      What about a Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Crew Trail Boss (6 seater with ridiculous bed payload capacity) with 14” of ground clearance? I’ve got a big family. Will be doing everything but very moderate scale. Want to go into tighter spaces, and just a tad faster than a Jeep. What’re your thoughts? That or Jeep?

      @@ZaneBezesky If you live in Arizona, Utah, and/ or hunt, the ranger is hard to beat. If you live in California, the street legal aspect of the Jeep is a big deal. Honestly I'd love to have both, but the the new Ranger is a cool unit for a big family, and with 32" tires on it they are badass!

    Agreed! SxS’s are the most capable off-road vehicle straight from the dealer floor. Stock or modified- you will have fun. Don’t need a ton of hp or big tires if you don’t want to go that route. We’ve been riding for 5 years and can’t imagine what life would be like without our SxS. Tread Lightly and learn about off-road etiquette out on the trail!

    Each machine has a place. I've had the use of or owned about every common off road genera of vehicle. I've traversed trails on a trials bike that a side by side wouldn't touch. On the other hand a jeep would be much better for long trips on reasonable roads. Today, after seven decades, I own a side by side, a sport ute, and a Dodge Cummins.
    Good video.

    I remember when rzrs first hit the scene and I thought to myself what a waste of money for a go kart... fast forward a few years I had an audi s6 quattro and a twin turbo ls1 drag truck and polaris dropper a huge factory rebate on the 2017 lineup... bought a 4 seat rzr xp1k for 16k out the door and never looked back. Now I own a tow rig, trailer and a polaris general xp4 converted into a 6 seat to take everyone out in the trails and I've not once missed the audi or drag truck or any of the maintenance costs or other headaches that go along with them. I've said for years that running trails in a sxs is the most fun you can have with your clothes on 😆

    I agree 100%. Jeeps are expensive and slow, sand cars limit where you can go unless it's a dual sport, and I own a prerunner, you gotta spend a ton of cash to get the same experience as you do in a SxS.

    I'm sorry but for the dunes I feel so much more safe in a sand rail, they are so much wider and have so much more travel in comparison, compared to like a can am x3 or like a polaris rzr turbo, they lack suspension travel and the roll cages tubes are as thin as paper, all my uncles that have owned utvs/sxs have allways had problems with them so much so they are selling them and getting sand rails, I'm only 15 but god for me a sxs just feels like a death trap, and when you modify it so much it basically just turns into a glorified sand car, and that's why when I'm older I'm either sticking to dirt bikes or getting sand rail.

So don’t say it’s not practical. I’ve done all the trails around ouray/silverton. It comes down to skills both driving and mechanical. I think you are missing the point of why most people dislike or make fun of the UTV crowd. Its not because the vehicles are not as practical or if not more practical than a prerunner/sand car/rock crawler, its more so the demographic of people that are brought to the deserts now because of them. Its absolutely awesome UTV's are bringing in more people to the scene and showing people why offroading is so addicting, BUT and a BIG but is the issue lies within any old joe shmoe with ZERO experience being able to go and finance a car from wally's world and rip around with no regard, safety or etiquette to whats going on or the people around them. There is a serious issue with this going on now with a million of these cars ripping around the desert anywhere you go. There needs to be a safety course of some sort put in place that people have to participate in and pass to be able to own one of these things. Someone could say this should apply to a prerunner/sand car/rock crawler as well but typically when you are dropping 70+ thousand dollars on one of these higher caliber vehicles with your own non financed money, you're pretty invested and been around the sport long enough to know the ins and outs of being in the dirt. I agree with your pinned comment, as long as you're having fun thats all that matters. As long as people are doing it SAFELY.

    • @ChupacabraOffroad
      @ChupacabraOffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with your points of a safety class being required (as these machines are so capable) but just because someone spends $70K+ doesn't mean they know what they are doing, and this turns into 'Well I've been going to Glamis for...." argument.
      My point with this video is that if you can only afford one of these vehicles, or are considering getting into offroad, a SxS is the vehicle. Any of these vehicles require responsibility to drive within your means, drive sober, and have common courtesy. That's a whole other conversation, maybe I can try and do a video to those points, new driver drama is a problem, I've never seen more trash in the desert after Covid turned everyone into "outdoorsy" people.

    • @ChupacabraOffroad
      @ChupacabraOffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Running bigger tires I assume? I've bent a few stock radius rods over the years thanks to 32" tires. If you have the budget, going to a 72" kit would be awesome, even though you are looking $8-10K by the time you get new shocks/ current shocks revalved and resprung. I wouldn't waste money on a A arm kit unless you go wider, and I'm also assuming you are in the Southwest where the width will really help your ride quality and stability. MY race car has a Lone Star 72" kit which has been good, not including the cheap heims and hardware it came with. Whatever you get, ensure it has USA made FK heims and Grade 8 hardware.

    Completely agree, the utv’s are the ultimate tool for off-roading, obtainable for just about any person and provide levels of performance just a decade ago were reserved for people with much higher skill levels to build a prerunner/sand car/buggy or the resources to purchase one from a builder. I can’t even get my girl to go off-roading with me anymore if it’s in our Jeep or samurai, once you stop getting beat up you don’t really want to start again.

  • @superdutyzack
    @superdutyzack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Almost everyone in my riding group are SxS now and they're great. They are fast, comfortable, and safe with some modifications like cages and new seat belts. That said, as much as I like em I think they've become the "mustang" of OHV. People aren't starting off anymore on atvs or dirt bikes and going straight to a SxS and the amount of crashes I see it shows these people don't have dune knowledge. Secondly, they've ruined the dunes for atvs and dirt bikes. Custom shocks and stabilizers can't fix the roughness of the dunes because of all the SxS. I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud; I really like them, but I can't help but notice riding isn't what it used to be. A lot more stops because of throttle thumb or forearm pump. I know they're here to stay and I'm probably in the minority about them, I just wish there were small OHV weekends only sometimes. Just my 2 cents.

    Well done Nick. You nailed it and I wholeheartedly agree. I can afford a UTV unlike other off-road toys. Although the lifestyle led to an open Aluma trailer, lots more tools and toolbox, compressor, pressure washer, toy hauler and truck to tow! 🤣🤣 Here in St George we ride year round and just pull out of the garage and go. We call the RZR our retirement Harley/convertible sports car and I will run to get lunch for us or take a nice evening drive around town. The versatility and fun per dollar ratio is the best by far. 👍👍 I often ride street, fast desert, deep sand and rocks in one ride.
    I’m no mechanic but with really basic maintenance we put 12,000 mostly trouble free miles on our 2015 XP4 which still had a lot of fun miles left in it when we traded for our 2019. We wore out clutches, belts and tires, but never have broken a belt. You have to pay to play, but the cost with a UTV is far smaller than other off road toys.
    I also think that with the delivery of the Speed UTV, the eventual release of the Polaris Pro R and whatever Can Am has up their sleeve the margin of superior versatility will only grow. It will be less appealing to have a Sand car or pre-runner.
    Love the content-keep it rolling! 👍👍😎

      I came from the 2 wheel world, and bikes are amazing, but this is a SxS channel and the purpose of this video is comparing the dollar to fun ratio of a SxS, Jeep, and sand car. Some people will never ride a dirt bike...

    I think its funny how guys get all butthurt when some guy with money buys a 45k side by side. The usual shit talk, like somehow being broke and having to duct tape shit together makes you more hardcore. You can spend all your time learning all about 4 wheeling. I spend my time learning to make more money, so I can buy the reliable high-end machine. No, I'm not going to start with a beater until I get your approval to step up, just to make you feel better. I feel zero shame for being able to afford this stuff, I worked very hard to get here.

      I hear you, and you don't need a $45K SxS to have just as much fun either. This happens a ton in the bicycle world, I don't get it. We all spend our money on different things, to the level that makes us happy. We all splurge on some things, and cheap on others that we don't see as much value in. The sports top tier has become more expensive, but we can't be mad at Ferrari for making a car most can't afford, my 2 pesos....

    If I wanted to just go rock crawling or just go to the dunes or just go pre running and nothing else. I could justify having A jeep or a rock crawler or Sandrail or pre-runner. Or I could have a side-by-side that is capable of doing all of them very well. Maybe not as well but very capable at all of them And much more.That is why I own a $30,000 side-by-side.

    SxS is definately the most veristile. Even though mine is older I love it

    On one of his recent presentations Robby Gordon said once the El Jefe Is out he'll probably be getting rid of his other pre-running rigs....whether it happens or not we'll see but that should tell you something about UTVs.
    I always think the Jeep guys that literally get upset must just be pissed that a someone can purchase a UTV from the showroom and be ready to go the next day to do all of "their" trails in a ride that's cheaper, faster and more comfortable. Maybe not intense level 10 rock crawling, but everything else for sure.

    100% agree, sxs are better in every terrain straight from factory.

    Jeeps need to stay on the streets. Dummies on the internet who say jeeps are better have clearly never tried to chase a sxs thru fast paced desert whoops before

    Thank you Nick!! SxS's rule!! Jeeps are like snails. 2 types of sand cars: 1) old-school/obsolete, 2) elite and too expensive. Pre-runners are not versatile. Nuff said.

    I agree with everything you have said. I love my rzr and ride as much as possible. The only thing that I just can’t get passed is the mandatory helmet law here in Cali. Riding in other states without a helmet is much more enjoyable and freeing. With a custom cage, suspension seats, and 5 point harnesses, I don’t see how my rzr is “more dangerous” than a V8 sand car in the dunes or a Jeep rock crawling in Johnson valley.

      I came from the dirt bike world (literally sold helmets for a living for Fox) so I’m a huge advocate of wearing helmets, after being KO’ed and realizing how brutally dangerous these sports can be, but I know it’s not as comfortable. I agree that sand rails are no safer, and I assume that law went into effect once the Rhino accidents started happening?

      @@ChupacabraOffroad yes, that’s correct. The laws were passed when the rhino accidents started happening. It is obvious when you read the law because it makes it illegal to add a rear bench seat in the cargo area which was common upgrade in rhinos. But SXS’s have come such a long way since the rhino days. The law seems outdated at this point.
