honesty in making mistakes as you go! That's what I LOVE about gardening and crafting - making mistakes! We should embrace our mistakes because that's where wisdom comes from. Cheers!
I love to see the alleged "fails" because it shows the human side of artist. We often see end results or videos with a bunch of edits but you keep it real. Love it. Also I wonder how the ones that were not primed would look with lights inside.
Those are absolutely beautiful !!! Im researching hydro dipping because I am doing a masquerade mask. But now I want to do bottles, too !!! Your sunny personality added a lot to this video, too.
This is a stunning example of how to make a video that imparts useful information for novices. The learning experience really came alive for me watching your "mistakes". Many of the results I thought were great. The "stars" on your patriotic red white and blue bottle was a very happy "mistake". I plan to include this in my school holiday art programme for older children. .
That Lava one would be awesome with a decoupage 🐉 dragon on it and the cork could be a gold nuget or a precious stone the dragon is holding on to! 😍 I can see It now! So pretty!
WOW I LOVE THEM!!!!! ,, THANK YOU ,,YOU DID ALL THE HARD WORK FOR US... I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY...... MY MIND IS BUZZING WITH IDEAS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION.. GOD BLESS...
Thank you so much for showing your whole learning process here. Most "How to" videos are shown by people who are already experts. They naturally make things look easy, which can be intimidating to the novice audience for whom a "how to" video is intended. We need more people to show their mistakes and learning process along the way. Not only does it help new people learn from those mistakes to hopefully shorten the learning curve, but it helps us feel better about the inevitable mistakes we make in our own processes.
I know I'm no art expert or anything. But the bottles you think you failed at. Are the ones I like most. Because they are unique and created by you and are fantastic. If it were me I'd be proud to display them on my shelf. 🙂
I love The Blue/Black bottle,, and the Orange/White one with the spots. That's the great part about art 🎨 You take joy in effing up, creating beautiful mistakes.
I have learned that if you use spray cans, your water needs to be warm. The reason you get stringy paint is because the paint is cold. You can reclame your bottles with a brush and mineral spirits, and use them again. I like how you didn't give up, and kept on trying inspite of all the fails, and did it all with a smile. Good job.
Love your honesty no project can be perfect on the first try you didn't just showed a video like you waved a wand and it was perfect ,you walked us through all your fails thanks need more videos like this
Your spirit is the first thing that I noticed about your video. Praise God for your obedience and creativity and for coming back for those of us who have similar passions and interests.
This is the best video I've seen that talks about the technique and the "do's" and "don'ts" of dipping!!! Thank you so so much for sharing your experience!!!
When I first encountered this video, I initially thought it was too long, but your engaging personality kept my eyes pealed to it. I love that you were secure enough to tell us/show your flaws, but I couldn't see anything wrong with those pieces that you said were mistakes. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to show us how to do this.
Wow! Thank you for showing us how you worked through the process. The fails and added tips were brilliant to see, and the end results are magnificent. Excellent work and fabulous editing and narration. This is my first time seeing you, momma and I'm smitten!! Totally love your style. Thank you for the content!
Thank you for taking us through your learning experience. Knowing what didn't work out for you helps the rest of us achieve the desired result without the extra frustration. So thank you again for the do's and don't! I will be looking forward to more videos from you in the future. Keep up the great work and wonderful teaching techniques you incorporate into your videos!!!!
I really like your approach to creativity and art. Because you seem to be enjoying the process. Even if the result doesn't always turn out how you expected it would. You're still having fun. And that of course is the most important thing. It is my belief that being creative should bring you joy. In my experience, if it doesn't bring you joy, it is very likely you won't enjoy the result. I've tried this technique with nail polish on nail tips. And had very little success. But after watching your video I just may have to try it out again. But, not with nails and nail polish. LoL Have you tried using any other kind of paint? Acrylic, craft paint, nail polish, etc? Thanks for a great video and inspiring me to give hydro dipping another try.
I just stumbled upon your video. #1 great idea and easy to come up with the notions. #2 great tips #3 nice video edits. I absolutely love the double handed spray technique at high speed. #4 excellent music choice. Last but not least. #5 you have the best attitude. And your laugh makes me smile. Have a blessed crafty day.
I love that you showed the entire process so we could actually see what happens with all the different tiny mistakes along the way! That is so much more helpful for first timing these kinds of things! Great job 👏
I just came across your video and I’m so glad I did!! Thank you so much for sharing your successes and your “failures”, (they turned out beautifully as well)! You have such an engaging voice and I definitely enjoyed this video! You have inspired me, thank you again☺️
I was watching etching videos before finding your hydrodipping one. Made me wonder if, like when etching, you could use a decal so part of the bottle shows through after dipping and peeling it off. Could be an interesting experiment 🙂
Many years ago in the 70's I did the same technique with a "Mustang" motor cycle tank. I use lacquer car paint with retarder added so it wouldn't dry quick. I used a black, sanded base and then add the three primary colours of Red, Blue and Yellow.... I made my marble pattern in a cut in half 30 gallon oil tank (used for check air leaks in tires in the old days) I masked off both side ovals, added custom candy apply colours and used it as my back ground for an airbrush mural. re-sprayed the black after masking and then added 6 coats of clear lacquer... it's an old trick and sure beats spray cans...
Wow those are so cool. Loved watching the first ones. Sorry but that was fun to watch. I guess I should not laugh but you were so cute at fails..I thought the bad ones were not bad.. Actually it makes us learn better what not to do. Very smart girlfriend. Thanks for your time and talent. Great job and Gorgeous inspiration pieces....hugs Sheryl 💙🎨💙
I loved them all. Even the ones you say you messed up on, lol. Great job for your first attempt. This video was so well done and informative. I was wondering if you used epoxy or something else to seal them or if you just left them as is.
Honestly, your Horizontal Dipping Style is still pretty good actually, if you're looking for that specific look. I personally think it adds a uniqueness to the piece that no one does. Then again that's just me. I like things most people usually don't. As for the water droplets from filling the bottles your sister was right about the Red White and blue bottle. They Doo look like stars and what's more it works for the piece. So Instead of calling water droplets a "Don't" Why don't you call it a "Happy Accident" or "Artist's Flair"
I love what you've done. Even the ones you said were done incorrectly! I am always on the hunt for new crafts for the seniors I work with and although this craft isn't feasible for my group, you've inspired me! Thank you for your down to earth manner!
I haven't sealed them yet because I was mostly focused on getting the technique down, but I was planning to use a spray sealer once I do. 🤔 However, sealing them with apoxy would take my pieces to a whole new level. I've been wanting to try that, but I don't have the proper tools. Maybe it's time I DIY a rig. Thanks for the great question! It got my gears going! 🙌🙏💗
I like how you showed us all your fails, because it really helps us keep from making those mistakes and then getting discouraged. Thanks for taking us on that journey and I learned a lot. I'm trying to dip unglazed ceramics so hopefully I get a good result like you did. Love the Lava bottle the best, the dark neck of the bottle made me think of a neck of a woman and then the reds swirled over like a wrap around her shoulders. Just gorgeous!
Thanks for being honest about the problems and the number of attempts, etc. So many people show a technique for something they just attempted and act like they are a pro at it, but the missteps show through at some point. I really enjoyed your honesty and you end up with beautiful art. It's fun for me to see the learning process too.
I thought it was really refreshing to see your fails even though a lot of them looked just as good as some of my best work and I definitely am not gotten to your level of any sort of like paint porters or anything like that so you are doing good things and you seem like you are just sending out positivity and I appreciate that keep crafting
I love this and you are the best teacher. Thank you so much! I tried this today. I made all of your mistakes. Lol! I tried it a mason jar with no idea what i was doing. Now I have a clear picture of how to get started. Thank you so much! I'm very excited for the morning so I can try it again.🎉
Everyone can tell you really enjoyed yourself and had fun, even though you didn't succeed at first, you kept trying! I liked every bottle, even ones where the bottle was not dry. The patriotic one looked like you made the "dots" intentionally. Your happiness is contagious! Thank you for sharing. 👍😃
I did this just yesterday. I had tried once before, but it was a complete failure. Watched U Tube more and more. Then I heard the temperature should be above 70. I tried it in winter in Ohio. However, yesterday was fairly successful. Warm outside and time for dipping. Have to say after watching your video...inspiration! I learned a lot. Thank you sooooo much. Have to wait awhile now. No more wine bottles. I gave up alcohol over 7 months ago. Thanks
I did some Hydro Dipping when much younger And two things I learned were to use a taller bucket ( tall enough to go straight down ) and to change a pattern move the bottle in a circular motion around the bucket holding the straight up . The second is to after you fill the bucket with water add a few drops of dish soap and mix with slowly so no bubbles are created . You can then use an acrylic that you can just use drops of color that spread naturally . It also will not matter weather or not how the color is used , one inside of the other or side by side and join with a stick . Hope these will give you even more ways to enjoy .
All extremely beautiful to me. Sometimes the faults in our work turns out to be the best fashion. Love them. Will be definitely getting to work on some.
Art is whatever your process end up being there isn’t any wrong or right way of doing. As the old saying goes the more you do it the better it turns out. Nice and beautiful pieces.
Great video, one of the best on dipping techniques. I loved following the progress of your journey. Thanks for sharing your mistakes and your successes, your humour and your pride. Congratulations.
I really love all of them!! Even your “mistakes!!” I’m handpainting mine and making so many mistakes. It also takes forever. I may have to try this!! I make hummingbird feeders out of my bottles.
I have learnt that with every failed attempt, you're one step closer to success. However with that said every flaw in your work is just a form of indivual character to the product. I am new to your channel, but am enjoying what I'm watching so far.
Loved this video. So glad you are back. I love that you showed the fails (I thought they were great) along with the correct technique. You are just so cute and made my day. Your laugh is wonderful. 💕💕💕🌺
I have not seen that for such a long time the first time I seen that I was a guest 10 years old a friend of ours was very much into art and I was wearing a white outfit which he end up using and creating such beautiful colors I wore that so much I really like the way it turned out thank you for sharing with us I have such great ideas now to go and start to recreate some I am probably going to be doing clothing see how that happens all right thanks again keep sharing with us all right God bless 🇨🇦🙏♥️🇹🇹
Greetings from Puerto Rico! You brought back memories from my childhood; I saw this technique in a car model magazine (we did not have internet/youtube for reference fifty years ago...). I would like to add just two suggestions we (my friends and I) used with quite good results: first, use warm water to warm the paint before spraying; it makes the paint flow better, and the second, try swirling the water BEFORE you apply the paint, that way you lessen the "blank spots". The step about drying the droplets is new and useful to me, but remember we did not have to fill our models with water, we used a bent (metal) coat hanger taped to the underside of the model so we could dip it upside down. Keep up the good work!
I LOVE the first bottle!!!! EDIT: Actually, all the ones you say were not perfect are the ones I love the most!!! Great tutorial and I can't wait to try it.
Your energy & laughter is contagious. I found myself laughing right along with you 😂. All of them turned out so pretty 😍. I could definitely see myself doing this. And, just like you, I love glitter. I would add a light sprinkle of glitter to some of them. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽.

You are an excellent teacher being exactly who you are!
I watched a few videos now on Hydro Dipping and I found yours the most interesting ... thanks
Loved the out come so glad you did as the saying goes..if you don’t succeed try try again…there beautiful 🤩
You are an AMAZING TEACHER!!!! Thank you so much for showing us all the whole process!!! GOING TO TRY TODAY!!
🏺I like white marble, so I prefer the ones that are white, gray, black. Bravo for these 20 original but also classic vases!
😁🙌🏽🙏🏼
Everyone can tell you really enjoyed yourself and had fun, even though you didn't succeed at first, you kept trying! I liked every bottle, even ones where the bottle was not dry. The patriotic one looked like you made the "dots" intentionally. Your happiness is contagious! Thank you for sharing. 👍😃
Thank you!! 🤗🙏🏼❤
Thanks
I love that you showed the trials before the successful dips. Thank you for sharing
They are beautiful, even the ones you thought didn't work!
I love all the first bottles you did. They were not bad, they are unique and the best . People like unique and different.
I just love the light blue ones and I’m definitely going to play this video again to follow along!
Thanks for all the great tips!! 🙏🏼😃
Thanks! I have acrylic paints and was wondering how to use them.
Gorgeous! I’ve been dipping for months without success. You’ve encouraged me to try try again
All of your attempts were beautiful. All would make beautiful art!
All extremely beautiful to me. Sometimes the faults in our work turns out to be the best fashion. Love them. Will be definitely getting to work on some.
Love your energy - thanks for sharing your joyful personality!
Loved these! Great to see how many times it takes you to get the desired look…that’s what makes fun!
I liked all the bottles! Thanks for sharing the highs and lows of hydro dipping bottles..❤😊
Art is whatever your process end up being there isn’t any wrong or right way of doing. As the old saying goes the more you do it the better it turns out. Nice and beautiful pieces.
You're right, but I had a certain vision of what I wanted and couldn't achieve it at first lol
Great video, one of the best on dipping techniques. I loved following the progress of your journey. Thanks for sharing your mistakes and your successes, your humour and your pride. Congratulations.
Even your “FAILS “ are PHENOMENAL…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♥️‼️
It takes practice to make perfect
Such a exciting fun activity
Each one unique and beautiful, I might try.
beautiful creations. Thank you for sharing your mistakes as well.
Dang girl, you are becoming a pro and so brave. That's awesome!
I really love all of them!! Even your “mistakes!!” I’m handpainting mine and making so many mistakes. It also takes forever. I may have to try this!! I make hummingbird feeders out of my bottles.
Oh my gosh! I love it! I will try that in this spring . Thank you !!!!
Awesome!!! 🙏🏼❤
I have learnt that with every failed attempt, you're one step closer to success. However with that said every flaw in your work is just a form of indivual character to the product. I am new to your channel, but am enjoying what I'm watching so far.
Welcome to the crafty Fam! 🎉.🎨🙏🏼❤
You are an AWESOME sharer!! Enjoyable to learn from!! Thank you, for making crafting fun!!

Amen! I'm so glad! 🙏❤
You are an amazing teacher!!! Thank you for sharing your challenges as well as your expertise.
Oh so lovely. As for your bottles with spaces on them, put lil LEDs in them. They will shine oh so nice. I've done that ❤️ 😍
Great idea! 🙌🤗
Hola!! Thanks for the tips! 🙏❤
I LOVE the first bottle!!!!
EDIT: Actually, all the ones you say were not perfect are the ones I love the most!!! Great tutorial and I can't wait to try it.
The bottles turned out beautiful! Great tutorial!!! Thank-you.
Wow !!! That is gorgeous 😍😍😍❣️

The 1stvone actually looked pretty. Art is all different, not wrong. Great job! Looks fun!!!
Your comment warms my heart. 🥰 I did just that lol Great minds think alike. I'll be sharing them soon. 🙏❤
