Thanks for clarifying! Well that’s awesome then :) I made a faux pas by commenting as I clicked play. 🔥 I saw the intro and jumped to conclusions. Sorry!
Please do a long travel trip with all 4 of you…I feel like a train trip with you 4 is really needed because yall are comedy a cruise, a train trip, something outside of everyone’s home country
My face always hurts a little after finishing one of your videos. But it's from smiling the whole way through. 😊 It's a good pain. 😂 Thank you for reminding me often how beautiful this world can be.
Yes! Love to see the narrowboats back! Your last series with them, along with David's videos from 'Crusing the Cut', actually inspired me to book a weekend trip on one while visiting the UK a month ago. It was such a great time, a lovely and relaxing break to a fairly busy schedule I had and a great way to see the countryside. I went through the Foxton locks, which is the longest flight of staircase locks in the country, a staircase lock being one that doesn't have a basin between the locks. I'd love to do the Falkirk Wheel, maybe I need to plan another trip! I would recommend it to anyone even slightly interested in it.
The curry and beer after a day of hard work is truly a British institution. I loved living vicariously through this video and feeling the sense of adventure and camaraderie, and the shared pain when Ed tried to leap onto the boat. Bravo
Just want to thank you for your first narrow baiting adventure with your gf. After that I found the channel "cruising the cut", a great narrow boating channel I've been watching ever since 👍❤️
I am so happy right now! Before we went narrowboating, I watched your series, and now, watching this feels so surreal. About a week before this video came out, we went on a Foxhangers boat, and guess what boat it was... Yes, it was Darwin's Fox! When you did the tour, I kept thinking to myself, "My favorite TH-camr is on the same boat I was on and showing me the boat that I was on. So, so cool!"
It was the luxury mountain train trip with your father that made me find your channel but it was the Narrowboating series that made me a subscriber. I'm so excited to see you back in the canals! You truly do inspire me to take and make more adventures, even if mine are extremely tame compared to flying over race tracks in jumbo jets ;) Thanks, as always, for the awesome content
I very much enjoyed the Narrowboat series from last year, and I'm glad to see the Narrowboats have returned for another series! Nonetheless, I always enjoy watching your videos regardless, and it never fails to make me smile when I see you having fun with other friends! Also, I've been watching your Canada series, and let me tell you, it's pretty awesome!
I'm sorry if there were injuries but that leap was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. The pink pants, Mike's reaction mid flight, then the bang. I seriously laughed so hard I had to sit up to breathe.
What a great day, a new video from Mike, back here in the UK and on another Canal boat video.. Things can’t get any better. Thank you Mike for your content, you really are living the dream and through your videos we live them with you
Downie man, watching your videos is Always such an amazing reminder to enjoy life to the fullest. The vídeos are great, but your way to look at life is what makes your channel a celebration and a freaking joy to Watch. Always rooting for you pal.
I live on a narrowboat in the UK and loved your last series. Love all your other vids too. So happy to see you back here living the dream. Thanks for the uploads Downie!
A narrowboat is such an amazing way to see England. When I went, we stayed near a pub most nights and visited them for lunch as well, ensuring good meals and an unplanned beer tour as there are so many regional beers to try.
Your right In saying it's the steepest but it's not the longest lock flight of locks in the UK. The longest is actually Neptune's staircase which is a true flight of locks as the locks share the top and bottom gates with the next lock rather than having a adjoining pound of water between the locks.
*2 QUESTIONS:* *1)* How did they pump the water back in 1810 when the lock was built? *2)* Why isn't there an 8 to 10 foot plank on board so that you can use it as a bridge from boat to land whenever you stop, thus freeing you from having to take painful leaps of faith?
@@DownieLive I know that you're just a guy from Canada, but golly gee, willikers...I like you anyhow! 😉😃 ===================== When the canal was built there was no reliable source of water for the 2 mile (3km) long summit pound, but there were several springs near the canal about a mile (1.6km) east of the summit. Unfortunately they were about 40 feet (12m) below it! Rennie diverted these springs into the canal pound below lock 60 (later known as 'Engine' pound) at Crofton and built a pumping station to lift water via a culvert and well from there into a feeder channel or leat to the summit pound above lock 62. Rennie designed the pumping station to house two steam engines, although initally only one was installed. This was a second-hand Boulton and Watt obtained from the West India Dock Company. It had a wooden beam and a 36-inch (0.914m) diameter cylinder. *Source:* I. A. Recordings
I love the diversity of adventures your channel provides for you, and us viewers. It takes a hell of a lot of confidence to take these narrow boats on! 🙌
the Kennet and Avon Canal cuts through some of the oldest inhabited parts of the British Isles. basically a few miles either side you can find sites that date from around 4000bc. it really is a beautiful and ancient place.
30:20, thats Selly Oak, Birmingham, thank you so much. If you freeze frame at the time-stamp, I lived in one the houses just offscreen off the left. I did my internship here, and I recognized the hospital and Uni instantly. Thank you so so so so much for this little teaser!
Thanks Brother. From Someone that’s in a wheelchair, that would Love to do what you’re Doing, but physically can’t. You took me on a Great Adventure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When you opened alone, I thought, "He's not going to try to navigate a long boat by himself, is he?" But when your friends showed up I knew it would be a great trip, and with curry delivery yet. Loved that beautiful green English countryside. Someday you might try the historic Erie canal in the U.S. which is still maintained and open to tour boating through New York to southern Ohio via lake Erie.
4:48 - when we did the Erie canal there were ropes down the side of the lock that you hung onto to help pull your boat/fenders against the wall. However, those locks all had lockkeepers - we didn't have to do the gates and the water ourselves.
The other advantage of two boats at a time is it is half the crew work. I love that the lock pumphouse is solar powered. Turn around and go back down....
Yeah, another narrowboat series. It's awesome to see you hang out with friends, doing these adventures. Sorry to Ed for his fall. Hopefully just his pride was hurt.
As an Aussie, you all walking through the long grass without a care made me nervous you can't do that here with all the snakes apparently not a problem there
I haven't seen you in a while . It is good to have you back. I always seem to find you as I am trying to go to sleep. But your videos are so good they keep me awake. Good thing I am retired. Sleep time is more of a suggestion than a carved in stone schedule.
I’m actually quite happy that people are out exploring on the K&A, my mum actually lives on that (think I may have seen her boat in the vid too!). It’s such a peaceful area!
When mike said you can enjoy the company of a friend in the bathroom I literally thought he meant having a friend in the toilet talking to you whilst you were trying to poop xD
As a German, who is by the way as jealous as can be when it comes to the canal network, I enjoy the "Narrow Boat" canals for the much-needed slowing down of the mind
It’s fascinating to see that the locks and swing bridges are manual and not staffed. I can’t imagine infrastructure like this existing in the US for multiple reasons.
Canals not for me but I'd watch this guy push a trolley around a supermarket. Hope you enjoy England. Keep up the amazing work , me and the wife love watching your stuff!👍
Many years ago a party of us hired two narrowboats. We soon found that the two crews had different priorities about where they moored. We gave them names accordingly - the drinkers chose moorings close to a pub each night, while the eaters stopped off at villages en route to stock up on food that they then cooked on board.
I follow a few narrow boating channels on utube, I just love that life. Maybe one day I will love to live on one. I've been following your journey and can't wait for the next video. Also u hit the jackpot with our weather 😂
Oh my god ! Just got back from work and the notification just popped up of your video of narrow-boating which i am asking for days . Thanks downie . Hope you see this comment. Thanks for making my day better ❤😊
