    T3 is gold. The problem is that everyone wants a happy ending. Everyone feels entitled to a happy ending. People have forgotten how to appreciate works of art that don't feed that selfish desire.

      That ending to me has always been a favorite of mine in the Terminator franchise. A lot of times the roles we have are not by choice but because it must be……no matter how much we don’t want it. That ending has so much more meaning and weight behind it that way.

    • @markcarpenter6020
      @markcarpenter6020 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This was always the only possible ending. John's conception was part of a time loop....his existence proved it couldn't be stopped cause if it was stopped his father wouldn't be Kyle Reese.

      @@crobeastness no the plot is actually good. An anti-terminator terminator was a good idea. And even the design fits the cannon (skynet stopped using the T-1000s because they couldn't be set to read only and completely controlled). And the actors were for the most part decent. The film had 2 problems. 1 the script needed more work and 2 the director didn't respect the franchise and thought of it as a joke specially the female terminator(which comes through if you listen to the commentary). He is the reason for the attempts at humor in the movie. Honestly even without revising the script I believe this movie would have been a lot better just by having a different director.

    Remember, this movie was over a decade before Infinity War. And frankly, everyone expected it to be a re-tread, with them stopping the bad guys in the end. The fact that it takes place on Judgement Day, and they can't stop it, is what makes it such a ballsy ending and a unique addition to the franchise.
    Yes, it is dark, but any other kind of ending would just be a cop out. You can't have movie after movie where they stop Judgement Day. Otherwise you're just living in the shadows of the first two instalments. Terminator 3 dares to be different.
    And the ending, with the T-X activating the Terminator Model 1 robots and them slaughtering the scientists... the absolute chaos of that, it really raises the movie to a whole new level.
    John Connor was never destined to stop Judgement Day. He was destined to lead the Resistance to defeat Skynet, and that destiny all starts here.
    For all the flaws this movie has, I still think it is a really great entry to the franchise, and the only way they could've continued on. If you're a purist and say they should've stopped after Terminator 2, fair enough, but after they made the decision to continue the franchise, this was the best direction they could've taken the series, no doubt in my mind.

    This movie had absolutely no right, whatsoever, of giving us such a majestic ending. Probably right up there with the best of the Terminator 1 and 2.

  • @KeithDCanada
    @KeithDCanada 3 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    I loved the ending to this one....
    the first movie was about the base storyline, the way history was supposed to go as relayed to Sarah, by Reese. Nothing was changed, Sarah went into hiding and John was born as he always was in the future.
    the second movie was about John trying to alter the future, and in the process of doing so, changing aspects of the years to come, and being unsure as to what will come (Although in the special edition ending they actually say Judgement Day was stopped). At this point they have changed the future, but we don't know if mankind has been saved yet.
    this movie needed to adopt a different ending. It couldn't just replicate the second movie... trying to stop Judgement Day, and once again only managing to change some things and effectively alter the date of Judgement Day. That storyline had been done already. Either they stopped it, or succumbed to it.... there was no other option. The film studio of course would never want to end a profitable franchise like this, so I understand their decision to go forward the only way that presents an original ending the audience would never expect, and that makes 100% logical sense. John and Katherine's survival was the Terminators only mission. It completed that mission.
    I do love it when a movie, now and then, surprises it's audience by not wrapping up everything into a nice happy ending. All three movies have been telling us that fate arrives, no matter how much you try and fight it. Seeing that first spark of 'Leader' John was a perfect moment to finish on. then a monologue, much like his mother before him, looking towards to future they never wanted, but have to survive at any costs.

    • @qebron
      @qebron 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One could also argue for the fact that judgement day was NOT stopped BECAUSE they changed the future in the second movie.

      2 is still probably the best but this is not a bad movie. It's main problem was the director didn't respect the franchise or take the story seriously. • @Zomdra
    @Zomdra 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    IMO It's wrong to view the ending as any kind of cliffhanger; as the first movie established, we already _know_ the machines are eventually defeated by John Connor and the resistance, all this film really does is reset back to T1's bittersweet ending; Judgement Day happens but at least with John alive the machines will eventually be beaten. The ending _is_ still a huge downer since it means all the characters efforts in T2 to prevent Judgement Day, including T2-Arnold sacrificing himself, were all for nothing but that's honestly the part of this movie I like the most, it was incredibly gutsy to end a big blockbuster like this on such a huge, dark gut punch, especially after the whole movie up to that point is basically just a less good rehash of T2.

    • @jeepamir508
      @jeepamir508 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This movie show us the true meaning of "No fate". Cause in T2 they tried to stop Judgement Day, but T3 showed us that Judgement Day is Inevitable. It would've happened any way, sooner or later, and there's no way to stopping it. That's the meaning of this movie.
      And dam I respect it for having such balls to do it

    T3 had the best ending of the series. Bar none.
    My only real issue with 3 is that it feels short. T2 clocks in at 2 hours 17 minutes. T3, 1h 49 min. T3 needed to take its time a little more. Add a little more meat.

    • @jessemoore7081
      @jessemoore7081 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      T3 needed a shorter runtime, because a more kinetic pace lends itself to the constant need to move as chase thrillers go. Also, Judgment Day was happening that very day. It had to feel like a race against the clock. If it became some bloated two and half hour movie, then you'd feel no urgency. That's prolly the one flaw that I always felt with T2. T1 had the most perfect pace and runtime, and T3 returned to that form nicely.

      Of couse it needed a sequel. If at the end of 2 you thought that was the end, happy ending, no war... you fooled yourself. There always had to be a judgment day, a war and skynet. If there wasn't there would be no terminators to send back. No target to eliminate. No skynet. But that's just one of the many paradoxical challenges with the premise as a whole.

    Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines, showcases the scooter-like T1's, includes a brief appearance of the T-900, and the T-800 is back! Ah, whoops, I mean the T-850 (Arnold Schwarzenegger). He wears a more streamlined jacket, looks about 10 years older and briefly dons star-shaped glasses. He's stronger, can withstand heavier firepower and has a hydrogen power supply, which is prone to explosions. This machine is in charge of protecting John Connor (Nick Stahl) and his future wife from the female T-X (Kristanna Loken), whose endoskeleton is encased in liquid metal, and mostly wears a skin-tight red suit. She has an arsenal of armed weapons, can spin her head 360°, identify DNA from a sample of blood, morph into other people, and enlarge her breasts at will. But, in the end, she is no match for the T-850's power supply suicide, which allows John Connor and his wife to escape to safety as Judgement Day begins.

Then the rights of the Terminator movie were sold to someone else and they decided to make another movie which is one. So they tried to add onto the existing story but that required for them to do another going back in time story. The rights to the movie was sold several times which is why there are several movies after this. Each time the owners of The Terminator title wanted to make a movie to make money.

    I really like the story and continuation of the series but it’s just wasn’t executed properly and the humor wasn’t handled the way it should’ve. However everything in the story was on point for me, skynets mission of taking out the resistance leaders and the bleak ending. If only Cameron and Furlong would’ve come back.

      The problem with the movie was the director. He considered the franchise something like kids movies (and beneath him) and he considered the T-X a joke and treated it like one in the movie instead of trying to make it truly intimidating.

      Unfortunately, you can't always control the actions of others who have different priorities from you and are unable to see past their own selfish ambitions, either. 🤷‍♂️
      But therein lies the #1 mystery of time travel: can you actually change the future via the past, à la "Back to the Future," or is it 'whatever happened, happened,' à la _Lost_ and Harry Potter 3? We'll never know for sure how it would actually work.

    I honestly enjoy the movie aside from few issues i personally have. I guess one of the main issues is this movie feels is a straight tv or dvd instead a theatrical one. But it is intertaining! Sure it was a grab cash one... but the final message is nice. No matter what the heros do, they cannot change the future. They have to accept their destiny... Also it does expande the terminator universe, which sadly gives us Salvation and Genesis (which the idea was interesting but bad explore)

  • @MrSmithla

    There is a continuity error between this one and T2. In T2 Arnold clearly states that Skynet becomes self-aware at, like, 2:18am. Kyle Reese says, “The system decided our fate in a millisecond.” T2 also mentions, though this movie has no references at all to dates, that the system becomes aware August 29th. This movie could take place August 29 but none of this is at 2:00am. However, John is aware of that date and would very likely have that be a huge red-letter day on his calendar. The whole bit about T-X being able to control machines, from her end, is, I suppose fine. The problem is that there’s no mechanism on vehicles from that era allowing for that control and even less on our nuclear missiles which still run on old fashioned DOS disks, for goodness sakes. One argument against their modernization, besides being vulnerable while offline to upgrade, is that every missile, so far, that you might be unfortunate to witness, signaling the end of the world as it does, you can be sure that two humans agreed to launch each and every one.

  • @LThompson59
    @LThompson59 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The bots the T-X takes over with the mini guns attached, were autonomous, very basic AI but they genuinely weren't remote controlled.
    The next one, is nothing to do with this one, completely different & followes older John after the war started.

    Hey, so after Terminator 2 came out, a trilogy of books came out, The T2 Infiltrator series. I HIGHLY recommend. They were written prior to the T3 movie. There are a couple of other book series that also continue directly from T2, but I haven't read those other ones yet (but I do have the books). Also, there is the tv show that was unfortunately cancelled after 2 seasons, The Sarah Connor Chronicles. That tv series came out after T3 the movie, but it ignores anything that happened after T2, and starts it's own story from there on. I absolutely love TSCC, as well as T2 Infiltrator. This movie, T3, is probably my favourite terminator movie after 1/2... It was just like a really fun summer blockbuster type action flick for me, and because of my terminator love, that novelty helped it. But it's certainly not on the same calibre at all of 1 & 2.

    if you want a tv show to watch. Watch Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Best written Terminator since T2, and hasn't been beaten since. Only lasted two seasons, got canceled to make way for Terminator Salvation. Least that's what people said at the time. It's Fox, so, yeah. Always cancelling great shows too soon. Lena Headey from Game of Thrones as Sarah Connor. And she is fantastic in the role.

    Just an interesting tidbit of trivia here, while the Terminator is still the T-101 model (Schwarzenegger) the series is actually a T-850 which is stronger and more durable than it's T-800 predecessor. Skynet developed the 850 series with increased resistance against plasma weaponry that had been salvaged by the Resistance. The T-X, does sometimes see a bit overpowered, because barely anything even slows her down. I liked that this film ended the way it did, because ultimately it gave John and Kate purpose and needed to happen because without J-Day, no Kyle Reese gets sent back in time and this version of John Connor would become a paradox. It also feels like the only way humanity would learn from it's mistakes. I know in the original Kyle tells Silberman (surprised you didn't include his cameo) that the Resistance had pretty much won which is why Skynet implemented it's fail-safe of sending a T-800 back to 1984, but I'm not sure if in this secondary timeline that started back when the first Terminator arrived in 1984 that this would still be the case. The T-850 tells John in this one as well the date he was terminated (2032 if not mistaken) which could help John avoid it if he had knowledge of when it was going to happen.

    kristanna loken, such a good actress, (and so s'xy, damnnn that backside, lol), she greatly respected the terminator franchise, insisting to do the staple time-travel naked scene (as they said she didn't have to do it: they'd find a way to censor/cgi it in, so she didn't have to get naked and be seen on screen naked), and plays the role of the "bad guy" terminator the best out of all of the terminator movies, including being the most hardcore/intense character-playing-acting as well too, and also, she plays the "robotic machine" even better than arnold himself, really a good actress, sighs
    (got to see 'ring of the nibelungs / US: dark kingdom', as she plays brunhilde, so s'xy and bad'ss, with really good fight choreography too)

    I like this movie, many seem to really disagree. The ending is kind of a letdown for some. But you cant always have a happy ending. The scene with her remote controlling the cars is one of the weaker points. There is no logic to her being able to fully operate cars of that time. In theory, you could start and accelerate the cars but Someone HAS to steer.

    😂I think I'm just bothering you at this point, with all the comments, but I can't hold this in, the T-1000 aren't like the other Terminators, they can't be fully controlled, so they have a chance of turning on skynet, so that's why skynet stop making them and instead made a hybrid with the outer shell made of the liquid metal, and the skeleton of an ordinary terminator, that way it can be controlled and it's ability to learn to be limited, skynet won't risk the T-1000 turning on them, they are too powerful even for skynet😂

    • @juanausensi499
      @juanausensi499 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that's the 'official' explanation, but is still a silly one. First, Skynet is launching terminators to the past as a last resort tactic, so a terminator turning against her is a risk that she must take, the other option is oblivion. Second, every terminator is susceptible to turn against her, not just t1000's. They can be reprogrammed, and the movies give us various examples of that. I don't see any reason why a TX can't be reprogrammed. Third, no single terminator is too powerful for skynet, she makes them like popcorn. Defectors will always be in numerical disadvantage. Also, she has no central core, so she is unbeatable by force alone.

    • @jamaul1391
      @jamaul1391 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juanausensi499 I know this is late but he's every terminator can turn on skynet, that's why they all have a learning limiter, we saw it in T-2 where Arnie said that skynet keeps tabs on them so they won't learn too much, the T-1000 is liquid metal so I doesn't have the limiter, only it's original programming, so it can and will turn on skynet
