Or at the very least demonstrating his incredible skills, as he did when showcasing his speed to Tien during their second fight at the World Martial Arts Tournament.
+ThePaleSamurai i know that its mercenary tao, but in some of the video games he's known as GENERAL tao. I think it might have something to to with the red ribbon army cause you know how the R.R army had all the generals? (general Blue, violet, silver, etc) since tao was working for red ribbon at the time it must have referred to him as general, or something like that.
1:01 it’s crazy how so many poses from DBZ have been used initially in DB. That stand may seem simple but it got used in Super (manga as well) collectively 3 times
This was a big part of the early dragonball story. Tao is often considered Dragonball's first super villain. Jackie Chun (Roshi) was Goku's first powerful opponent, Krillin was his first rival, Yamcha was his first true martial arts fight, and Pilaf was his first enemy. However, Tao was the first truly evil opponent who succeeded in killing one of Goku's friends and whose power was so great that Goku needed to break his limits in order to defeat him. Goku broke his limits (sort of) only once before this during his basic strength training with Roshi. This was the first time Goku had to break his limit specifically to defeat one foe or die trying.
From the original DB, all the way to Super, I don't think there's a single moment in all of the Dragonball franchise as priceless as Tao's face just before he gets blown up. I can't get enough of it. LOL!
It's funny that Tao is one of the few villains to actually survive his encounters. He even met teenage Gohan once before leaving. I wonder if he'll make a DBS appearance.
He'll probably not appear again. Toriyama said in Dragon Ball Forever that both Tao and Tsuru-sen'nin are dead. Knowing Toriyama though, he may forget he said that and end up including them in Super.
Even though Goku becomes a Universal+ badass as an adult, you almost forget that he has a bunch of those badass moments as a child too, this one being no exception.
Crazy how in Dragonball there was no universal destruction or transformations but the action felt like it was on a grander scale because of how grounded everything else was.
Jason Darkflame It was at that moment that the killer for hire knew he was dead as a robot. One more cybornetically augmented body replacement and he gets a free toaster.
Real talk: The force it would take to kick the grenade that high would either cause it to explode instantly or damage it so much that it would no longer be functional.
The grenade clearly had a high concussion Force as it was shaking trees from multiple feet away. With that in mind it can also have a higher strength casing also tao was only a few stories in the air

Anyone realize this is similar to how Goku defeated Frieza? The enemy fake-surrenders, Goku lets down his guard, and then the enemy tries to kill him again but Goku coutnerattacks, resulting in the enemy nearly dying but being reborn into a cyborg, only to then be effortlessly defeated by a side character later in the series
Well Upa did yell "IT'S A BOMB!" as Tao threw it, and Goku does know what a bomb is at least, so his instinct to get it away from them asap was to be expected at this point.
To be fair, it wasn't technically a power-up. Goku was learning about anticipation and reading your opponent's actions. Remember when technique was the other half of powering up...you know, back when the only transformation was a giant monkey?
Tao and freeza are similar, after humilliating goku, the get beaten up,after asking for mercy, they try to stab goku in the back, only to get almost disentagrated by goku, just to half survive and come back as a cyborg to get revenge of goku, just so they get beaten by someone else before they can fight goku.

They certainly help Goku too but the key difference is that he also would never rely solely on that to get stronger even if he had known about it when he was a kid. That’s why he pulled ahead of Vegeta.

This was actually one of the funniest deaths in Dragon Ball, ever! His expression as he's getting blown away, and as the bomb gets really close to him is HILARIOUS!!
?? ? DO YOU MEAN CANON? BECAUSE CANNONS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE TOURNAMENTS.
i love those getting blown away faces. wide ass mouth lol, kid buu also had a funny one. and who could forget friezas
Getting rebuilt because ur so injured and changes your body completely I call that death plus he got one shooted by tien shin han so does it matter if he came back
Nappa💀
@@Chris_HTI was about to mention him too. The exact same expression Nappa had on his face when he was being blown away
when Makafushigi Adventure starts playing, you know Goku's laying down a beat down
opponent : *chuckles* i’m In danger
Or at the very least demonstrating his incredible skills, as he did when showcasing his speed to Tien during their second fight at the World Martial Arts Tournament.
To think that this adorable little kid would one day grow up to be pretty much a God of War so to speak..
Its Mercenary Tao and will always be Mercenary Tao, people who call him General Tao must have not watched Dragonball.
+SUPER GAMER GUIDER Ya I see what you are saying but he was never part of the Red Ribbon Army just a hired mercenary to get the Dragon Balls.
***** thats what im saying he never was but thats probably WHY they call him that in the games
+SUPER GAMER GUIDER I think the reason why Toriyama started calling him a general in DBZ was to fit Dr. Gero because he was not in Dragonball.
***** what do you mean?
1:01 it’s crazy how so many poses from DBZ have been used initially in DB. That stand may seem simple but it got used in Super (manga as well) collectively 3 times
It's a classic Chinese kung fu pose
It's cool in GT how Upa made an appearance, when he met Goku as an adult. That was a wholesome scene.
"bakooom" was the first thing I noticed at the end.
This theme is the most uplifting thing ever in the history of TV!

"He's gone!"
"And horribly disfigured! Yeah! Yeah!"
Bro I started og Dragon Ball a few months ago, and this fight had me DYING
Bihte Stuff He met Kid Gohan (as in, by his actual age, not the video game name he got), and that was filler.
Seeing Tao in DBS would be great. With how the power scales in that show, he'd probably be as strong as Cell by now.
Even though Goku becomes a Universal+ badass as an adult, you almost forget that he has a bunch of those badass moments as a child too, this one being no exception.
I get chills when watching this, the music is brillient! Goes so well with Goku finally overpowering Tao. Best scene.
Anyone else Notice the explosion say “BAKOOOM” instead of “KABOOOM”
Lol just made a comment saying the same thing before I saw this 😂 translation error
Yep
Yeah lol. I thought it was funny
Dokkan vibes
Its obviously so they could avoid Copyright
Alright...2:25... who taught mercenary Toa the substitution jutsu?
What makes you think any show can be unrealistic enough to have Jutsu to turn into fucking literally, w o o d
th-cam.com/video/qniKdqsu1bs/w-d-xo.html
That’s one powerful grenade it blew the trees back
Crazy how in Dragonball there was no universal destruction or transformations but the action felt like it was on a grander scale because of how grounded everything else was.
Anime Protagonists: “THE WAY YOU BREATHE WILL BE YOUR UNDOING”
One of my favorite action scenes in the series, something about the way Goku moves in this fight is so satisfying
Tao was the first villain that outclassed goku flawlessly but goku always comes back stronger
i love taos wile e coyote-ish "oh shit" expression right when the granade pops up next to him. best moment ever.
2:09 it was at that moment Tao knew, that he'd fucked up.
Jason Darkflame It was at that moment that the killer for hire knew he was dead as a robot.
One more cybornetically augmented body replacement and he gets a free toaster.
I like how goku does the same attack to cell as he did to Tao
Gabriel Garcia but Goku died the second time lol
I love how the explosion is spelled "Bakoom!" instead of the usual "Kaboom!". Gotta love Toriyama's wordplay.
I love the Dragonball story when he was a little kid
Damn what kind of grenade was that? A mini nuke? It was blowing the trees back and everything. 😮
Real talk:
The force it would take to kick the grenade that high would either cause it to explode instantly or damage it so much that it would no longer be functional.
The grenade clearly had a high concussion Force as it was shaking trees from multiple feet away. With that in mind it can also have a higher strength casing also tao was only a few stories in the air
This guy actually has the best transportation method in all anime.
1:15
General Tao pulls a Dr. Wily....😂
Mercenary Tao:
The inspiration behind Lau
Chan from Virtua Fighter.
Present Goku: One flick, Tao is vaporized!!
Goku: your breathing gives away your next move
Darth vader:………shit
Ever realize that every time a bomb is thrown at Goku he always kicks it back
Also happened with the missile thrown by general black
Anyone here after the new LR mercenary Tao animations dropped for dokkan.
Me
2:26 Tao with that Substitution Jutsu👀👀
To think this little grows up to have strength of angels and gods.
1:38 "Oh yeah, he only murdered my father in cold blood and scarred me for life but sure sure, let's let the psychopath live and wait for him to kill us all"
Kid Goku may have a high kill count but all of those kills were earned and none of them were forced every single person had a chance to walk away
@@ilyte1 are you forgetting tambourine
He should consider himself lucky that there was no moon after jackie chun obliterated it otherwise he would get cooked by Great Ape Goku, HARD!
even in 2021 this fight still gives me chills everytime love it one of my fav moments. Love how master Roshi's first lesson to goku is not to drop his guard a lesson he never learns even in super pretty sure roshi even quotes in one of the OG dragon ball episodes i believe when hes fighting him in the first tournament " that boy ive told him once if not a thousand times not to let his guard down" maybe in the new super episodes goku will finally learn it xD ive always preferred the original dragon ball to the rest love goku as a kid adorable back when stupid power levels where not a thing, feel power levels ruined alot specially after freiza like whats his power now off the scale for sure in super, they missed a opportunity to split power levels in super and have normal power level, and divine power level that way beerus could be 1000 divine power level without having there insane numbers that are way off the scale heck maybe even angelic power levels for angels uh well
Goku: *Spared Tao*
*Many, MANY years later*
Tao: “Hey kid, what’s your name?”
SSJ Gohan: “It’s Gohan!”
Tao: “That’s a relief, you remind me of a kid named Goku”
SSJ Gohan: “Close enough, He’s my dad”
Tao: “WHAT”
*Tao has traumatic flashbacks*
Anyone realize this is similar to how Goku defeated Frieza? The enemy fake-surrenders, Goku lets down his guard, and then the enemy tries to kill him again but Goku coutnerattacks, resulting in the enemy nearly dying but being reborn into a cyborg, only to then be effortlessly defeated by a side character later in the series
Damn bro you're like 20 years late.
What i found interesting is how before Tao was a serious killer with no face fault but the moment Goku bested him, he transformed into comedic villain
0:46 ULTRA INSTINCT GOKU POSE!!
"I can't surrender to a child, I could never look at myself in the mirror again, think of the shame!" Dude, its gonna be a lot worse than that.
Apparently, Goku doesn't have a left nipple.
sega64guy you pervert
Zeno - Sama he’s not being perverted smart one
sega64guy no
Why did I laugh so hard at this😂
He doesn't have any as a kid.
Kid Goku is so innocent and naive. It's fun to watch the progression
goku: leave
tao: ok ill leave
goku: hmm, should we let him leave?
Goku used to be a real savage he just laughed after “killing” Tao:)
0:16 Is that the slap technique Goku later uses on Frieza?
Freezer stole a lot of s*** from tao
I think it's funny how Goku chose the best response without knowing what a grenade was lol
Well Upa did yell "IT'S A BOMB!" as Tao threw it, and Goku does know what a bomb is at least, so his instinct to get it away from them asap was to be expected at this point.
2:07 That moment when you know you done totally f'd up!
The very first time Goku used the Moving After Image Technique
counts as self destruction, death by his own attack, yes throwing a nade is an attack lol.
It's pretty dope how despite almost murdering him, Goku was happy to see him in Z and even dabs him up
I mean he was alive in the vs tien fight.
Back then when dragon ball was actually actually an martial art anime.
I remember seeing this when it first aired on Toonami- it was a really epic moment.
remember when we thought goku's power up after training with Korin only to realize it was his Saiyan biology
To be fair, it wasn't technically a power-up. Goku was learning about anticipation and reading your opponent's actions.
Remember when technique was the other half of powering up...you know, back when the only transformation was a giant monkey?
Kid goku an absolute unit just standing there…
Menacingly!
This is easily the most flashbacked-to moment in the entire Dragon Ball series.
I love the look on his face at 2:08.
It was that moment he realised he fucked up.
This is my favorite Dragonball.
The amount they replay this scene in the entire series is hilarious
0:10 his eye puples get bigger
He took his head off though for it to need rebuilding, I'm pretty sure he was just reconstructed as an android and not a Cyborg.
0:14 my favorite moment of dragon ball (besides when Goku stuck his power pole up the messenger of death)
Guess in Japanese it's "bakooooom" and not "kaboom"
When goku threw them haymakers it reminded me of broly hitting frieza
That wouldn't be the first person he accidentally kills.... too soon?
Jorge Flores that wasn’t the first person he killed. this was in episode 60 something. He killed some other living creatures (not just humans, monsters and stuff) and one robot before them
Tao isn't dead he became a cyborg.
@@FourYshadowI6004 he was so damaged that conventional medicine couldn't have brought him back
The theme is so refreshing, actually kind of makes you happy.
Best part of Dragon Ball hands down. Tao thinks he is tough shit until Goku returned from Karin Tower because he just got done finishing his training. Goku kicked Tao's ass. Good old memories.
"I could've sworn there was 2 of them pounding me. It was like pair of tornadoes." 😂
