Such a heartwarming video. I live in SoCal for about 22 years now. I am from the Philippines, came here when I am 21. Being a MOM is THE MOST rewarding job ever. You being a lawyer will be second. I am 43 now and looking back I don’t remember my 30s as My kids were younger then (now 8 and 14). I am a critical care nurse. My job is rewarding but being a Mom tops it. I have no inclination of getting a higher education (taking up masters and PhD) because my job is not my life. My kids are my life. I work 3 days a week and hang out with my kids 4 days a week. I cherish every vacation we take. I love the fact that my kids pick our vacation spot every year, and our vacation centers around them. I found you when I was researching about Korea ( we went to Japan and Korea last June.) without you knowing, you have impacted my life. You are in your 30s and you have good memories of it and recorded it. Life is short, you do the very thing that makes you happy. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you found my videos helpful and I hope you enjoy your trip to Korea! That is so amazing that you have found a balance between work and kids with your schedule! I think that part time work would be ideal and the best of both worlds. You are so right, being a mom is the best and most rewarding job ever and that’s precisely how I felt when I decided to take time off. Nothing could be more fulfilling! (But wow, being a critical care nurse... that is also such important work that you do). ❤️

Aww, I love this message so much!! I actually, wrote down a lot of the things you said in here and saved them because they are so inspiring. I wish when I'm in my 40s, which is in 4 years, I will be able to say similar things about raising my child. I feel like I an relate to you because I work in healthcare too. Although not ICU, I deal with sick people everyday. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience!!

I know that your girls will appreciate every moment you spend with them for the rest of their lives. I’m also from SoCal but currently live in SF. I visited SK two years ago and LOVED it! I'm Julia, I'm 16 years old and I'm from Germany. I'm closely done with school because I'm in year 11 now and there are 12 years in total.
I really like that you want your kids to be towards the different people from different countries cause I have parents that are not as accepting towards others than I am. They judge cause of my interest for Asian countries like Japan and Korea.
My biggest dream for the future is to travel to Japan and Korea because I really wanna see all of the country's beauty trough my own eyes.🇯🇵🇰🇷💕
But I'm really thankful your making these awesome videos that really make my day. 💕And I really need videos like this cause I really struggle with myself a lot
    Love Julia

Hi Julia! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching my videos. I think everybody has certain prejudices, but the more we meet people who are different from ourselves, become friends, & travel, the world becomes a smaller place and we are not so different. I think we are all looking for happiness, love, and acceptance. I'm so happy that you are open minded. I hope you can visit Korea and Japan someday! It's so different from Europe but the big cities all over the world can be similar in many ways. 😀

Thank you!!! I totally understand how you feel. I am a full time Obstetrician/Gynecologist and I have an almost 16 month old. I took 8 weeks off maternity leave however I was ready to go back at 6 weeks because I became “bored” and I feel like I had no goals. But I felt so much mom guilt going back. Thank God my mom who cared for my son at home for the first year but I still wanted to be there and make a lot of decisions for him...such as sleep schedule, feedings, etc etc but I couldn’t because I was at work full time. A few months ago I decided to become a hospitalist (working in the hospital only) which would provide more balance and time with my family. It was a tough decision because it sorts of limits my scope of practice but I have a strong pull to the home and when I wake up in the morning and go to work I am just thinking about how I can be done my work faster and get home sooner. I understand how you feel regarding colleagues and friends however I feel like I have spent most of my young adult life doing things like others and how I am expected to do things in regards to my career but I feel like now it’s time to live my life for me and my family. My job is a mom means so much more to me than my job as a doctor (even I spent years of training to become one). I take so much pride in being a mom and being there for my family.

    • @MariesKawaiiWorld
      @MariesKawaiiWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You must have put in so much work to become a doctor with school + residency and on top of that, a huge financial commitment. I can't imagine becoming a stay at home mom after becoming a physician! I think that there are costs and benefits to both. I certainly know how you feel about being bored and having no goals and I have definitely felt that way myself at times! It's such a different world. I do plan to go back to work at some point (whether or not it's as a lawyer) because I think it's so important for me to set an example for my kids to show them that moms have careers too, and that they should expect to do the same. But definitely during these few early years, I had to take the opportunity that I had to take time off 😀

This helped me a lot. I've already made the decision to be a stay at home mom, but I haven't quit my job yet. I am also an attorney making 6 figures. It's hard to wrap my head around this new identity. And it's hard for me to no longer have the paycheck and prestige. I know it's silly, and I know I'll love spending more time with my kids. But it's such a drastic shift from how I thought my life would go. But I am excited to take a break from the law because I was getting really burned out.

This is what I need right now... I am torn between quitting my job to be a full-time mom and continuing my career. I am a Filipino but I live in Japan with my Japanese husband and our two daughters. My husband and I are both teachers. I feel like if I give up my career, I would not be able to fight the "loneliness" in Japan.

You put the life percentage into a great perspective. I’m currently 25 and in school, I’m probably going to have kids when I’m 30 which I feel like kinda late but I want to be stable and work on my career first. It was super interesting hearing about your life and I think it’s amazing when women with established and successful careers put that aside for their family. I think being a mom is one of the best things a woman can be. :) thank you for sharing intimate memories and things about your life and family. Also, amazing that you were a lawyer in New York! That’s like the dream lol

Hi Marie, I know this is an old video of yours, but I came across it by chance after watching one of your stationary videos. I just wanted to say thank you for this video, for going to Japan and living your best life with your husband and beautiful daughters. Your message of not letting age or your kids deter you from enjoying kawaii life and life in general, while still being vulnerable about the struggles of having 2 young daughters is refreshing and today your message brightened my world. I feel encouraged as someone older who still loves 'young people" things, has children of her own and pink, to just live and enjoy your life no matter your age or circumstance.

I'm a new subscriber and now that I'm working solely from home (I worked remotely before, but provide in-home therapy so would travel - now we are doing everything telemed) i'm binging your channel. I am half Korean half Caucasian and my partner and I were beginning to plan a trip to Japan and Korea because I have never been. The planning is on hold for now until we have a better idea of how long the current situation will last, but I enjoy watching your videos to give me ideas! Also, I appreciate you mentioning being older (I'm 37 myself) and still enjoying cutsie or "childish" things. I often feel like maybe I shouldn't enjoy those kinds of things because "I'm an adult" but that's BS. Thank you! EDIT: My partner also loves claw machines and he often brings me a stuffed animal from the grocery store when he does the shopping!!

Thank you for this video. My mom has been a very successful lawyer of 35+ years. My sister and I had many nannies and babysitters growing up. My mom is 64 now and has made a very comfortable life for herself. Despite this, she often talks about her regrets and resentment of having spent so much time on her career. I'm pregnant with my first baby and I have no intentions of working while balancing being a new mom. Some time you just can't get back.

I love this video; you are so open and honest with things, and I love that transparency with you in this. It's amazing how much life can change, and I think you made a great decision. Jobs will always be around, but capturing those moments with kids and family is precious. Never be ashamed to love the cute things; I start to feel that way too at 26 years old, feeling that 30 is approaching and I should be more "mature." But no matter the field (I used to work at a daycare/preschool, and now I work with adults with mental/physical disabilities), always bring that cute side of you with it. Stand out; it makes you who you are. Thanks for sharing this with us, dear. Love you. God bless yours and you!

This is such an honest and raw video T.T I like your outlook in life and the way you analyze the time we spend living. I'm over 30, single, no kids so trust me, your life seemed more productive than I do. Well, basically it's no use comparing ;-) But just want you to know, I'm happy you don't regret your decision. Be proud of being a stay-at-home mom. Not everyone has the courage or privilege to be able to do what you do. I grew up with my mom busy working in a bank, not that it made us feel distant with each other. I know she's working with us kids in mind, too. But watching your videos, it's like wow.. you make 'being a mom' awesome with all the things you do and that sacrifice you did for your kids.
I understand that every mom has her own methods to child rearing and to cope with the times. Nonetheless, know that you're making a huge difference on your kids' lives and the people they would touch in the future. I'm sure when they grow up, they'll be really grateful, pay this goodness you did for them forward, and they would look back and see how you've always been there for them the moment they came out of your womb.
Always remember you're one superwoman! I bet some of your peers look at your profile too and may have wished they enjoy family life like you. Wishing you and your fam true happiness

I am much older than you and have the same feelings of "behindness" and "inadequacy" being a sahm in a world where it's not valued much. I know my kids loved that I was a sahm and when I see their friends who have parents who couldn't or didn't make the choice to be a sahm, there's always a cost and usually, it's the children. I have two very healthy(mental, social, emotional, physical and spirutual) children and I'm so grateful! They blow me away with all that they can do and it's such a joy to see all of it!
My kids and I just started watching your channel because we are planning a trip to Korea next summer. And my son loves stuffies and loves to watch ppl do claw machines! So thank you for showing us all of it!
And God bless you and enjoy your beautiful daughters at this age! We love and smile at Valentina (love her name) as she repeats everything her big sister and m&d says! Reminds me of when my son use to do that! Absolutely the best thing and so adorbs!

Aww thank you so much for your kind words. :). I hope that people will change their view of SAHMs as time passes, because i think it’s so valuable. Someone has to take care of the kids! And honestly these days home with my kids are the best days of my life.
How fun that you are coming to Seoul!! I hope you enjoy your time here! We were so addicted to the claw machines, my husband and I... luckily we were able to break the addiction and we don’t play so much anymore. 😂 but we still enjoy it once in a while.
Valentina cracks me up, she’s a little echo to everything her sister says!
Anyway thank you for your message. I love to read comments like yours!!

This was a lovely video. You definitely share my thoughts on how precious childhood is. I never thought I’d love being a SAHM either, but here I am! I only worked for 3 years after getting my degree, but my check pretty much covered daycare and it was so stressful. My entire family is happier this way and I’m glad to be there when my son needs me.

Thanks for this video. I'm Eda from Malaysia. I quit my job too 2 years ago. My parents couldn't understand my choice. I was too occupied with work then that I felt I wasn't spending enough time with my firstborn. Now I'm taking care of my 4yo son and 1.5yo daughter while having my own small shop. Its harder and tiring since you don't have time off but everything felt worth it. All the time with them is so priceless. I love Korea and Japan as well. Can't wait to bring the kids to travel there.

Hi Eda! Wow, that's cool that you are able to have your own small shop. Despite being a SAHM we always have the side hustle to make some extra $$ and keep us busy! (Mine is TH-cam) Thanks for commenting. I felt the same way... I hope you enjoy your time in Korea and Japan! I've never been to Malaysia but would love to visit someday!

I loved this video! Currently just visiting Korea and just stumbled upon your videos for some help!
I lived in Taipei, Taiwan for a year after graduating university but moved back to Canada afterwards, and I feel like I’m constantly thinking about living in Asia once again. But I think it’s hard to leave and start over and I really felt what you said about falling behind your peers. I think that’s what keeps me in Canada.
Anyways, I loved this video and I love how much you care and love your kids. I also love that you celebrate youth and loving hello kitty at any age! It makes me so happy and proud! A lot of my friends ask me when I’ll grow up from my tacky interests but I don’t think I ever will! Thanks for showing me it’s okay.

Aww thank you so much!!! I hope you find the right path for yourself!! There is no right answer, and everyone has their own unique factors to consider. I definitely question my decision whenever I log into linked in. I feel sort of a loss. But in the end I don't regret it. I hope I can go back someday but it will be hard! Glad that I"m not the only one who likes Hello Kitty in my late 30's. The nice thing about getting old is that you don't really care too much about what other people think! 😂

Amazing video. I just made the decision to be a stay at home mom and I loved the rationale you had to spend these formative years of your childrens' lives with them. I sort of have the same view. For me, the first 4-5 years of a child's life (before they join school) are the most critical for thier development and most important as a parent to be an active part of. And SO AGREE on the last part about raising kids with varied experiences so they develop into more sensitive, tolerant, better human beings. Thanks for this. P.S. I'm from Pakistan.

    • @MariesKawaiiWorld
      @MariesKawaiiWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Congrats on your decision! I agree that the first few years are critical and I was glad to be able to spend that time with my girls. I’ve now taken 6 years off and am getting ready to go back to work - applying for jobs, etc. enjoy that time with your kids, it’s so precious and goes by in the blink of an eye. ❤️

Best decision of my life. Every day with her is so precious and I wouldn’t want to miss it. Watched your Itaewon video and now this one. Your daughters are so beautiful and I love how you are raising them to value intellect over physical beauty, especially in this culture where looks are so important! Thank you for sharing your life!

Aww!! Thank you so much!! Being a SAHM is so nice especially when your kids are little and need you so much. That is great that you were able to do it too. I definitely want my girls to not value how they look as much as what is inside - I keep emphasizing that but sometimes I feel like it's an uphill battle given how society focuses so much on the former. But I do the best I can! Thanks so much for watching my videos! I am glad you enjoyed them.

I just found this video! My son is 18 months old and I quit my job to dont send him to daycare or having a nanny exactly because i would see him 2h a day (awake) or so. I went to grad school and i still like you said having "lik crisis" here and there but he is definitely my priority and the fact he can calmly wake up every morning and dont get rush into the car and I and his dad be present is priceless. I do miss my job. I am also afraif this big gap on my resume but visiting daycares for me as such a sadness... In the USA ratio is 1:4 for infant so there is no way a baby is well cared. Just stumbled upon your video and wow! I love how genuine and authentic you are. I’ll definitely hit the subscribe button after this as I can’t wait to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed your video. Also, please don’t feel inadequate (as some of us often do too) because you’re doing an amazing job as a mom and like you’ve mentioned, being a mom is the toughest job in the world but utterly rewarding. I’m 48 and my son is 17 now. When he was born, I gave up my 6 figure job too, for 4 years and then, went back to work two days a week just to feel adequate and relevant. But you know what? Nothing Beats motherhood and I missed my boy so much when I was working (even for that two days). Hence, I totally quit and restarted work when he was 10. Continue to be the great mom to your girls because they will appreciate it and you’ll have the satisfaction to know that they’ll have such a strong bond with you. Big hugs 🤗😘

I’ve been struggling about my new identity as a new mom and losing my income. It’s been weighing down on me and sometimes it makes me sad or puts me down. However, I know I’ve always wanted to be a mom and I felt like it’s my purpose since my parents abandoned me as a newborn. It’s just really hard to make peace with losing the income because I’ve always been employed and not dependent on my husband or anyone as an adult.
When you put the SAHM perspective the way that you did, it made me realize that I could only be spending less than 2% of my years during my daughter’s first critical years. So it made me feel better. Thank you for putting it this way.

I love your channel! I lived in Seoul, Korea for a very long time! My third son was born over there, we moved back to the states for a couple years & fortunately got to go back & spend another 3 magical years there! Living abroad is amazing! I was the bread winner in my relationship & I gave that up to start a family! I have looked back~don't get me wrong, but I know that I chose the correct path as putting a new title on my belt & I have never understood why Moms get a bad rap!!! I worked several years while I was over in Korea, teaching English, & that has added to my resume, & working part time jobs to make ends meet, but there is so much value to being Mom & seeing things & hearing things & living my dreams out! Life is so short, I totally agree! AND I live in a realistic acknowledgement, not false & I know that while my kids are still kids~I need to be with them & I do not expect to have everything handed to me. Even though....one of my children is almost outta my home...I know that hopefully her aspirations will be met but to remember that Life is what YOU make of it! It does not do you any good running in the rat race! Stand up & shine & relax from judging yourself off of what friends/co~workers tell you. :) Cheers! I think you made an awesome decision!! Two Thumbs Up!

I agree that life is short and the time to start doing what you love is now. That’s great that you were able to pass that message on to your kids, and I hope to do the same. Thanks for watching my channel! ❤️

Have been binging on your videos since came across you a few months ago. I hardly get time so binge all together when I can. Subscribed after watching 2-3 videos. I like how you take one around, it's how I like keeping track of exits and places when I travel. Was putting off this video of yours, cos A). I'm very much 'Mind my own business kind of person', so your reasons are yours... B). I followed you but wasn't that invested in you, as in, wanting to know more about you. But I am so glad I did click on this one. I am not in the same boat but I still got teary eyed and your sincerity is so valued. I'm a travel enthusiast, grown up on my Father's travels, and love how you're bringing up your kids and instilling the important values. They'll grow up with a huge appetite for the world and be amazing cos you are so kind. Keep shining.

@@MariesKawaiiWorld I do, keep making, I'm learning so much about Seoul, whenever I do visit, I'll be much better prepared though I still feel, it will still be overwhelming. I'm glad you did, I value kindnesses and sincerity even if a shred and you put it out so much. Thank you.

This is a beautiful video, Marie! Thank you for sharing your story. I always wondered how it was that you ended up in Japan from living in America. I have been with you long enough to know why & see your move to S. Korea. Your daughters will be so thankful when they become older that they had you at home to be with them. Remember, there is always time in the future when they are grown that you can return to your career if you choose.
My name is Kerry & my life right now is rather unexciting. I'm 45 yrs old. I have spent the last 3 yrs trying for disability, I could no longer work due to a diagnosis in 2015. My 73 yr old mother & I live together. I am not married, no children ( I had a miscarriage in 2011 & then no man in my life after that to try for another child, then my health declined). I am ok, I now enjoy more of the smaller moments in life :) Thank you for your inspiring videos, Marie!!!

Oh Marie. This is such a heartfelt video, that explains why I am so drawn to your channel. Your videos helped me.make up my mind about visiting Korea this past August and they helped me confidently navigate my way through Seoul and Busan. I knew what to expect and did not miss too many things in the 10 days I was in Korea. I plan to go back next summer for another 10 day stint. Thank you and your family for sharing with us. Where or how can we support you financially?

I’m the same age as you - married but childless. This video and the timeline you did came to me at a time when I am disgruntled with my current life. It’s like a perfect timing to jot me out of what I am going through now. Thanks for making this video. I would do anything to be a SAHM if I have a kid too.

I just got my undergraduate degree and still looking for some job, but i always know that one day i will dedicate myself as a SAHM. I have big respect for you and all the SAHM out there! From this video i can tell that you are definitely a smart woman, because you give clear explanation about your opinion/point of view (ofcourse bcs ur a lawyer! btw, i really like the timeline of life!). I also think that you have beautiful and bright daughters, i hope you guys stay healthy and happy.

I totally empathize! I unexpectedly decided to stay home with my son when he was little, because I couldn't bear to be away from him everyday. My career suddenly seemed meaningless (I was a graphic designer). Unfortunately, my (ex) husband was not on board with being the sole income earner and it eventually tore us apart. But I don't regret my decision for a minute. I did lose valuable career advancement years, and it has definitely affected my earning ability even to this day. (I'm now 53). But honestly, all of these sacrifices were worth it 200%. My son is now 26 yrs old, and looking back, being able to stay home and raise him full time - those were precious years for me and for him. During those years, I was often bored, tired, felt unappreciated, unattractive and like I was being left behind my career-oriented peers, but even still, I don't regret it at all and am very glad I made the decision I did. Children and family are what's most important in life (at least to me).
(PS: I love your yellow blouse!)

Hi Elle! Comments like yours make me feel like I made the right decision. I’m so glad that you were able to spend those precious years with your son! I totally agree with you that children & family are the most important thing. I totally felt that way about my career after having children - what was once so important was meaningless. I’m sorry that it tore apart your marriage though. That must have been so tough. ❤️. Thank you for watching my channel!
