Randy Rhoads passed on my 22nd birthday, almost 10 months to the day after I saw him perform with Ozzy at the Springfield Civic Center, so this clip is nearly 42 years old.
No one in the audience got the joke when Ozzy mentioned he was a little bit "peckish" he was always way smarter than the audience gave him credit for. SHARON!
I think all of us that are regulars here think the same thing when a celebrity appears as the new video. 🙂 Whoever is responsible for posting the videos is certainly good at getting those memorial videos up quickly. They seem to post as soon as the announcement is made public.
I’ve been reading Ozzy’s book, and he said that he was upset being asked about the bat and having to joke around just a week after the loss of Randy and Rachel. It’s crazy he even went on the show.
Man Ozzy really was and is more intelligent than everyone gives him credit for. He's a man that let himself become a slave to his vices. Hearing him talk about the regret of the 80s and 90s flashing by is a sad thing.
Osbourne is sedated here...hes badly shaken as Rhoads had just got killed 6 days earlier,,and his funeral was the day before this show. Surprised he went ahead and did this show, ...quite sure Sharon was behind the decison...
Poor Randy…what a remarkable guitarist, perhaps second only to Eddie Van Halen in terms of the hotshot young guitarists of that era. I wish we could have watched his growth through the ‘80s and ‘90s.
Ozzie possesses a charmingly dry wit. Early Dave had a rough time navigating it. Later Dave would have embraced it and gone with the flow. Interesting nonetheless.
I ran into a homeless guy one time who was completly convinced that he was the one who bit the head off the bat at that ozzy concert and that there was a big conspiracy to make it seem like it was ozzy who did it. Multiple people told me that he was obsessed with the bat biting ozzy story. It consumed his life.
WOW ... 40 YES AGO AND TWO YEARS😢 Quite honestly, and possibly the greatest of times in America what's the absolute most freedom and expression of music. Those who could not experience at that, really have no understanding.
Just like the Kennedy Assassination to my parents, I know exactly where I was when I heard that this happened. I was in the parking lot of the 7-11 at Wattles and John R Roads in Troy, Michigan. I had cut class from high school because I needed a Mountain Dew Big Gulp to deal with my hangover.
This goes to show that Randy was just a hired gun as far the Osbourne's were concerned. This was less than a week after Randy died and the day after his funeral. And the tour resumed a week later. All these years later the Osbourne's have re-released Randy's live shows many times, and they still sell memorabilia with Randy's image, yet nothing goes to Randy's estate. Not to mention how they screwed Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake.
Letterman can’t deal with Ozzy here. Very typical dry British humour. I think an older Letterman would have found him funny but he seems genuinely scared by Ozzy here, he’s taking him so so seriously 🤣🤣🤣 he’s just a wild rock n roll star, not Ted Bundy.
Most of what he says here is satire and clearly joking. If you’re taking it all literally you have issues lol. And no, I’ll never read whatever the fk you reply 😂🎉
I believe Michael J. Fox said something to the effect that Parkinson's is hell to deal with. Yet another great entertainer struck down with that mess. @@papasmamas1
@@papasmamas1according to Ozzy on their podcast, the Parkinsons isn't the big problem, it's the botched neck surgery that caused his current condition.
never watching anything to do with letterman again, as a matter of general principle, the man has crossed a line here, and this, THIS, is something irredeemable. Edit : this was my initial reaction, and reason behind it. "Ozzy Osbourne, in the last 6 days before this interview witnessed his closest friends life end brutally at the hands of a mad pilot, spent hours bawling his eyes out in a church looking for an explanation for his loss, buried the beyond recognotion burnt and shredded remains of that friend just a day before, and still had the grace to hold up his side of the arrangement which he didnt need to, and david letterman, has the audacity along with his sheepish crowd, to use this opportunity to be used for mockery and whatever TF this interview was? Madman? Eating bat heads? Pigeon heads? THE MAN IS GRIEVING, AND STILL COMES TO YOUR FAKENESS, AND YOU DONT HAVE THE HUMANITY TO WEIGH IN HIS TRAGEDY AND FOR ONCE, BE GENUINE AND HAVE A HUMBLING CONVERSATION ABOUT THE LIFE THE MAN IS GRIEVING?!!" and come to think of it, Randy Rhoades was not just his friend, his death was a loss to the the entire music and entertainment industry, it was a loss of a musical genius, and an inspiration to many young guitarists. so, its every humans right to boycott letterman, you can join me if your conscience finds it equally disturbing.

This interview had a bit of everything in it: comedy, tragedy, gore, and resilience, all rolled into one!
RIP Randy Rhoads.

Had to check myself.
My heart was in my throat.
The bat? Who knows

Two entertainment giants on one stage at a tragic time. Thanks for sharing.
All of these clips are great.Crazy to see a young ozzy right after that tragedy
The plane crash happened less than a week prior to this...RocknRoll will never die
R I P Randy Rhoads🖤
R.I.P.

Randy was second to nobody.

Maybe it's me being drunk but he seems very sane in this
I had to check but ol’ Oz is still kicking at 75.
Ozzie possesses a charmingly dry wit. Early Dave had a rough time navigating it. Later Dave would have embraced it and gone with the flow. Interesting nonetheless.
Crazy Randy passed just a week before this, ozzy still in shock you can tell
That's nothing, I once saw a guy take a bite out of a charcoal briquette

Sounds like David got a little scared when Ozzy said “let’s have a look at your neck” for the second time💀
I LOVE YOU OZZY

Never seen Dave so bothered.
Rest in peace Rachel and Randy rhoads
Seems a little awkward that Dave brought up the "tragedy" but didn't mention Randy or Rachel's name --- kinda rude
Cool man 😂 the dear guest 😂😂❤❤❤❤

Not too long after Randy 😢
Good . Dave as a child 😂😂😂❤❤❤ hiiii
Wow! Ozzy Osbourne is insane. I'm glad that Dave interviewed him in 1982. Now, the world knows how crazy Ozzy is.
He entertains generations with his proclivities….

God Bless Randy Rhoads.
The real story is, they didn’t pay the bat….🦇
U wanna tell me that the plane crash happened less than a week before this interview?
After being married to Sharon, Ozzie would be used to chewing on an old bat.
He's alive at the moment. But how is he doing?
Not so good, so many health issues.
He has Parkinson, last interview I saw he shakes a lot, and his voice is so fragil. Hes mind still there, but Parkinson is hell of a desease

This was 47 years ago add his age here to 47
How about 41 years ago?
I’m 45 , born in 1978. There’s no way a video from the 80’s is older than I am. And Ozzy is 75 years old.
You’re really bad at math.
