Sheer Force making Life Orb not dealing the user damage absolutely HAD to be a glitch that Game Freak didn't notice/couldn't fix and it became a feature instead of a bug in later gens
I don't think so bc they programmed it so the user doesn't get life orb recoil only on moves that have an added effect. If you use it with for example Pound you actually get some recoil damage.
@@jeroenvdw No, he was correct it was a glitch originally, the Life Orb's damage is processed in the same routine where secondary effects are and thus gets skipped if the move has a secondary effect. It's also not the only item whose effects get negated by Sheer Force; the Shell Bell can't heal a Pokémon with Sheer Force when it uses a move with a secondary effect, and it will prevent the activation of the target's held Red Card, Eject Button, Kee Berry, or Maranga Berry. It also prevents the abilities Wimp Out, Emergency Exit, Pickpocket, Color Change, Berserk, and Anger Shell from activating.
The OG Pokemon holding their own in this new meta is absolutely inspiring. And speaking from my very limited experience, making these guys work is not easy, awesome work Haydunn!
Seeing those cheeks back then made me think what was the sprite designers are thinking lol, most gen 3 sprites are just enhanced version of gen 2 sprites but feraligatr has a complete new one lol
Feraligatr isn’t really an alligator. It has a V-shaped snout and you can see teeth from both jaws when it’s mouth is shut. Both are traits of a crocodile. That’s also why I named mine Feralodile.
Honestly major props to your second opponent for dealing with the Gourging Fire with T-Wave and Scary Face. Luxray stared certain death right in the face but it pulled through. That aside: Super happy to see Feraligatr clean house. One of my favorite mons and my first starter in all of Pokémon. Also dude, your intro using the moving white background and the gen 2 sprite is SO fucking cool to look at!!
I'd just like to point out that I'm not a huge competitive player, but you explaining your strat and the Pokemon you're playing around has instantly made me a better player. Your video format is very unique and it's one of the sole reasons I'm still here. Thank you for leveling me up!
I was 8 years old when Silver and Gold came out, and I picked totodile, because the playground lore was that he was going to be “water charizard” which I thought was dope, to this day, my lvl 100 feraligatr is the best Pokémon I ever played with, he could one hit EVERY SINGLE MON in the elite 4, so it made training little mons super easy, he was like the “papa mon” of the party. I lost him to a dead cartridge battery sadly after dropping my game boy in a toilet, which, it still worked, but not long after, I lost my save.
I haven't used Feraligatr since Silver but these buffs are really interesting. Love seeing you demonstrate the potential of old and semi-forgotten 'mons!
What "buffs"? He got Flip Turn and Scale Shot, both moves that Feraligatr is probably never, ever going to use. Neither of the moves were even showcased in the video
Rampardos can also do Sheer Force pretty well with its huge Attack stat. Has a decent physical move pool you can use. Can even run special moves as a joke.
I always enjoyed Gatr back in Sun/Moon. A lot of my friends hated this mon, but whats not to love? Feraligatr Life Orb Sheer Force 252Atk / 252Spe / 4Hp Ice Punch Waterfall Crunch Dragon Dance Great video Haydunn! I need to shiny hunt for a Totodile to raise another monster!
If I had a nickel for every time a Hayden battle started with Golurk removing Gliscor's toxic orb by trick, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
I think sheer force boosts the power of moves before STAB. And life orb boosts moves after STAB, but putting them both together without the fear of losing HP is great.
@@r_stair it should be called death or leach orb. Life orb means it gives you life. Btw if you didn't get it, I was being sarcastic in my first comment, everyone knows what it does

I remember as a kid nicknaming my Haxorus Haydunn because I was such a fan back in the day. Cool to see you doing a video on my favourite boy Feraligatr now who I've got tattoo'd on my leg.

My favorite starter Pokemon is back and he also looks so good in this gen. Very happy he is seemingly doing good, considering he isn't min-maxed like newer starters.
So glad they continued to not limit pokemon to only battles. We can wander with them. Feraligatr looks do good. I am also looking at lombre which seems like kecleon for me with the crazy good TM move pool.
Metal Claw would be a good move to have on Feraligatr as well, considering that it also has a secondary effect in that it has a small chance to raise your Attack.
hitmonlee can be good against opponents who know nothing about it. if you use endure to drop it to 1hp it can eat liechi berry which gives it +1 attack and activate unburder ability that doubles its speed. also the reversal becomes a 200 base power fighting type nuke.
So in that first match, I noticed that Gliscor changed moves from Toxic to Knock Off after being given the Choice Band which I guess means that you are only locked in after being given the item. I just learned this today and also it meant that Snorlax in the second game could have stayed in and would have been at +6 with a choice band and would have shredded your team.
Nah, the gliscor was faster and used toxic before it got the choice band, so it got to choose a move to lock itself into. Snorlax was tricked the choice band BEFORE clicking belly drum so it was stuck in that
The most common set seems to be Modest, 252 HP, 252 Sp Att, Assault Vest, any grass move, Fickle Beam, Earth Power, fourth coverage attack You could also go Quiet, 252 Sp Att, 252 Sp Def, Leftovers, and run it in a Trick Room team with Nasty Plot or Recover. It's a surprisingly strong and varied Pokemon. There's even a set in Doubles to skill swap Contrary onto it with Leaf Storm and Draco Meteor and get double evasion reduction with Supersweet Syrup.
I transferred a really low cp Feraligator from Pokemon Go into Home, and it was lvl 1; which is really funny. Todadile was also my first ever pokemon, so I'm actually pretty happy with it :)

@firepuppies4086 In cases like that, then choice specs would be a better option. You still risk being stuck taunted, attempting trick with a choice band.

Sheer Force on Gatr is so clutch, I am happy to be able to run it again on the gen 2 team. Combined with the Hisuian Typhlosion, it’s a pretty solid team if I do say so myself.
That's why he's running Liquidation. It works for Crunch too because it has a 20% chance of lowering target defense, so he trades that for extra damage with Sheer Force
