I haven't really thought about this topic. Good conversation. We get burn bans occasionally in the summer when everything is dry.
Id keep selling though if people where buying

Good topic. Last year we had a total burn ban for 4 months for the entire state of Louisiana during the extreme drought. Fireplaces, BBQ pits and any outdoor cooking was illegal and punishable with heavy fines and jail. But, when the ban was lifted in December every stick of wood I had disappeared. Not a single one of my regulars called until it was lifted so good on them. I certainly appreciated the ban and all who abided by it because I live in a log home surrounded by hundreds of acres of pine plantations.

I think with how unpredictable and uncontrollable forest fires are, folks may be more prone to think ahead rather than do what they want. Thanks for sharing. Keep cuttin'!

@@saltrock9642 never abided by bans. Just use common sense. If everything is dry and it’s windy not a day to burn anything.

I totally understand why some may feel that ceasing firewood sales during a burn ban is appropriate HOWEVER I doubt retailers stop selling matches, lighters, gasoline or diesel fuel during the same timeframe. Tim in northern TN

Another good reason why i sell in bulk for the homeowner needing heat for the winter.
For whatever reason, August is my busy season for sales by mid-September. i am all done and out

Yup... my area in KY has a 5-month burn ban (it sucks) from the beginning of May to the beginning of October. (We have a hell'uv'a bonfire at the beginning of October) There should be exceptions for Rainy days, in my opinion. As for firewood sales.... The backyard solo pits (social backyard contained fires) are exempt, I believe.... so I'd say keep selling if you have similar laws. Best, -- J. Andre. / Old Iron Acres

We are under a fire ban for a short while in the spring most years. The levels of fire ban is can be different, the most severe means no fire at all with a trail ban for ATV's. Less severe is an open fire ban, but you can burn in a firepit.
Most people who buy from me does so to get a stock for winter. I don't have any problems selling wood for those who wish to burn in a pit because chances are they're getting some to burn when the ban is lifted

I have not filled my stand. Fire danger is "very high" but not a complete ban yet. My sales go down when it's extremely hot anyway. It's no big deal as I was only selling about 20 bundles per week, just feel better about it because I am afraid of loosing everything I own in a forest fire. I could be on "level 2" alert which means packed and ready to leave and STILL BE SELLING FIREWOOD!! Meanwhile, I placed an add on the local bulletin board and selling p/u loads right off the conveyor for heating wood.

People buy firewood for WINTER in summer. Sometimes it gets hot and dry in summer. Anyone who won't sell firewood in summer and cites its because of conscience I would be suspicious of. The only thing I would be concerned about is starting a fire in the woods harvesting firewood during hot weather with a catalytic converter or hot muffler on a chainsaw. If a guy won't sell firewood in summer if he has it Find someone else you can depend on. Winter is around the corner and you need DRY wood.

@@travisdoesfirewood it's statewide, but I actually looked it up. It's ban on brush fires. Mid Mar -mid May. I believe the thinking is all the leaves from previous fall and no new leaves. At least that's what it lines up w. Upstate is so big w wide ranging terrain, pretty flat in WNY, to the Adirondacks and Catskills. So a part could be wet while some is in drought. Not uncommon to get 1/2" here and Canandaigua 20 miles s gets 3-6".

The other thing you may consider here in the state of Ohio, as we grind up a lot of the wood and make pellets these wood pellets are burned a pallet making machine can be small or larger depending on how much production you want to do .they actually sell better and you make more profit From that pellet business, then you will from the work you do on cutting the links at a firewood because you grind the entire tree to saw dust check it out. Most of these pellets do not require any kind of glue. They are hydraulically pressed into the shapes check it out.
