He looks so calm and relaxed throughout the show. I saw them live and it just blew my mind how relaxed he could be yet hit so hard and perfectly on time.

Also wish they'd catch or program all his ghost note work into their records. (ex. the Contortionist: Language - ghost notes audible and everywhere, gives it a way better groove)

Great primary foot work, I figured he would have used the slave pedal for a lot of this. I wonder what sample he uses on the DM5 live

They need to record drums with more blending of live and samples rather than just sampling over or totally sampling or whatever they do, because he's a sick drummer and should be able to have an actual voice on the album, not a computer typing the words for him.

I know they do, I just think they should blend Superior samples with his actual LIVE recording in the studio rather than sampling all the drums. He is really good and that's just not fair to a drummer as sweet as him.

      Frankie Hardy
      The process goes as follows:
The drums are pre-written, and played along with the track, Dan memorizes the track and then sits down and re-records the sampled drums (usually on a V-kit or something like that) so that the sampled drums are more "humanized."
Both releases of Rareform were him, but while the velocities were humanized, they just used better sounding samples since both versions are exactly identically played.
Before you question that, we're from the same town and I see him around a lot....
I've asked him a couple questions haha

I don't question your statements at all haha, I just feel like even with him sitting down and playing them like that, they don't sound like he played it still. Listen to some of the fills on this new album. I'm sure he played them like you said, but the velocities were not messed with at all so they sound really fake. I just wish that if they were gonna use samples over him, that they'd at least humanize the midi.

      They tried to.
Like "Virga" for example...them blast beats sound pretty weird because the drums aren't real. But let's be honest, renting the studio to record in costs a shit ton of money.
That and there's so much to do with mics and placement and chords and.....ya know?
They also almost always do their recording at home too, so that kinda cuts out the middle man....
Makes it easier on everybody I guess.
