    Do you know what tip openings he's using on them?

    Hi Lorenzo. Thanks for the comparison. Does Syos have any medium-small or small chamber mouthpiece? I'm looking for a focused tone sort of soloist long shank kind of tone. Thank you.

      Hi Arya, yes we do have some small chambers. Actually, Lorenzo's signature mouthpiece on tenor has a small chamber. It gives a nice dark but focused sound. On alto you have the Foolish Frankie's signature mouthpiece with a small chamber, it's quite bright and powerful. You can also go for a custom one if you want :)

    Lorenzo Ferrero! My father - Ted Efantis, was the best jazz saxophonist that you never heard. I am his oldest son, and I cannot tell you how many hours I spent helping my dad pick his sound - the “Ted Efantis sound.” He played primarily on metal Otto Links and rubber Brilharts. I am (pardon the pun) blown away by watching this video, and I can tell you right now that I am suddenly a huge fan of yours. And, if you ever come to Washington, DC, I want to be there! Not only is your unique sound on the tenor and alto so reminiscent of my dad, but your melodic line is almost hauntingly “Dadlike” to me. You, sir, get it as far as being a bebopper is concerned, and personally discovering you this morning has made my day! Bravo, and thank you.
    Oh, and by the way, if you’d like my “expert opinion,” as a person who has probably listened to more mouthpiece nuances on the sax than anyone who never played the instrument, I fell immediately in love with the blue one on the tenor, but after I heard what you could do with the orange one, keeping that lower register full, I can understand why you’ve been leaning toward that one. That mouthpiece has uncanny versatility for your masterful skill set. On the alto, I dig the purple one most. I feel like the red one is a little thin in the lowest register of the instrument, and the light blue one makes me think that I’m listening to a tenor player play alto. You share another amazing quality with my father: If I only heard you play alto, I’d swear you were an alto player, but hearing you play tenor I KNOW you’re a tenor man through and through!

    greetings Lorenzo! I just received your signature SYOS MP for my alto, and can you help? The nice SYOS folks recommended your model to me as I had asked for something to give me a darker full-bodied sound to pair with my Plasticover reeds which I've always used because I'm a doubler who can't usually keep a normal reed consistently wet enough while switching between sax/flugelhorn/flute/vocals, and sometimes also congas. I use Plasticover 2.5s and your model is the 7*. In the past I used Otto Link and Everton 7's also, hard rubber models. Problem is, I can't seem to get any decent altissimo with your SYOS MP, even though the tone is really nice and dark! I had the same issue with another new mouthpiece, 3D printed from Windy City Winds. In general, is it the tip opening, baffle, or ?? that I need to change for altissimo? Seems I'm sacrificing altissimo for darker tone, is that logical? Also, both the SYOS and Windy City Winds 3d-printed mouthpieces are larger and with longer beaks than other "jazz" models I've used, more like "classical" mouthpieces, is this true? THANKS Lorenzo!

      Hi Ron, a short facing will help for the altissimo. And most of the classical mouthpieces have short facings, whereas here with Lorenzo's model, the facing is a little bit longer that's why it's more difficult. But you should be able to get an altissimo from that mouthpiece. I just forwarded your message to Lorenzo, let's see what he will say.

      Hi Ron! Here is Lorenzo's answer:
      -Try harder reeds. I use between 2 and 2.5 on a 9* mouthpiece, so maybe try a size 3 or even 3.5 for your 7*.
      The altissimo gets very hard if you have a soft reed, specially with this MP, so try balancing that out.
      -Darker mouthpieces sometimes require you to tighten up your embouchure a little more on the altissimos, since they don’t respond as fast as the brighter mouthpiece.

    Nice sound and nice playing but you don't mention what mp facing you're using, ligature type or reed selection/strength and why don't you answer anyone's questions?

    • @Syosmusic
      @Syosmusic  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Lorenzo uses a Syos ligature on all the mouthpieces. He uses Boston Sax Shop reeds 2.5 on both alto and tenor.

    • @Syosmusic
      @Syosmusic  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Facing is 24mm on alto and 26mm on tenor. And this video has been uploaded on Syos TH-cam page, so Lorenzo doesn't see your comments, that's why I'm the one answering all the questions.
