    Being a card carrying non-Purist, I approve this video! Looks absolutely great, Jim. I wouldn't have bothered with the engine either. Love it. Scores high on the Ferrari cool scale too! A fresh new coat of rosso corsa red does wonders. 🍁☕️

    I remember these from when I was a kid. They didn’t last long. After they stopped rolling, they often met their untimely demise being crushed, set on fire, smashed by large rocks, or blown up by large fireworks. At least by us farm kids. Nice to see one brought back to life!

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Didrik! That comment about "set on fire" reminded me of the time as a kid when my buddy had some strips of aluminum clad foam. He set it on end (if I remember right, it stood something like four feet tall) and then set it on fire to recreate the movie The Towering Inferno 🤣🤣🤣

      I waa country farm boy ..And I never destroyed my Sizzlers..I had a lot growing up...wheni went to college I never lost site of them... Now that Im a very sucessful business owner.. I collected over a 2 thousands cars and specialize in Sizzlers ...I dedecated my last 50 years to Sizzlers collecting and resoring them...

      @didrikpeterson ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s great! I still have a lot of my things from when I was a kid. While I’m not a collector, I do occasionally see something that I’d like to have again - and you collector/seller types are an asset to us nostalgic folks looking to rebuild our car cases from way back when.

    Very nice Jim 👍 This is actually one of the more rare sizzlers models. The bone color was actually chromed. The old NiCad batteries leaked acid which destroyed the chrome. Sometimes these can be repaired, but sadly most were destroyed by the leaking acid.

      To be honest ..Even to today a lot of Sizzlers thats never been open arent all in bad shape ..I just opened about 15 cars..All got restored but 3 ...Now this..The long battiers cars didn't get wasted nearly as bad as the short battery ones .The long battery cars were more protected because they were designed and made with a cover over the motors ..The ony parts that mostly got destroyed were the contacts.(Still a lot of them can be cleaned up made to run....-..Most long battaries were easier to repair after all these years.. That Red Ferrarie is one of my favorite Sizzler car to race ..!!

    Watching this in 2024 because I recently got a Sizzler included in a Redline junkyard lot. I had a couple of hand-me-down Sizzlers in the 70s… they wouldn’t hold a charge anymore so I never really played with them. I’m watching all the videos I can find to learn more about how they’re built.

The purest believe it or not I don't think on these they care if you restore them and that particular one is worth $40-$75 . Love it! Only thing I suggest is hitting the wheels with some clear as the car really pops, and the matte wheels kind of bring it down a notch. Screw the purists, they can restore their own cars. If not for you, this car probably would have ended up in the landfill anyway. Keep on keeping on!

    Wow very interesting car...and resto. I'm wondering if the glass was affected by the battery or motor getting hot when it was functional. I wasn't sure how this one was going to turn out, but I'll be damned if Jimmy Jam didn't knock another one out of the park...as best as possible! 😄 Awesome job sir!😃👍🏻

      From what some people have told me, it’s not an odd thing for these castings to go bad in this way from off gassing of the battery when it goes bad. Some cars look a lot better than some others from the Sizzlers lol. I have another one I hope to do early next year 😊

  • @michaelbecker7684
    @michaelbecker7684 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jim ,you could have tried soaking the glass in hydrogen peroxide. Let sit on a windowsill for a day or two. Works on yellowed white plastic too. Trick I learned restoring slot cars. Turned out great , 512 is one of my favorites.

      Not a clue - I didn't restore this one to running condition and pulled the battery out of it. There are some resources online for the batteries if I remember correctly from searching at the time, as well as a Facebook group that might be able to point you in the right direction.

    Approved.
    Couple things. Sizzlers were released a couple years ago through Target and Wal-Mart. Limited year release...but it made a minor splash with collectors who remembered the initial release. Also...plenty of down hill Hot Wheel racing that uses the Sizzler track because you can get great side by side racing action.
    Makes me wonder ...you are retired and I'm close. You cant be that much older n me. You never had a set as a kid? They were great fun.
    Secondly. The condition your Ferrari was in was junk can ready. You saved it. It will live on as a quality and cherished piece. To hell with what purists think. I would have gone a step further and maybe painted the air scoops black behind the doors...or maybe...(gasp) drilled them out for realisms sake...😳😜😁😂
    Again. This sesto is stamped

      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Don! I do kinda-sorta remember them, but I really became involved with the much larger slot cars that were really popular at the time. We had a few tracks locally and my dad really got into it, which naturally made me enjoy it even more. The RC cars of today, with their thin bodies that attach over the chassis really remind me of those days.

    How dare you! That is a Hot Wheel Sizzler . . . it is rare . . . it is irreplaceable . . . . you need to go back to school for electronics so you can fabricate and recreate all of the inner workings of this very precious toy that were slowly turning green.
