    I grew up in Waco. When I was 4 or 5 my parents owned a car repair shop directly across the street from the Silos. When I was older I drove past the Castle so many times I can’t come up with a number! I love my hometown. FixerUpper has been a wonderful thing for Waco.

      I agree! I have driven through some of the neighborhoods they have restored and renovated houses in and they are definitely giving Waco a bit of a facelift. And I'm sure the traffic and tourism they have brought into the community helps with the economy as well! All around a good thing IMO too!

      because it only has four bedrooms, i think it would be a dreamy wedding venue. just add a gazebo for outdoor ceremonies and you have a super exclusive place. i hope they keep it.

    This was a nice surprise. I'd read about the purchase and seen photos of the unfinished state of the place, but hadn't found much recent info. Chip and Joanna have done a terrific job on the entire project, and maintained the gothic/tudor/castle vibe of the original design. The wallpapers look like the traditional Arts & Craft's movement designs by William Morris. Beautiful old homes across the country are torn down for things like parking lots, and others fall into such ruin they can't be salvaged. Chip and Joanna saved this home, and as an old house restoration fan, this was wonderful to see. The dark wood glass front cabinets in the kitchen area are fabulous, and I'm right with you on those bathrooms! Thanks for sharing this.

    I grew up in Waco too and would walk past this all the time with my mother as well as driving past it on our way to church. It is absolutely beautiful with the renovations. However, my one disappointment is that when I was a child the basement portion had a dungeon in it. All of this has been redone and that took a little of the charm out of it for me. When I was little my Sunday school class had a pet skunk that we would keep in the back building with the tower and I was one of the people to alternately go in and feed the skunk! Wonderful memories of my childhood. Thank you for doing this video.

    • @CharlaniEveryday
      @CharlaniEveryday  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bummer it took a little charm out of it for you, but I'm assuming they thought that a dungeon wouldn't be a very useful space for the family who will eventually live in the home 😬 But it's so cool that you knew of the castle when you were little... that's amazing! I hope you feel like they did the rest justice because it is now beautiful, especially considering the shape it was in when they took it on! You're welcome for the video Kathy... thank you for watching 🖤

      I just feel that that is the beauty of Europe that they keep all of their old structures as they were and not try to modernize them. I think a lot is lost in renovating and tearing down our old buildings and homes.

    Incredibly beautiful! That woodwork is so stately and impressive, and the wood grain is stunning. I'm so glad they stayed true to the original design and feel, and didn't do some garish modern colors (like some people might when they want to "make a statement") . Even in the basement, it's classic and comfortable. Clint must have been in heaven, getting to work in this castle! TFS.

    Such a great restoration project! I love everything, the building itself is not too small and not too big. Here in Europe we have so many neogothic places like that. I especially enjoy how they were not afraid to change purposes of rooms and switch things up a to make them more suitable for contemporary lifestyle (moving the kitchen downstairs etc) and not museum like. Also very sophisticated design and far away from a signature farmhouse style which would not work that well in such grand architecture.

    The colors are so soothing, and the balance of the furniture and the lighting are perfectly matched, creating a very dignified atmosphere. I presume the estate was built around 1900 or shortly before since I could not detect any Jugendstil or Art deco. Jo and Chip have positively influenced and changed the often tacky taste of many Americans. Good taste can also be learned by visiting Europe.

    I have deep ties to Waco. My great grandfather moved there mid 1800s. My grandfather, an early grad of TX A&M grew up near there in a big family with a ranch not far out of town. The family home my ggf built upon arrival was still in the family until around five yrs ago. We visited my dad's two ole maid aunt, schoolteachers still in the family home a century after it was built. Those aunts donated land for a school, a church and still passed on an inheritance of 70+ acres to their nieces and nephews. The heirs list grew from less than 20 to around 45. No one wanted the responsibility of running the estate but a few elders wouldn't relinquish control. I had my own operation to run so I stayed out of the drama. I wish I'd had more time to visit my extended family around there before they all passed. I'd have plenty of questions for them now that I have my children grown and out of the nest. My Uncle was a manager in the glass manufacturing plant that made soft drink bottles. He toured us through the plant in the early 60s.

    new to your channel. I would love to visit this castle someday. I live in Ohio and you mentioned about the imported products for the original castle. We have 2 Piatt family castles here in Ohio, interesting story, the 2 castles were actually family homes fir them in England and they had workmen dismantle and number and label each stone and piece of wood and had it brought by ship to America then transported by train and wagon to the sites,,,, the stairway in the large castle even had built in dust "moats" along each side so the maid could dust the stairs and sweep the dirt into the moat and then swee it to the bottom of the stairway for easy cleanup

Not only is she perfect in every design aspect but I love that she and chip are family oriented and they inspire so many of us!! I also love her cooking show I watch and have tried so many of her Recipe’s I have been so inspired by Joanna she is uplifting and also she’s helped me persevere since I’ve struggled so much with myself she has enlightened my heart to be a better person and with hard work and strength I can accomplish anything! Thank u #joannagains I love ya and all u do u are a inspiration for not just everyone but even the gay community!! There’s been rumors that you and chip are against gay people but I don’t believe that!!! You’re so welcome for the video…and yes! I love her style and vibe for sure! She is amazing and absolutely one of my faves 🥰 Do you have the Magnolia Network app on TV … there are lots of behind the scenes there too that aren’t on the “channel”… I’m glad you have found someone to inspire and motivate you. And I NEVER listen to the tabloids or gossip. Go with your gut and I feel the same way, I don’t believe that nonsense about them either. 🥰

    Gorgeous! I have never seen a design of Joanna's that I didn't like. I love how she and Chip are able to bring their plans to fruition. I loved the table in the kitchen with the marble top. I loved the bookshelves that Clint made! Love Love Love the high ceilings!! There was not a room in the house that I didn't like. Although that super dark green wasn't my favorite color. I like light colors makes the rooms feel larger and less claustrophobic. Thanks so much for sharing with us!!!

    I absolutely 💯 ♥️ ❤️ love the Castle. Mý son has a similar home. I always thought of the cement bricks as a cheaper style of brick... was I ever wrong. I am finishing my retirement 1 story + basement. I converted the master bedroom into my private bath with 18 by 18 inch marble tiles and claw foot tub and master closet, with laundry in suite. My Master bedroom is across the hall. I have felt stuck with the finishing details. Now I am totally ready to finish my home. Joanne Gains Magnolia Castle has my style. I am so excited to finish this Journey to my forever home. Thank you I am now subscribed.

      They will sell it ☑️ The city zoning doesn't allow for an AirBNB or any type of "business" in the area so they will put it up on the market. I think I heard towards the end of the year.

  • @jaelynrae6045

    Thanks for this!!! 💕
    After watching the (2) available episodes, I have spent hours scouring the internet for more photos of the finished kitchen and butlers pantry - no luck! Until the rest of the episodes air, I guess this is as good as it will get - which is a lot better than nothing, and MUCH better than the teaser glimpses featured thus far in the show!
    While I am happy to see they didn't "farmhouse" the snot out of it, I was a little disappointed to see all the beautiful trim painted the same color as the walls, instead of a contrast color to really highlight its beauty. 😖
    This is probably a long shot, but...would you happen to have any additional photos of the kitchen/pantry? I reached out to them to see if I could pay for a virtual tour or get additional photos, but everyone I contacted at Magnolia was surprisingly unhelpful/unfriendly. The whole experience actually has me second-guessing my original plan to incorporate some of the Magnolia products featured in this property (that I really loved!) into my own kitchen renovation. 😖
    We recently purchased our own 1880s home, complete with a relocated tiny main floor kitchen (ours was also originally in the basement) and I am a bit stuck for ideas. I really loved the floor to ceiling built-ins that I caught just a brief glimpse of, and would really love to see a full scale view, rather than the close-ups...if at all possible. 😊
    Did you get to see the 3rd story turret tower? Apart from Chip sitting on the edge of the exterior facade, they haven't shown it at all on the show. There appears to be stairs near the primary bedroom, do those lead up to that space?
    I also noticed you didn't mention the "hidden room" in the basement that others have mentioned elsewhere online. Were you told to keep that quiet, or was that not featured as part of the tour?
    Finally, is "pass-down" the new PC term for a dumbwaiter - similar to how the "master" is now the "primary" bedroom? Or is this a regional name for it?
    I was really sad to see they didn't keep it, it could have been incredibly useful to send snacks down to the entertainment room below. We have one that was closed off but still retains the original framing, and hope to restore it at some point.
    Anyhoo...thanks again for sharing this, it was really helpful! I am really looking forward to watching the rest of the show...as I impatiently wait for each new episode! 😁

    • @CharlaniEveryday
      @CharlaniEveryday  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! You are so welcome for this video.... I hope you found it helpful!
      I do not have photos.... I only filmed.... so what you see is what I've got! I'll bet that as the show airs and more episodes are released, more photos will emerge as well.
      I did not see the turret tower. There are stairs leading up to it, but it was blocked off when I was there. If I remember correctly, they said there wasn't anything to "see" up there, It may have been used for storage or housing the AC units.
      I showed all the rooms.. Maybe the "hidden room" you're talking about was the laundry room, empty room, and/or bathroom area down in the basement.
      I called the dumbwaiter a "pass-down" because I could NOT remember "dumbwaiter" when I was voice-overing... 🤷🏻‍♀️
      I am "impatiently" waiting for the new episodes too! I love just about everything they did... and can't wait to see how/why they decided to renovate as they did!

      @@CharlaniEveryday apparently there is a hidden panel ("trick") door to a bonus room off the card room in the basement, so I'm guessing you would definitely know that it was meant to be hidden if it was shown to you.
