Hey Jake, rather than using a large high cut/low pass filter to reduce the top end so dramatically, you should try and use a de-esser or maybe a multi-band dynamic EQ to attenuate the high frequencies when you’re strumming louder rather than cutting them outright. This will make your lighter finger picking cut through a little more. And then use a high cut shelf instead to darken your guitar tone to taste. This will make your guitar sound more natural throughout high-energy/low-energy parts of the songs you’re playing.
My first reaction was " Ow the title is a click bait" but damn! this is the most immersive video that I have seen, at least from a worship leader's perspective :)
In my experience using the Anthem, it sounds best all the way to the mic side, just a notch before the limit. It gives me the most authentic and natural sounding acoustic tone, keeping all the high end from the mic, and a solid bottom end from the bridge pick-up. Actually, it is not just a mix control, it does some kind of low pass filter to the bridge pickup. I could hear that “bridge pick-up” character on your examples.
100%. Using only the element bridge pickup makes any expensive guitar sound cheap and generic. The crossover is at 150hz so the low end will always come from the bridge elements pickup instead of the condenser mic. I like the mic all the way on so I went with the lyric instead of the anthem when I bought mine.
Can’t get enough of videos like this and this one was great as well. I play a OOO-18 with the same LR Baggs Anthem, into an LR Baggs Venue DI (I think the first one he spoke about during the pedal portion) and it’s the tone I’ve been looking for, full stop. I echo other commenters too - I have the Anthem set at probably 95% mic; hardly any of the under saddle pickup.
Anthem is a solid choice. I personally prefer the k&k trinity system. Under saddle piezo and a condenser that sits inside the sound hole. Blends together amazingly and comes with an external preamp that houses the battery! That external battery is one of the best parts to me super convenient pick up and sounds AMAZING
The thing that helps your acoustic sound more like a mic’d acoustic in a plugged in setting is the TC Body Rez pedal. It’s fairly cheap, but it really helps get rid of the fake sound of piezos. I’d say you’re under utilizing the Grace preamp if you aren’t using the EQ a little to basically make the signs sound a little closer to what it sounds like acoustically, but hard to know for sure without having your guitar rig and PA at my disposal to play with.
I really like the Aura VT Enhance pickup system in my OMC28E, simple and great sounding!! Also I like simple leather straps, they are usually softer and rough on the inside which prevents slipping. D'addario has some sweet simple 65mm. wide ones.
I’m not a guitar player so take my comments accordingly. When you were showing the pedalboard back in Florida, you were talking a lot about the great preamp. With the wireless system though, isn’t the preamp really in the transmitter? Wouldn’t you have enough drive from the receiver output? You do get the XLR output but you could probably use a direct box for that. Albeit, the Preamp does give you the option of running wired instead of wireless.
Yes, and the Grace is just redundant electronics at that point, hooked up to a sub-par wireless system. It's not even needed for the mute functionality. The two could be replaced with only a great wireless system, with interchangeable batteries. That guitar is a keeper though. :)
Congrats on the setup! It’s really nice! About the lr baggs anthem pickup, I would suggest using more of the condenser mic. This is where that pickup shines the most! The cross over for the piezo mic is at 150hz. Even with the mic all the way on, the low end under 150hz will still come from the piezo. It sounds like you have too much of the piezo sound coming through for the mids and highs. I would use the mic all the way on to get a more natural and mic’s acoustic sound. The piezo sound makes any expensive guitar sound cheap and generic. To sum it up, the blend knob all the way to one side is all piezo, all the way to the other side is the condenser mic but the information below 150hz will still be from the piezo element. I like the all condenser sound so I went with lr baggs lyric instead of the anthem.
Crazy to see all the left handed models! Stores here, there’s maybe 1, made of plastic 😂. I love the Brooke signature Martin! I might have considered it but had already order a Ceo7! Enjoy the guitar!!
Wait! I have brookes sunburst 00028 it comes with VTS or is he making a mistake? I will be so excited if does I love it I play it ever day beautiful guitar I play it more then my d35
Do you have any subtle delay that is “always on” and you don’t have to play in time with, like a quick slap back or something to fatten the tone? I’m trying to dial in my tone, and I’m wondering if I do or don’t need any delay, but I don’t wanna have to mess with it when I’m leaving worship.
I use Sennhesier EW-D for my acoustic, but then again I carry a rack around with me with my wireless IEMs as well. I play a Maton 808 another small bodied acoustic but the stock pickup is magic also have a epiphone slash J45 which I have an Anthem pickup sitting around to be installed one day. suits me well.
it does have BTS I really like this guitar I own and Sunburst highly recommend it to go try it. See if it's for you. I also have a D 35. It's a little bit more harder to play on the fingers. My songwriting guitar is the 000 28, Brooks had no idea who she was. I was looking for a 000, 28 and Sunburst that's the only one the store had and I was happy with it when I saw it, but I'm so excited. I didn't know it came with vts But I had a whole D 35 from 75. It did sound better but it played like shit needed so much work so I sold it.
Great video! I appreciate the entertainment and educational value. Also anyone that wants to get on their soap box about Hillsong… I mean, wow. Its a guitar video and Brooke is a fantastic musician and she’s certainly not perfect, but she certainly has earned her signature guitar by positively influencing many worship musicians. That guitar looks beautiful
I thought you were going to get on the soapbox of the multiplicity of acoustic guitars that one sees at Hillsong vs the zero heard in the mix. Thank you for sparing us that one😁

The problem with wireless is you loose the "100% analog" signal path, no work arounds. Totally defeats the purpose of having a really nice preamp like the Grace. Your feeding it a signal that has already gone through AD/DA conversion.

This is a really cool video!! I've been a Gibson snob lol (acoustic guitar I mean) but I did buy a Martin D35 like 2 years ago.. Without a doubt it's a really really nice guitar..After about a year of owning and playing it about everyday the top started to open up and it did sound great.. but at times I felt like it had a tad to much low end. Also in that year I started to really miss that Gibson Tone that my ear had become so use to hearing lol.. So I end up letting it go and replaced it with a Gibson Advanced Jumbo. It's probably the best Guitar I've ever owned. I'm not sure I could ever live a day without my AJ haha but at the same time I believe I prefer Mahogany back and sides over Rosewood. If I could find a Southern Jumbo or a Hummingbird Standard I might be willing to let the AJ go. Lol... maybe I'm just crazy 🤪 😆🤘
So many church guys (and I'm guilty sometimes, too) playing acoustic or electric are always chasing tone. Whether it's the next best pedal/amp/guitar that Nigel or Duke used on XYZ album or if it's the $5-10K McPherson, Santa Cruz or Martin acoustic...they always seem to be chasing some sort of tone. Then they bring it to church and it all gets run through either a crappy PA or a killer PA, but either way, the tone gets slaughtered by EQ (like the insane amount of low AND high cuts shown here), bad speakers or questionable volunteer sound techs. At the end of the day, if you're not recording albums in a studio, none of that extra little bit of tone you think you get out of the next $350 pedal or the acoustic that cost $2K more than you actually needed makes ANY difference in a full band setting. Play something you can afford that is reliable and sounds decent without going into debt. Decent. That's all you need. A $350 Ibanez exotic wood model acoustic will sound just as good as a $3500 signature model Martin when it gets run through the ringer by a sound tech in a PA with a full band.
I think you’re making some good points and as a guitar teacher I try to advise students to not fall for the idea that spending lots more money will automatically make you sound way better. That being said, I think acoustics are worth investing more in than electrics in terms of the end result of tone. I do want to push back a little on your claim that a $350 guitar will sound as good as a $3500 guitar. First of all, I can almost guarantee that a high end acoustic will always sound better than a cheap acoustic, but playability is also going to be better. I do think there are some great options out there that play and sound great between $800-$1500, which is much cheaper than middle to high end Taylor’s and Martins. Musical context is important too. A big band with lots of instruments and voices is going to force the acoustic to be limited EQ wise, but something more singer songwriter with acoustic at the center will certainly highlight a better acoustic guitar and signal chain.
@@GuitarJesse7 I didn’t simply say a $350 guitar will sound as good as a $3500 guitar. I qualified it with “…when run through a PA with a full band”. Of course a $3500 guitar is likely going to sound better in a singer songwriter acoustic setting. But like he demonstrated in the video (though not intentionally), that $3500 Martin sounded pretty unimpressive once mixed in with the band and EQ’d to sit in the mix. And a proper setup on a budget guitar also goes a long way. Nothing you said was inaccurate, but nothing I said was either. I was specifically speaking in the context I outlined in my comments, which also happens to be the context that many viewers of this channel will be playing within.
@@brentdouglas3841 I wasn’t trying to start an argument, and I did mention that the size of the band does impact how the guitar will come across (so I was essentially agreeing with you). I’ve been a director of worship and overseen tech stuff for a long time as well. The background behind my push back to what you said is that I’ve seen the $350 guitar idea put to the test multiple times with some of our acoustic players that have lower quality instruments. It can be tricky to get certain cheaper guitars to sound good, even in the band mix, especially when you’re dealing with volunteer sound guys. You know it’s bad if your drummer notices it and asks if there’s anything that can be done to make it sound better. Compare that with a guitar that sounds great from the outset and just needs a little fine tuning and that makes for a much better musical/sonic experience for the musicians and the audience. Like I said though, I don’t think you have to spend $3500 to get there. I added a comment on the main video too, I really like the TC Electronic Body Rez pedal to help make a guitar sound more studio mic’d than piezo. I’d say that plus a mid range acoustic will sound better than many really expensive acoustics without the pedal.
@@GuitarJesse7 I wasn't trying to start one either. I was just painting with a broad brush about the generalities that I've seen with church worship bands throughout the last couple decades I've been involved in them. You were getting pretty specific, which I wasn't trying to do. My reference to a $350 Ibanez exotic wood acoustic was from personal experience with one for a couple years, but that's about as specific as I got. There are absolutely plenty of $350 guitars that aren't worth the wood they are made from...probably many more than there are good ones. But it is possible to sound just as good with one with a good setup and half decent pickup. And sure it would be great to have a guitar that costs a month's salary or more that sounds great out of the box, but my comments are more meant to prod worship leaders to not try and follow trends and use what works for them rather than forking out hundreds or thousands of dollars on gear that isn't necessary and honestly won't amount to much difference once it's sent through a PA. I started with a cheap Ovation guitar (I believe it was $249 or $300 range) that sounded about as good plugged in as my current J45 when run through a PA. When mixed with a live band and additional tracks, the acoustic becomes little more than added texture 90% of the time. I've felt the same pull as Jake of having owned a mid-range Taylor (haven't found an electric one I liked through any PA) and now a J45.....that I need to get a Martin, too (though I don't have them all concurrently like he seems to). But for me to drop anywhere near that kind of cash on one it would have to blow me away...and so far I haven't played one that I felt that way about for any less than double the price I paid for my J45. But I digress... I've yet to try the Body Rez pedal (I don't use a pedalboard when I'm leading, so it would be difficult), but I have heard several folks rave about it. I'll have to give it a shot sometime.
I mean, it is their job and I don’t see any issue investing in the tools to do your job better or more comfortably. I don’t think they need a Martin or Mcphearson but if they can afford it and want to get it, why do you care?
"When the music fades, all is stripped away... and I simply come" - Heart of Worship, Matt Redman. He seems like a dude who's really into dropping thousands of dollars on music equipment yet it's a church channel.
Don't sleep on the Yamaha AC5R. Everybody runs to the big names like Martin, Gibson, and Taylor but I tried them all, and for my money, the Yamaha played and sounded better right outta the box.
Call video but you’re ready to drop four grand on the Martin triple O which is a super sweet guitar but then when you put your other two guitars in there you have some serious axes dude…rackin up a bunch a coin. What about the other 80% of us worship leaders who don’t go to a mega church and can’t put 10 grand into several acoustics
You can get a comparable guitar for about $1500. Might have to go used, but Martin's are overpriced but great guitars. And you just need one. It's hard to play 2 guitars at once (though to be honest, I have more than a few).
Personally I prefer to own cheaper guitars (not super cheap, but nowhere near this range). This is because when I am playing - whether it’s at church or somewhere else, I don’t want to be terrified of someone touching it. I am happy with the tone it get out of my budget martin.

It was just a whole step bend. I can do that. I wouldn't consider myself to have "chops".🤣
"When the music fades, all is stripped away... and I simply come" - Heart of Worship, Matt Redman. He seems like a dude who's really into dropping thousands of dollars on music equipment yet it's a church channel.
Don't sleep on the Yamaha AC5R. Everybody runs to the big names like Martin, Gibson, and Taylor but I tried them all, and for my money, the Yamaha played and sounded better right outta the box.
bought a guitar off a name. when naming reasons, he never mentioned playability. I want it to sound good on livestream 😂
Would have gotten the Boss WL-50. :) + Boss AD2, or Fishman Platinum pro, and save yourself like 300$.
so basically 10 dudes are playing, tuning, and looking at my guitar before I ever see it
😂 im here for the thumbnail
Should have gone with a Temple Board. Their locking plate system is money.
ok, but is anyone gonna say anything about the inspection guy being so jacked?😳
I don’t think you have to lie
Dreadnought means fear nought or fear nothing.
Check out some of Worship Tutorials' acoustic IRs!
We recommend and teach how to use that for live stream audio in our Broadcast Mix Mastery course - love that resource they've created!
I am happy with the tone it get out of my budget martin.
shouldn't have watched this. Sweetwater, take my money.
What do you think of adding a compressor?
I hope sweetwater gave you that stuff for free.
BOOOOOOOO. This is a Sweetwater/Martin advertisement. Shame on you for using your "worship" for consumerism. Very typical.
100 %. So he built a $4000 guitar rig and is advertising these products as why it sounds good. Gross
"This is also available in a sunburst." 🤮
