There are 4 Illinois Tollway Oasis locations left. Belvidere, DeKalb, Lake Forest, and Chicago Southland Lincoln are the only ones left. Hope you get to the Great River Roadtrip tomorrow Jacob!
Wow thanks for the additional info!
@@Midnighthauntt You’re welcome @Midnighthauntt!
We appriciated you and I know hard it is to be away from home and most importantly Jenn. I love you guys so much! My favorite celebrity couple!!
I could go for an orange chicken or Kung pao chicken burrito from Panda Express. It's off menu but most offer it. Great video as always Jake!
I'm ready for the road trip!, thanks Jacob
🎉Welcome to my homestate, Jacob. I know you been here before but I wish you'd give us a heads up on your adventure this trip. It would be cool to see you come through Rochester.😁
Wow, that story about seeing someone get shot was crazy!
You have a great, calming voice. You could do audio books❤ interesting museum.😊
We love stopping at the Lincoln Oasis. I have a ton of memories from my childhood stopping at the Tollway Oasis on our way to see my grandparents in Racine Wisconsin. Glad we still have these to share with my kids on our roadtrips to see their Grandparents in Minnesota.
Good Morning " YA ALL " Jacob the Carpetbagger ..!!
Getting closer to 500K, Jacob!!! 😁
I saw that too, I'm so excited 😊
Always a pleasure watching your vlogs. Even when you are at the most mundane places you bring me a smile. Today my favorite carpet thread was that the liberty bell was not "ring ready" Thanks for your unique humor and delivery.
Growing up, that Lincoln Oasis used to have a HUGE playground and a BK we would always go to.
I've watched for a few years now you got me through the pandemic and I look forward to your daily videos Caz from the UK ❤
Yay, I’m happy you’re spending a little more time in the Midwest. Looks like Iowa is next!
Safe travels Jacob and have fun love your videos
You're awesome
You think you cam help me get something to eat $Figdollars215
When I worked for McDonald's back in the 80s, the Hinsdale Oasis was the McDonald's corporate version of a gulag in Siberia. You were sent there if you screwed up badly. I had a sock monkey that I apparently took everywhere when I was very young. I barely remember it, but I do remember being heartbroken when I lost it. Dated a girl from Rockford for a while, and we bumped into Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick, also from Rockford, at the Denny's. Absolute gentleman.
Love Cheap Trick! And definitely ate at your Oasis during trips to Great America park.
@@arrowguy173I never actually worked at Hinsdale, but I knew a manager who was a (explicative deleted) and was transferred there due to many customers complaining. My McDs was on Algonquin road near Harper college.
If you’re ever passing through Bakersfield, California, we have a place called Pioneer village that has all the old houses in it. Need to check it out next time you come through here.
Hey Jacob Roll On CarpetBagger Roll On! Safe Travels Jacob
Me and my family watch you every day when we sit down for dinner
Jacob...it goes without saying I watch all your videos. I especially loved your Route 66, Dixie Highway and Lincoln Highway series. Hooked! Also you inspired me to upload on my own channel so thanks!
I think I know which road you are taking. If it is, I can't wait, its one of the ones on my bucket list.
I always love your summer roadtrip videos, those are my absolute faves 🎉 bring it on CB!
JACOB ‼️ This needs to be Said . . . This is at least the 2nd Video where You have a Cutout photo op with Nobodys face in the 2nd cutout. Please bring one of your puppets, maybe a pic of Jen & Place it in the other empty space js 😉
Love your videos i look forward to them every morning🌞
Keep up the Great work Carpetbagger👍💥🖤
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who notices off things like that.😁
I've pretty much been watching since the beginning. I love watching your videos. I work nights and the first thing I do when I get home is watch your video. You are my favorite TH-camr. Much love and stay safe during your travels.
Thanks for posting The Match between the evil and sinister Carpetbagger and Manager Mortimer. It was fun to watch. took me back to that time when this cannel was full of wrestling highlights and food challenges.
Great video, Jacob. Sock monkeys are cool. I'm looking forward to the video. Take care, my friend, and as always, safe travels.
Thank you for another wonderful video. I'm really excited about the road trip that is starting tomorrow!
Sock 🐒!!!! We are big fans of the sock monkey in my household. Even my dog has one. 😂
They do have ww1 and ww2 reenactments in that little village.
Enjoyed the oases and hearing your stories, the museum and the buildings were interesting. And I’m glad you hit the gift shops up as they complete the experience!
The five original oases were built in conjunction with the original tollway construction in 1959. They featured Standard Oil (Amoco) gas stations and Fred Harvey restaurants, and were something of a novelty in the region-becoming destinations in and of themselves for driving customers.
Our cousins were on the all American girls baseball league so seeing that section of the museum was awsome
Remember Culver's Root Beer? It's back. In diet form.
Loved the historical village thank you for taking us along. Also loved the museum!!
Jacob I live in Rockford!! I was just at Midway Village last month. They do WWII re-enactments and when it’s nicer outside they have actors dress up in period clothing. I’m sad I missed you but maybe next time my friend!!
For a second I thought you were going to Long Grove IL. I just recently learned they have a Sock Monkey Museum over there. But now I know that the Sock Monkey originated from Rockford IL! I love Rockford for its thrift stores! Next time I go, I will make sure to stop at their Midway Village Museum. 😊
Awasome nostalgia!! You were not too for from me while in Belvidere!! Keep up the great work!! I enjoy your videos!!
I love the ' eum rule ❣️🌟🤩 and I love sock monkeys and historic villages too ❣️🙌🐵🏘️🌟💖 Your videos are the first thing I watch every evening ✨💗😺 You are my favorite TH-camr Jacob 🏆🤩💖 Thank You for bringing Us along with You ❣️🙏💝😻♾️
My mom worked in the gift shop at Midway Village when they started their adopt a sock monkey program in the early 2000's and she and I spent the better part of a family trip to Florida coming up with names for sock monkey adoption certificates. I also once accidentally showed Abraham Lincoln my underwear at a school Civil War program while explaining Victorian under clothes to a group of 6th grade girls.
As long as you are in Minnesota maybe you can visit Paisley Park where Prince lived and recorded, I would love to see that
You mentioning your favorite zoo gave me a great idea for a lowkey video of you listing your favorite attractions you’ve been to (zoos, natural history museums, state fairs, oddities fairs, dark rides, ect.) I’d love that!
That'd be good "in the bunker" filming ideas!
The guy with the coffee! 😂
What a great museum! Thanks a lot Jacob.😊
I'm so excited for this adventure! There are so many great places to visit along the way. I know that you are not a cave person but I challenge you to stop in and check out Meramec Caverns on this trip! I really think you'll like it even better than the one you toured in Branson.
I was curious so I looked it up. On March 16, 2014, the Des Plaines Oasis closed as part of construction on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway expansion. On September 5, 2018, The O'Hare Oasis closed to make way for Tri State Tollway widening. The Hinsdale Oasis closed on September 13, 2021, also to make way for the Tri State Tollway widening. Those are just the ones in Illinois
You were very close by my house when you were at the Hinsdale Oasis! Next time you're in the area, there is a new Route 66 statue/photo op in Countryside along Joliet Road. You'd have to park in the Township of Lyons office and just walk a few hundred yards or so. I'm looking forward to your next adventure! Did you buy Jenn a sock monkey?
The sock monkeys were once a popular toy
If you're heading down through Southern Illinois on this trip, you have to stop at Wally's! It's an awesome rest stop similar to Buckey's. It's in Pontiac, IL
Oh Lincoln . The sock monkey history is cool. Victorian village was really amazing.
"Maybe getting shot in the head isn't that bad" Have you never seen Final Destination? That's like an ironic, universal taunt 😅
I'm ready for the road trip.
Culvers Rocks!😊
Culver's is great! I love the mint concrete mixer.
Thank u always amazing videos thank u your the best always make me luagh
Jacob, that’s not silly to be sad about those oasis that are gone! I have vivid memories of stopping at the Hindsdale Oasis. I have long left Chicago (1997), but having lived there most of my life (until I was 41. I’m 67 now), you want those remnants of what you knew to still be there. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen in life.
Hay you all carpetbagger here love this video dude keep this train on the track this boat in the water and this derigable in the air this one is in the bag.
I had hoped your trip was going to be down A1A…but anything you’re doing is gonna be great!
Morning Jacob 🤓📸 I have a socks monkey 🐵 in my bedroom next to my bed or on my bed lol I found one that an original from goodwill store about 8 years ago. It's says Ozark Missouri on the tag by its tail/butt. thanks for sharing this the birth play of the Sock Monkey.
You think you can help me get a bite to eat
@@byallmeansneccasary6884???
If you see my In laws tell them hello they live in Minneapolis MN. Looking forward to the new trip.
I understand being bounced around from 1 partent to the other. I love your videos. Be safe om from traveles
Ive taken route 17 from Rochester to Orlando, and route US1 Maine to Key West
We had Culvers today too in Dixon Ill and yeah its been awhile❤😂😅❤
These oasis things are a good idea. Clean bathrooms, places to eat. Especially with the raise of EVs and nothing to do while you charge
Starbucks also has iced coffee and ice teas as well as juices. They sell more than hot coffee 😸
There is a movie called a league of their own, that will explain some of the history of the peaches baseball team. its quite enjoyable
Same memories I had at the Oasis.
I felt lucky I lived close to Chicago from northern Indiana. ( Crown Point)
So many things to do.
Including Lake Michigan.
Hi Jacob 👋 you have very interesting stories😮 safe travels
There's a new Culver's in Hickory, NC. Right off I 40. Exit 126? I think.
I miss sock mokeys😂😢😢😢
Culver's is easily my favorite fast food burger. I dip their fries in their tartar sauce. One Culver's hack is get the kids burger meal for a decent price and it comes with a scoop of custard with one topping!
You taking Highway 2 out off Bemidji towards the West Coast? 🤔
Yeah i totally remember the O'Hare Oasis
Jacob you are an Indianapolis I live in Avon indiana. I used to live on the west side of Indianapolis in the gateway edition. You should come to Plainfield Indiana and go to a place called Gilley's antique mall. They have a lot of cool stuff in that mall and you might be interested in it. Next time you're in Indianapolis you should come down to Plainfield Indiana and check out Gilley's antique Mall
I lived in Oak Lawn Back in the 80s and the 294 Hinsdale oasis was always our stopping spot. I visited family and was sad to hear the oasis was torn down many memories.
I still have the sock monkey my grandma gave me. He’s survived a house fire and cross country move with only a few holes and a tad singed.
I do love the fact that you're going to go see the largest collection of sock monkeys because I have about 45 sock monkeys in my apartment right now cuz I collect them.
Hi there Jacob... I also get attached to certain places that hold special memories from my childhood.. To be honest any kind of place that when I revisit and Its gone...I.E Little chefs....Certain motorway service stations.. Theme parks the list goes on.....XXX
Culvers Pork Tenderloin is the go-to!!! But you can never go wrong with a Butterburger (don't forget the cheese curds as a side!)
quite understandable to be sad about a part of lost childhood. I am afraid, the trip of the past doesnt get much better the older you get because time goes by so fast. We can be glad we had the pleasure to enjoy those places when we did and enjoy new things.
They need to organize the tourist stuff and make it a tourist stop and advertise its there. Other wise that just a rest stop like we have on the thru way.
Famous skater Janet Lynn grew up in Rockford. There is a Culvers near my home ( next town over ).I need to go back and have the cheese curds.
I would hate to see the mileage you have put on your new car. Safe travels Jacob
The building that was used as a silver shamrock Factory in Halloween 3 has been torn down
The old village reminded me a little bit of Old World Wisconsin.
Have you ever been?
Is tthat the same oasis that was closed and the lady yelled at you?
My grandmother used to make sock monkeys for my cousins and I when I was young in the 90s
Cool, I love sock monkeys!
On my channel I have midway village during Halloween and the ww2 reenactment. It’s definitely a totally different vibe than what you experienced.
The peaches played a game a couple of days ago.
Lincoln was also a vampire hunter
Many stops at the Chicago oasis Wendys etc in the 80s and 90s traveling to Great America from South Bend. ❤❤
Please go to the BB king museum, Jacob!!
I read somewhere that the injury (large bruise) Geena Davis' character got sliding into home was an actual injury and not make up 😱
They have Civil War days and World War 2 days every year there
those oases made good third places
I remembered in 1990' or Early 2000's when a knitting kit/pattern booklet for how too knit one....I had a copy😢but not where it is...
Sad ........Reminds me of all the rest stops on The Garden State Parkway that are now gone 🙁🙁
Forgot all about the Oasis . Hope you don't race down the Mississippi River road as fast as you did the Lincoln HWY. You may remember we got a plaque from National Geographic for our wacky world being part of the Mississippi River Geotourism Program eventhough we are thirty-seven miles away from river.
The Ice Hogs used to be called the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
come on everyone have all your friends to subscribe to carpet bigger let’s get him over 500,000 subscribers he deserves it!!
My boyfriend would hate that view . He is afraid of heights..
