Well I was working on a video about the future phases for Season of Discovery and all of a sudden, we get a roadmap for nearly the entire next year of content releases.
So today I go over expectations for when future phases will come, how long they will last for - and more importantly what I expect the future content to be.

I think we still need seasons. Leveling is the most fun part of classic, I would get horribly bored sitting at lvl 60 waiting for a new raid or something

I would expect Sunken Temple to be the level 50 raid. It's about right level, and every class gets their level 50 class quests there already, and it's certainly big enough to be a raid.

I hope the phases last longer than 8 weeks. That’s so fast for most people. I would love to have another 6-8 weeks to raid and get more characters to 25 to see how they feel. It would be a shame to make all this great new content and then no one except streamers and TH-cam people get to enjoy it.

I guess this is a question of how much on average the player base plays. Blizzard will likely base the length of phases off how much the majority plays, so if the majority plays a lot, it's gonna screw over the more casual-orientied minority since phases will be released more quickly. To me, it seems like people have gotten a lot more 'hardcore' about it in general in that they just play more in general and care more about min-maxing and such. But no idea if this is just my perception of actually correct for the majority. We'll see.
yes true. it seems like all the content creators act like the phase is over and fully played through but thats only because they do this for money, if i would treat wow like i fulltime job i would be done with the phase too but as most people i get to play only at max 14h a week not 35h+.
It's tough releasing around the holidays as well. For some people, that means more time to play. For others, especially parents, it's less time. I could bring a steamdeck or switch for travel, but not my pc.
It'd be such a gravy train for them to keep adding content to SOD -- kinda like a do-over for Blizz. I hope they keep it going past 60!
Getting to see what's behind that giant gate in Azshara would be a start. The Timbermaw Raid will save us, brothers!
While they're saying they have no plans on doing this past Classic, they would legitimately ruining their company's future profits if they don't. That wouldn't look good with the new heads since Microsoft will be taking over starting next year since they promised to keep Kodick on until the end of this year. They're clearly taking inspiration from Ascension WoW, the private server, and if they want to hype people up like they do then they need to keep it going. Ascension has WAY more content and WAY more customization due to the whole "classless" thing but if SoD was to continue into TBC then Blizzard would actually create far more hype and have a chance at milking WoW for another 2+ years at the very least.

I would love a Scarlet Monastery raid but i really, really, dont want to lose the dungeons. I play in a group of 5 and we are really looking forward to dungeons and would suck to lose them.
From what I’ve heard SM dungeons are currently available in phase 1, they will probably be available in phase 2
Since gnomer is confirmed the next raid its highly unlikely they would delete the dungeons in this phase even if they plan to make it a raid later.
Also I think it would be a mistake and they wouldn't want to ruin the leveling process by deleting the most popular dungeon.
wish they'd make a new portal that puts all 4 wings and the outdoor room that connects the 4 of them all into one mega dungeon, and keep the original 4 portals as the 5 man dungeon versions.
Or they could use some imagination and create a whole new Scarlett raid that's separate from the dungeon but they are too lazy for that
Hard to say. You can't enter gnomeragon, presumably because it's the next raid... but you can enter SM and it was confirmed to be the following raid so... who knows

I'd want it to be more expansive like Mara or BRD that feels like a real place in a real world, and not the linear gauntlet/theme-park ride it was in Cata.
I doubt they would go that far this season, but if things keep going well then I think there is a future in totally new classic content rather than just updating existing assets

I think that if SM becomes a raid, for alliance they could make a portal similar to the one for bfd in darkshore. like, kill a boss or do a quest for a new faction called the "lordaeron reclamation front" or something, I'm not great with naming :)
They should give Alliance a portal to SM either way, all the dungeons for next phase are in Horde safe territories. It would be extremely unfair for Alliance to travel like 30 minutes to the dungeon, through horde zones where only horde can initiate pvp.

there is no "if SM becomes raid". They already teased SM as raid just like they teased Gnomeragan and Kara crypts during Blizzcon. I expected SM raid to be the lvl 40 raid but since its gonna be Gnomeregan, SM is either gonna be a lvl 50 raid (maybe with Maraudon or something else) and have 2 or maybe 3 raids or they will remake SM as raid for lvl 60 in addition with MC/Only at early lvl 60 phase.
The staggered level cap thing is honestly one of the most surprising things to me, it's a nice achievable goal for all and it keeps the level disparity tight. I also love how popular Darnassus is now, it's so weird to see, but very cool. The same thing will happen with IF, even though it always was the true capital, but people are going to love that on Alliance side at least. Classic + is a big win, so far I am hoping for a February release as I want to play with other classes.
Since its super fast phases compared to classic wow.... would be cool if they kept 40man but they like 2 or 3x the loot that drops.

@@TommyBoyB I agree, more loot faster the better for seasonal. Might allow for one or two Alts to be maintained throughout the whole thing.
If we had to change something about 40 man raids, in an ideal world I would want 10-40 man flex. With the more people you bring the more min max the resulting loot will be i.e. more drops per play in raid. It would be a small difference, but just enough to make it desirable for guilds to grow up to a 40 man format.
That’s a great idea. They could have NPC’s to fill out when there’s no players and have them drop out and it raise difficulty based on how many real players are in the raid.
Smaller MC raid size with the same boss stats would be cool

Personally I'd guess Maraudon would be the raid for phase 3. It doesn't have the overwhelming amount of bosses of BRD. It has a lot of places that feel fitting for a raid especially the final room where you fight Theradras. It fits in perfectly for the level cap as well.
Temple of Atal'Hakkar would also be really cool to have as a raid. Especially since the loot from the final boss would probably be not as relevant in SoD if it doesn't get turned into a raid since that stuff is put at level 51 and will probably be outclassed by raid gear for anyone that plays phase 3.
So, either one of those I would personally guess.

The assignment to turn BRD into a raid is absolutely massive I doubt they can pull it off
Imo they shouldn't take away the "superdungeon" and make a 3 hour raid... or a raid with "wings" out of brd.
1. I think the super dungeon of brd is perfectly balanced. It's a 5man dungeon, NOT at lvl cap so some things can be soloed at lvl cap with great gear. Technically brd has both a 10man raid(ubrs) AND a 40 man raid - molten core...
Blackrock has 2 parts, the elementals/dwarf + the dragons on top of the mountain. Give that treatment to other "factions" such as the trolls, ZG + a 40 man raid?
The undead, stratholme, scholo, naxx... that one we got basically, add a 10man raid(stratholme, cough cough)... bugs/old gods with AQ 25 AND 40, add a super dungeon to that.

MAKE MARAUDON INTO A RAID
A lot of people are speculating the level 50 raid will be Sunken Temple. Several class quests take you there and it's fitting as a raid with the dungeon size. Mara would be cool too!
Love the smaller raid sizes. So much easier to get shit done
There is a simple sollution to the 40-man raid problem. Add in a certain reward for leading the raid. Such as reputation, sought after items or just gold. It could even be a "repeatable" quest or quest series with different rewards for each successful clear you have lead. Or make it so that each cleared boss gives a higher reward at turn in. This way even the failed pugs would get something.
How about keeping Alterac BG for lvl 60 and introducing Azshara deleted BG for phase 3 ?

I really really hope we dont return to 40 player raiding. Getting 40 ppl to appear on schedule was such a goddamn hassle, gearing was slow and the raid mechanics werent better for it either. I know 10 man Raiding makes it a lot more "casual" but SoD being the mode were you can just hop on, PUG a relaxed 50mins and it still feeling like classic wow is such an absolute blast.

I love the flex raids. Health scales per player and mechanics scale per group. Like if 2 players get a debuff in 10man then 3 players get it in 11-15 man.
Please add a 100% mount if they add AV at 50.. like an AV only mount at friendly or honored or something

I get Arathi is where the battleground is, but South Shore and Tarren Mill is the historic place for world pvp. If they were going to anything besides STV I would like to see Hillsbrad.
I’d like a feral rune that makes shifting completely free. As a feral in classic, my biggest challenge was learning to shift while keeping in mind how much mana I had.
As a PvPer, that’s our main way to either slow a Druid down or beat them. Stacking enough slow effects to have the Druid waste mana shifting in and out of form to escape, with either the Druid being able to escape, or running out of mana and needing to fight.
Why not just remove mana altogether? Make all heals and spells free too.
im a 40 man raid supporter and id prefer to have the raids at 60 be 40 man, but if were gonna compromise for smaller raids then id want them to be 25 man with smaller raids like a ZG be 10 man

New pvp would make sense to be azshara. As most know thats a piece of scrapped content that could be revitalized in some way. The did something similar in SoM with farming . I wouldnt be against them reigniting something there though.
Another option would be in deadwind pass. Pvp event + new raid would fit the ashenvale theme quite well. As well as being a dead zone content wise.
Revamping Azshara could definitely be cool.
time gated leveling is one of THE BEST ideas they ever had.
people come back for new small content updates every few month but inseat of max level quests like retail they get to explore and level again.
i never understood why this isnt the case in an expainsion. for expample make 11.0 level 72, 11.1 level 74, 11.2 level 76 and so on.

I would like to go through the regular raids but make them 10-20man raids with a 3 day lockout so we go through them quicker than usual to get into the newer stuff
Bout the original raids I see two ways that things will happen - either they will tune up MC, Ony, etc because having 40 ppl with the Runes will make the raids total faceroll. Either they will keep the raids as they are but they will reduce the raid cap to 25 ppl which in itself means it will be harder and will match the new power of the players or they will tune up those raids, maybe with new mechanics like they did BFD.
Absolutely loving SoD! Really pumping on the hunter been farming BFD now a while. Leveling a warrior so that... sucks. But you know... Gonna whale him out and then prep for P2!
I love that UI with the health bars either side of the action bars, what do you use and do you have a shareable setup for it?
I think at 50 cap we will see Azshara PvP concept utilized, either through a PvP event in the zone or its own battleground
Did my first BFD full clear last night. Outside of getting honoured with PVP vendor all I have left to do now is grind BFD every 3 days.
Im going to spend the rest of the time farming gold for my main, and start an alt Warrior.
warriors in classic did want the helm in gnomer for pulling. saw a warrior do this is scholomance (room under the entrance bridge) pulled the whole room, liped, and aoe taunted followed by grenades, yes he did live and yes they did kill it.
TLDR its the best way for any tank class to aoe pull a room without walking in and bodying it.
Coming from ERA, i would really like if they would change all the raids at lvl 60. Going through mc, ony, bwl, aq40 again... huh no thanks
The final battle of the second war took place at the foot of blackrock mountain, think it could be a cool pvp event zone for a later phase
I would love to see mini events added along with new world bosses scattered around the world for us to discover 😮
I would like to see world bosses integrated with the new zone events.
SOM You got to do the AQ40 event, but it opened on its own after a week or something. So we WANT the event Willie so we can get that rep and so any crazy people can go for their AQ mount.
Level 40 phase is going to be absolutely epic, assuming it’s STV. So pumped to relive that classic STV WPVP experience

Next phase be "lfm gnomer, 7/7, show gearscore, show logs from BFD, full buff, full consume, going for sub 30 min run, no alts" 😂
I could see blizz offering players at the end of SoD content to visit their giftshop and pay a small fee and have their characters cloned to either cata or MOP depending on what is out by then to the beginning level of that new zone so you are ready to go through the content and just have a beginnners custom gear like boosts gave out and of course any runes and SoD gear not transferring
I'd love it, if they reworked and finally used the old DOTA style PVP event in Azshara!!

I think they should do what POE does and at the end of the season all characters (and mechanics, added items, everything from that season) should move to a "standard" realm. and then a new season comes out that keeps the changes from the old season + adds new stuff. I'd also like to see cosmetic rewards of some kind be added to your account for achieving certain things within a season, they should also add in realm first titles or something.
IMHO one way Blizzard can go for the level 60 raids is to make them 25 man for example and balancing the raids to account for the new powers will be a tad bit easier. also they can move them on a 3 day lockout and that way each phase MC/BWL - AQ40 - NAX, can be a tad bit shorter. I think this is one way to do it since if Bliz has to balance the 40 man raids for entirely new Pre - BIS items as well as runes and stuff will be really hard. They either have to Buff the f out of this raids to account for new powers or scale them down for fewer players and do some lighter tuning.

@@RealEuropeanPatriot Fair point, however you can change 40 man with 25 man and all this points still stand, I do agree that 10 man is only suitable for dungeons and dungeon raids however 25 man is more than enough to have an active guild/community its a lot easily managed, less loot drama easier to get raids going, only downside I see of 25 man is that its not as glorious as 40 man. In regards to your comment that 40 man raids make classic, classic, I have to disagree, what make classic, classic is the character feeling and the world, the way items hold certain value etc.
I personally don't care all too much if they make the raids 25 man or they stay 40 as I said I was just giving a point of view to what might be easier to tune considering all the power up from runes and new items.
Alliance has to run through Horde territory for dungeons all the time. They can deal with the raid being in Alliance territory.

I think phase 3 will introduce a new BG and rep (and it will be an epic BG like AV) and save AV for phase 4.
They should really use the azshara battleground. Most of the terrain is already developed

I hardly think they're going to give us 3 phases that have redesigned dungeons as raids with built from the ground up brand new encounters, and then just throw us into vanilla Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair with nothing new. I don't know what they're planning, but it's gotta be something more than that.
In one of the interviews they said raiding MC without some sort of changes didn't make sense with the new rune powers. So i do expect changes to all existing 40 man raids. They would be a joke without.
I hope they scrap all the level 60 raids completely and just make new content like people originally wanted classic+ to be
Maybe SM will be turned into a raid for character progression from level 25 to 40. Either raid level increments like the dungeons are now (GY, Library, Armory, Cathedral), or one big raid at level 32 or 35 or something, or maybe even lvl 40. The increments would mean two level 40 raids - SM Cath (and maybe Amory) and Gnomeregan. Developing two raids in one phase sounds like a lot of work though. But otherwise, having SM as a raid in another phase doesn't make much sense to me, unless its end-game? But then, we already have Strat Live (and Undead) for that - albeit dungeons, but which are similar.
It would make sense for 50. Otherwise they have to shut down 4 very common leveling dungeons for next phase, which leaves us with two dungeons only, RFD, which is around 38-42, and RFK which is like 28-34. That also doesnt sound good. You want access to SM during 25-40. Many people have done pretty much all quests available at 25 for gold, just because we planned on dungeongrinding a big part of the way to 40 so that we can keep the quests for gold on max level.
Have they said SoD will have an end date? I can see it just naturally turning into classic plus over time, a new expansion unique to classic being added without raising level cap and instead having server/region wide activities and a goal to work towards similar to AQ gates to unlock the new content
I honestly hope they dont do 40 man raids. I know people say it makes people join a raid and become a community but tbh in 40 man raids you just become a body. There are too many people to feel like a close group 10 and 20 man you really feel like a group of friends. Especially 10

Just curious what games, if any, other than WoW, that players have time for? How many hours a day or week do you spend playing WoW?! I'm genuinely interested since I stopped playing because I didn't have time for all the other games and 2023 in particular was a banger year for games.

STV will be fun on it's own. Especially with faction balance finally in place. I'd make the pvp event in Arathi.

I‘d like to see them integrate unfinished questlines that were planned for vanilla.
I would love to see sod server becoming non seasonal server like diablo 4 does. that way they can mess around with balance at lv 60 end games with it. If that's the case they will have more information when they decide to make classic+ or another sod type of contents.
You're talking about eligible pvp zones, but there's no 'new pvp event' listed on the roadmap for level 50 and 60.
so with the level 60 content my thinking is this, We are currently doing so much dps and healing at 25 already I wouldn't be surprised if mc is still for 40 people but you could clear it with 15 easily.
Also i would be ok with tbc sod once we are done with classic, i know tbc had problems but this is sod they can fix some of those issues
What if Blizzard pulls a wild card and has completely NEW and different raids for 60 end game. If not that, then maybe at the end of Season of Discovery our characters a transferred to official Classic Plus servers
They should do the war effort. Servers seem bigger now so the war effort would be faster, and they could cut 25% of the bug farm off by rewarding a little more rep per turn in. That event is so important to Vanilla, if they want to speed it up slightly that would probably be ok. Also they should add new rewards for deputized people helping the Scarab Lords.
This is best time i had in wow ever, sod has been so good i think cuz no one has played before so is exciting to discover all the content and not following a guide for every step u do on ur wow journey

Hope they will go nuts with the end game. Mnt hiyal, beyond greymane wall, uldum. Keep MC bwl aq etc etc closed. No need to do the same raids with few runes extra.
Please keep raid sizes to 10 mans. Anything over 10 people just adds a gross amount of logistics, stress, drama, scheduling, commitment that all just overshadows any actual enjoyment of the gameplay systems. As a previous raid leader id rather just focus on the gameplay with SoD. Ive got a handful of my friends to play with now plus a pug here and there. Thats a nice change of pace for anyone who has played classic since 2019.
That said, half the reason i got excited for SoD was to see BRD as a raid. Its the best dungeon. Hidden bosses, the ability to overcome encounters in a variety of ways, sometimes without combat, tons of exploration. So good.
Open World Hyjal pre-Cata would be dope.
Literally eating a Factor meal as I'm watching this. Like $12-$14 bucks for a ~700 calorie meal with minimum 30g protein and zero effort on my part? Huge quality of life gain, personally.
Its only fair that for once horde has to move in our zone. I dont even need to mention how they farm our low levels in redridge mountains all the time but we cant do it to them because then can level up safe to 25 in the barrens

I hope we will start seeing actual use of "unfinished" vanilla stuff. SOD is great, but not keen on the idea, of transforming existing dungeons into raids. I would like actually see something new-new.
I definitely think there’s a lot of room for unfinished areas to emerge. Most of them would pop up in phases 3 & 4 I would think.
I really hope the phases are longer than predicted. I'll probably fall off if they come that quickly.
i have assumed sense the beginning that if sod is popular enough blizz would just continue it as classic plus and continue to add things. that seems like the easiest thing to do if it remains popular

Hello my destruction warlock would like 10% flat hit and maybe make my chaos bolt cleave while you are at it. This should be fairly balanced.
Gotta say I'm surprised SoD is getting this much praise. They really haven't done much with it tbh. It's just regular vanilla with a few TBC, WLK, and Cata abilities tossed in.
0 new instances, 1 revamped raid instance (which I'll grant is kinda interesting at least the first 10 times), 0 talent changes (not even to accomodate new "rune" abilities), 0 geographical changes, 0 new flight paths, 0 profession changes (2 green tailoring patterns don't count).
They didn't even bother to upgrade the vanilla dungeon loot tables - which we all know they should. Greens dropping from bosses should be a big fat no-no. And if they want any loot at all to compete with their 1 new raid per lvling tier, they will need to rework some regular dungeon drops. Imagine not wanting to do regular Scarlet Monestary, because all the drops are outclassed by Gnomer drops...
They also can't even deal with the bots. Makes you wonder what they do :P

Tauren Mill South Shore was more iconic than STV but that died when battlegrounds came out.
I personally don't think it's going to be STV. The zone will be packed anyways. It's probably gonne be Arathi Highlands and grant rep with the Defilers/League of Arathor, just like Ashenvale was the Warsong one.
We better enjoy the journey as long as it lasts, because who knows if we ever get to play phased classic again like that. Cherish the moments, don't sweat about loots or bots or FOMO. Just do some nice stuff for others and enjoy yourselves.

Everything looks nice but if the bot/gold selling problem wont be resolved soon, the SOD future wont be bright!!! Now they also boost with fly hack
My biggest thing is damage scaling for raid bosses/mobs. Need to be more damage dished out so that we do not just run threw all this content as easy as BFD is.
SoD is awesome. My worry is actually… for the end of wrath and cata 😅
