I'm probably going to sound like a dork for saying this. But given the form of the Australian teams in Super Rugby, under a coach that actually gives a damn. I believe this is the start of Australia's rise back as a serious contender. With the British and Irish lions coming next year, and the World Cup in Australia in 2027. This team has something to play for.
But more importantly, with the Melbourne Rebels leaving Super Rugby, a lot of those players will be condensed into the remaining teams, which I believe is good for Australian rugby overall.

I agree, a vague comparable is England. 3 clubs went bankrupt, but the talent was consolidated and filtered in, making 8 of the 10 teams (barring Gloucester and Newcastle) actually stronger, resulting in a much more competitive Premiership. From what I understand, Union isn't popular bar NSW or Queensland. I imagine the Reds and NSW will capture some Rebels like Tupou, LSL, Daugunu and Kellaway, improving the club sides and hopefully the Wallabies

That’s was I was trying to say about the wallabies. They have really strong players but their coaching direction has been crap. Now they have an experienced coaching leader as in Schmidt. He has an outstanding resume. He lead Ireland to 3 successful Six Nations Championships. Also managing in beating top teams while under his guidance against All Blacks and the Boks. So I woundn’t be surprised if they turn their form around and start with a win in this new era of rugby for them.

I don’t agree with the rebels assessment. Those players won’t want to be on someone else’s bench, so many will go offshore or to league. Up and coming players will do the math and recognise that union contracts have dropped by 20% and drift to league before we even hear of them.

This could end up being the most exciting game of the lot - in terms of being high scoring. Nothing to lose, everything to prove and due to awful management - players get free roam. 🤷‍♂️

Josh Hathaway was born and brought up in Wales, but like so many young Welsh players was poached by the English scholarship programme. Unlike Feyi Waboso, he actually plumped to play for the country of his birth and upbringing as a pose to his adopted one.

As an SA fan, I feel for Aus supporters. It was very strange seeing the Aus line up and recognizing hardly any of them, as I''m accustomed to seeing world class legends in your side. Having said this, I'd like to think that you have the talent and a very effective coach in hand. I suspect you'll be back to the top levels sooner than most expect. Personally, I expect you to push through for a clean slate win over Wales in this series. Close at times, but I believe you have enough to win the series, which would be a perfect start to Aus recovering from the Indiana "Jones" jaunt last year.

It makes sense to pick a player on form. That was the exact problem with Australian rugby: it had too many coaches that would reward underperforming players throughout the Super Rugby season with an automatic Wallabies selection. And, what i like: actually picking a player in HIS POSITION. i really dislike selecting players out of position just to get them on the field, no matter the form. Kellaway is a fullback and would be better utilised on the bench as outside backs cover. Tom Wright deserved his spot as he has been fine!
Taniela Tupou has me worried as he seems to be injured all of the time. Being big is good, but you need to be able to handle 60mins as a starter...

Agree with your comments on the respective unions Both the AR U and WRU have made some horrendous decisions based on hubris more than anything else With both believing they have greater depth than they actually have As for the actual teams i again have to agree with you on what Warren Gatland looks to be doing His using the 6Ns and Summer matches to actually look at all the young Welsh talent he can Then come the Autumn series i can see him then start assembling a real squad Mainly because he will have access to alot more tested players like G.Anscombe ,C,Sheedy N.Smith, and the injured players like J.Morgon ,H.Thomas ect Otherwise what Gatland is currently doing makes no sense what so ever As for J.Schmidt well he is picking on form [the only way to picjk a team ]and also experimenting by only using players based in Australia Of the two teams i would say that Australia seem to be the stronger and better balanced So are looking likely winners But who knows ??In sport anything can happenCome the Rugby Championship though im expecting J.Schmidt to start picking some overseas players like W.Skelton As N.Zealand and S.Africa are very obviously much harder processions

The players you left out the skelton and Arnold brothers thought they should not had been there last year only Skelton and Eddie forgot one of the most important things about Rugby with his two league coaches and that was the lineout we were slaughtered in our lineouts in the world cup. At least this team has the balance now although still do not think it is the best of the Australian Jumpers playing.

You can say all you want about bad selections and bad administrators, but the best young talents are being lured to the more glamorous NRL and AFL competitions. Union is also losing kids at schools to these other codes. The game needs a massive injection of money to keep the professional game alive in Australia as well as a pathway from schoolboys through to senior pros or it's not going to have much of a future. Sevens rugby is also drawing a lot of talent away. I'm sure there are similar problems in other countries too. For instance, England has gone down to 10 premier teams.

How can that be even legal? Hathaway is 100% Welsh from Aberystwyth but having already played for Wales U20 he had to play for England if he wanted a contract. That sucks. Absolute Rubbish!! This is 100% not the form team for the Wallabies.
There are talented players in this mix, not the form players.
Besides that, this is not an Australian team!
This is a NZ D team with some scattered Aussies and Islanders throughout the mix.
Currently, there is no representation on the international stage for Australians. Probably soon won't be for many other nations as well. We will just get a bland Barbarian team for every so-called country to throw money away too.
The Wallaby selectors should be ashamed at themselves for stealing the talent of other nations (therefore harming their chances of winning a world cup) and then trying to palm them off to Australians that want to see a side that represents them, their people.
International Rugby has/is fast becoming club sides in international colors... Yawn

Time for Wales to say goodbye to Gatland. He’s a loser, terrible win stats. Need to look to the future with someone with fresh thinking….

Nah test rugby needs to be on point first for next year's Lions tour as that will be a massive boost of cash for Rugby Australia who desperately need it

You have to get off this "englishman playing for Wales is an outrage" trip. You come across as some reform supporting English supremacist.

He didn’t say it was an outrage…he said it was indicative of some of the challenges facing welsh rugby. Calm down. Hathaway may have been born in wales but he has 4 times more England U20 caps than welsh ones
