    This is fucking fire. True experts in their field talk about the subject in a deep, philosophical, nuanced and often almost seemingly contradictory manner. You can't "understand" this stuff, you have to feel it.
    More of this please.

    Addressing the WHOLE person is fucking incredible.
    I think the medical world could learn a fucking lot by studying stuff like this.
    Maybe we're more than the sum of our parts, maybe not. But we're certainly not even good at counting all the pieces most of the time.

    Awesome. There are probably lots of lifters out there who share a similar approach as JM but have never come across others who have this mindful approach. Great to see a champion for this spiritual aspect of lifting.

    I really love that this is being coached. I've always thought that if you learned to pay attention to you're own body and how it moves, then you can make training decisions on your own as opposed to googling the best bicep exercise for the 18th time.

    He could have just as easily been teaching this in the karate lessons I attended 30 years ago concerning forms or (kata). I believe this type of awareness development transcends disciplines.

      What makes you say that?

  • @Frunk222
    @Frunk222 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Love it. It seemed like to me the next logical step of scanning the room as a dissociated observer would be to turn the attention back to the self, but looking from above or from the side. Often its much easier to pick apart someone elses form then our own, so why not observe ourselves as a third person?

    • @michaelholder98
      @michaelholder98 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just don't get how focusing your attention on random shit in the room is making you anything but more susceptible to injury. I like the wildy diff approach this man has...but this specific tactic I am not sold on. But that's just me! And I know if I was in that room with him and he told me to do it...then I'd shut the fuck up and I'd do it, cause I know he knows more than me. But I'd be pissed the whole time lol!!! So yeah, actually maybe it is a good tactic!! If you hate it...DO IT!!

      Some people are in their head about things. This is a technique for how to get out of your head once you're trained sufficiently that your body knows how to do the movement without you orchestrating it consciously.
      Or at least that's what I took from this.

  • @fredator76
    @fredator76 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A lot of useless BS. The key is not your "focus", it's to turn off that thinking part of your brain and turn on the feeling part. Go for feel. Feel the weights on your heels, feels your quads, glutes, hams, lats getting tight, feel your arms getting long, feel your grip solid af, feel your lats getting engaged, feel the weight, feel the power, feel the speed, feel you are unstoppable, feel you are invincible....

      Prime Matt.....I agree bro, for so long I was over thinking and regurgitating cues. A wise man told me to Master 1 cue and LIFT and beat your numbers. I now workout w way more INTENT, focus and enjoyment and my big 3 lifts are skyrocketing every month. Too much science & philosophy. But everybody's different I guess.

    • @jm7thlevel237
      @jm7thlevel237 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My approach is not for the weak minded. It just doesn't strike a chord. But, ...if you bite down a little, try it just to prove me wrong, it can aid in making a weak mind stronger. Perhaps then it will make sense. Perhaps not. Believe me, I know. I used to have a weak mind. I know what that feels like. This is my advantage: a strong mind knows what is like to be weaker AND stronger. But a weak mind knows nothing about what it feels like to be strong. Just weak. I know both ends. I'm right about this. There is no shame in dismissing me and my bullshit. But what is the harm in giving it a once over? If you don't dig it, dump it. Please don't allow my unsavory demeanor cause you to miss the ideas I put out. Please look past me into them. Or not. Its your life.
