Blocked kicks are no doubt scripted. It’s the most ea madden thing I’ve ever seen and it can cost you a game online. The kicker blatantly freezes for a second that’s so EA
The glide back is clearly your player model being rigged to do a scripted animation. They are slightly out of place for the animation so they shift into place
@@delusional3392 I like 2k8, but I still prefer 2k5 b/c it offers a lot more. Also, the gameplay on the Xbox version works better than the ps2. Personally, I prefer the 2k5 version on Xbox than 2k8.

Bayta Librae I've done testing, if you can call it that, on animations in madden. For example when certain animations trigger attributes mean nothing. I've played against a 0 overall team, meaning zero speed and others. This block animation triggers and they have a speed boost to block the kick. Basically the 0 speed slider matters none. On all madden the QB is still pretty accurate too. The game is broken

So it’s a thing because in madden 17 when they added blocks they searched for a way to make a decent block animation. The slow kicker movement is a simulated fuck up by the kicker to make the game more fun. Madden would be faded if there was nothing by chance. I like it how it is

How else can madden add the feature to the game it’s a fucking video game? The other player triggers the block by jumping the snap and even then with the mechanic the person going for the blocked kick still has to get the right angle and motion and not run into the kicker and even then sometimes the kick won’t be blocked y’all are a bunch of pussies making dumb ass assumptions acting like madden just decides when a kick gets blocked on its own. It’s not scripted whatsoever it’s a gameplay mechanic the other person triggers it then if they have the proper angle and press the block button at the right time then the kick gets blocked now if it’s against the cpu then it gets triggered from a RNG depending on the difficulty it has nothing to do with being scripted it’s not scripted at all. I honestly think the number of casual players far outweighs the more hardcore and sim style players so they either don't notice how bad Madden is or they just don't care. Those of us smart enough to see how bad Madden is and willing to stop buying it make up too small a percentage for EA to really be hurt by it monetarily. Heck, there are enough "hardcore" players that DEFEND Madden constantly so I don't think EA has to worry about losing money any time soon unfortunately.
I have played probably 300 games and kicked countless fgs it is absolute nonsense when the game decides it's going to get blocked. It's not about the step your kicker doesn't start moving until the holder places the ball on blocked kicks while normal fgs he is moving pretty much at the snap as he should be. Not only is it nonsense at the amount of kicks blocked but i'd say conservatively 75% of them are returned for touchdowns and this happens once out of every 3-4 games or so. It's a massive gameplay issue that should have been resolved months ago.
I get blocked at times. Sometimes 2 or 3 times in a game. The kicker literally stands still before he moves to kick at least 2 seconds giving the defender time to get there. Madden 18 and 19 do it.
It was the same thing with the aggressive catching, they would litterally move your defender or offensive receiver into position in order to do the animation. Its so stupid, you can play perfect defense but the game will slide your player into the spot it wants in order to do an animation.
I've been playing madden since 2002, you guys always find something to bitch about. I took a break on the next gen consoles and I feel like the games are way more balanced, nano blitz is checked out. at the higher competition levels this game is lit asf online. Unlikely to see 50 point games just like real life.
I noticed this early on in M20 and it's also in M21. You can watch your kicker hesitate amd play a noticeably slower animation on every CPU block and nearly every player block, for both kicks and punts. You have very little to do with kick blocks, it all comes down to whether or not the game wants this particular kick to be blocked.
RyanMoody21 doesn’t that animation have to do with wether or not the opposing player (at least pvp not against cpu) presses the button at the perfect time? Like it changes the animation to the slower process but ONLY if the opposing player perfectly times the snap. Therefor it’s not really “scripted” in that sense? Against cpu of course no one else is pressing the button so it’s random selection like 99% of the processes in the game.
Bass Also I notice some plays guys will be wide open and drop easy catches, keep in mind my team is a 90 overall, there is no reason they should drop, but they do consistently at clutch times to make the game more interesting

Scripted isn't the word I would use. I think it's more fair to say it's triggered. When the timing of hitting the jump the snap button is successful then the delay in animation is triggered to give the defender the high chance to get in there and make the block. That's the way they programmed the mechanic to make it work. As much as we would love Madden to be a living breathing simulation of football it's still a video game that is governed by systems within its program to make the game function. That's the way those guys came up with to make that mechanic work.

Yeah I’ve noticed the blocked field goals/punts. I can always see it coming from a mile away. If you’re on defense on madden blocking a kick doesn’t take skill, it takes luck for this animation to kick in. My God this game is garbage.

Dear god i have been losing my mind over the blocked kick animation since they incorperated it back in madden 17. The kicking animation is delayed so the gunner has enough time to block it. This animation has cost me in crucial moments in games on numerous occasions. the game is too animation driven instead of physics and logic based. i think the beginning of the end of quality gaming without all the animations was when the made madden 16 and added the aggressive catch animation.

Kaged Storm its not scripted, that means the other player or computer timed your kick count. You can hold the X/A button on the last press in the kicking motion to throw people off from guessing. There’s ways around it. It’s unblockable if you get a perfect too. Come on bro dont blame it on a “script”

Thank you for pointing this out. I've been saying this for months that the game engine is designed for players who aren't that good to still be competitive. Definitely happens in all phases of the game and not just field goals/extra points.
I feel like there’s 3 animations. One is just you get blocked. Second is one where you get the block. And lastly one is that you make it, but he kicks after you dove. I just look at the legs to decide if I get the block or not. This is better than the emoji movie

Also the locker just feels slower on the blocked kicks. The commentators always say it's because of the "low trajectory" but it's not. On a good kick the kicker takes like 2-3 steps. On a blocked kick he takes like 20 steps and stutters like he's JuJu
Just watched this video, and it reminded me of a time when I set my controller down cause I got tired of not blocking any field goals. And, low and behold, the computer actually blocked it for me. So yeah, I fully believe that blocks are scripted.

Tell me if this sounds familiar: Late 4th quarter. You have a 4 point lead. Your team has 150 yards rushing, but if you run the ball, you will get stuffed for a loss, every time. Unless its REALLY late 4th quarter, in which case, running the ball = fumble. Your team has 350 yards passing and no turnovers, but if you throw it, it will be an interception or your receiver will drop it. Why does this happen? Because the game has 90% control over what happens, you have maybe 10%. And if the game wants something to happen, it happens. You are literally just a passenger when it decides it wants you to win, or lose, or turn the ball over to help the loss happen.

If it were scripted it would not matter what either player does, however the defensive player dictates if a kick will be blocked by timing of the jump. In a somewhat recent update EA made it so that perfect kicks could not be blocked
Blocked kicks due to a kicker are because if that kickers awareness. What pretty much happens inside the code is when a situation like this initiated a random check is made like one would make in dungeons and dragons to determine if the kicker screws it up by being late. Blocked kicks when the kicker didn't screw up are possible in game. For instance if a user is controlling a d-lineman to block a kick and the awareness level meets the check and the user jumps at the right time, the kick will be blocked more often than not. These checks are why the ratings like spec catch, awareness, block schredding, etc are never max at 99. 99 doesn't mean perfect, it means 99 times out of 100 theoretically a check will be met with success.
So true. They happen too frequently. Tip in case you don't already know, if you play offense only, make sure you kick your own extra points. I had Robbie Gould and on sim he was missing 50% of his extra points, went through 2 other kickers and the same thing.
Playing against my friend's I used to block kicks all the time. It's all about what you press the sprint button on a blocker, and how your opponent kicks the ball.
It does that if you time the kicking meter...you must tap R2 on ps4 at the same time as the 2nd kicking meter is coming down...if you time snap correctly you can jump the line like in the video...but dont make it seems like you automatically block the kick cause you don't...I've missed plenty of them when I've jumped the line

One time I got blocked on a punt in OT to lose. Honestly the best thing they did in Madden this year was to set perfect kicks as unblockable. I mean something that should have been apart of the game from the beginning, sad this is the most innovative think they've done all year!

I personally never kick full power on kicks because of lag and I don’t wanna miss the accuracy on the way down. But they’re making it to where that’s the only way you have a chance of not getting your kick blocked. BS!

I agree with you and you probably are correct about the development in the game. But what I do wonder is if you can do the same comparison but see if the power gauge is similar in both kicks. Maybe his wind up starts late if you fall short or over boost the power gauge. Just a suggestion that made me wonder if that little deviation changes the outcome more often

It's Gohn! I’ve blocked several kicks. In the drills, it explains if you hit RT as the ball is hiked, it triggers the animation where the kicker slows down. I’m not saying it’s great. You’re not truly blocking the kick you’re hitting RT at the right time and Madden is giving you an animation. This was their solution to people just running in a circle presnap and getting through every time. There are ways to counter this. If you hold A on the third press, the kicker won’t move until you let go. It throws off the timing of the user hitting RT preventing a block animation being triggered.

sockcornnoodles if it’s it’s a perfectly time user whatever, it shouldn’t delay the kicker. The kicker should go through this progression as normal. In NCAA 09 on the PS2 these animations weren’t tied together, if you got off the line fast enough and your player had enough speed to get around the corner you had a chance to block the kick, now all you have to do is press RT in a quick time situation to get a successful blocked kick. Where’s the user skill in that.
I've noticed that if you control the guy on the end, sometimes he'll get in a more athletic stance if that makes any sense to block the kick, and he'll actually run faster
I like APF2k8 where the snaps very on the rating of the snapper. When was the last time you saw a kick or punt snap go over the head of the punter or kicker in Madden
I have forever said that blocked kicks/punts should be out of the game. Nothing you can do as a kicker can prevent it from happening. On defense i get a perfect release EVERY TIME yet i have only blocked 1 kick. It is 100% predetermined scripted BS and it shouldn't be in the game. Change the kicking mechanic to make it harder but stuff like this is unacceptable.

I play Madden all the time and I have only experienced two blocked kicks. One of them was definitely slowed down on my part and the defensive lineman completely unguarded came down from the top right of the field to smother my ball as I was hesitating on my windup just like your video.
I’ve been blocking kicks way before they added animations . Back then it was about timing and it still is . Yes there’s an animation, yes your kicker moves slower and yes the player JUMPING the snap gets a speed boost . Hold the X /A longer to throw timing off
Also on the bad kick, look at number 88. He moves backwards a bit early allowing the blocker to go around him. In real football that would've been a false start on the kicking team.

Here’s the thing tho. The way games work, it is probably already determined when you snap the ball, if not when you select the play. It’s a random chance based on whatever stats the devs had. Nothing that the kicker does “causes the kick to be blocked” the kick will be blocked, so that’s the animation that gets played. Let’s not forget that this is still a video game, and is a graphical representation of a programs output. The kicker moving backwards has no impact on the result of the kick. The result of the kick causes the kicker to move backwards. You have the cause-effect backwards
I noticed this when I was playing my friend after I pressed the X button it was moving slow as hell and then it it was blocked. I remember vividly jamming the X button due to the fact of how slow it was moving
It's all about the kick meter. When you stop the power on the red section at the top, it takes longer for the kicker to kick the ball, so it can be blocked. AI does it randomly.
When you go to start a game, you can choose between Arcade, Simulation and Competitive. I had this same issue but it basically tells you that it is "simulated events" aka scripting.
Sean Kolovich simulation doesn't mean scripted. It means it's supposed to be as close to the real game as far as physics go, or things that can happen in an actual game. While these things such as blocked kicks and turnovers obviously can happen in a real game, that doesn't mean the game has to make them happen. That should be up to the player making the play.
In reality, as a kicker myself, we don’t move exactly when the ball is received by the holder. Snaps speeds are different. When the ball is snapped it takes a little bit for us to be aware and move. And madden is making it realistic to the fact that kickers don’t start their approach at the same time every single time. It changes from snap to snap as each snap is different and we don’t control when the snap it. The holder controls when the ball is snapped, so in reality, Madden is making the game sort of realistic to the fact that kickers don’t know exactly when the ball is snapped, and that they take a second or so longer to approach sometimes compared to other times.
Jake Davis It would make sense, if that’s actually what it was. All the takeoffs for the kickers are the same. The only ones that differ are the ones that are blocked. When the defense times the snap correctly the kicker waits a second longer to takeoff so when he finally does kick it, the gunner is already there. I do it all the time in the solo challenges.
The problem is that its predictable and this is the ONLY way kicks are blocked. Plus, on all madden against the cpu, this happens way too much. Edit: my point is that it's scripted and never feels organic or dynamic.
The problem is that the people that play these games and complain have never played a down of real football or watched film on real football in their lives. I get some of the stuff in Madden is going to glitch but 90% of the complaints I see on here really do happen in real football.

Sometimes I can't tackle a runner because he's in an animation with another defender, or I can't control a player because he's about to engage in an animation. The animations and outcomes of those animations are determined before it even starts. I disagree with you about players never playing real football or watching film.
I was doing open practice with punts, because I’m not too good at returning. I thought for a few times if I did the punt return where you send everybody it would be fun to try and block a few. I noticed that when you blocked it, if you were controlling the guy on the far left then he would literally without any different controls juke the blocker and the punter would be much slower. Good to know I’m not the only one seeing this.
I thought everybody knew this already. Now, it's not necessarily scripted; it depends on the timing of when the blocker jumps the line. If the timing is off, the kicker does it's regular motion and knocks down the kick. However, if the timing on hitting the right trigger (or R2) is perfect, the kicker waits a moment, then kicks. If the dive is wrong on the blocker's part, then the kicker will get the kick off. But if the blocker jumps properly, it results in a blocked kick.
Yeah, but it's really the only way they can do the animation. If they did it like normal, the blocker would come flying off the side, and it would be incredibly difficult for the opponent to move their player. When the kicker takes extra time, it's almost like a little slow motion for the player to set themselves up and block the kick. Again, the kicker does not cause this to happen. Instead, a good jump off the side triggers the animation to make the kicker step forward at a delay.

Again, they are in the sense that the timing of the blocker's jump determines when the kicker begins his forward motion. However, scripted isn’t necessarily the right word, because it's not like Madden wants a certain player to win. They just have it coded so that a perfect timed jump results in a delayed kicker reaction. Michael MacDonald he isn't say g the game is scripted to have a blocked kick. He is saying that when you or the cpu defender hit the r2 at the exact right time it triggers the slower wind up. That's how they implemented it. The game doesn't decide when a kick is blocked. The player as the defender getting that timing right decides it.

I was playing earlier, down by 5 with 20 seconds in the 4th, and got sacked by a 4 man rush 4 downs in a row from the same d end almost instantly, even with an extra blocked from a tight end and HB, guess that happens when the 80 overall jets play the 90something overall falcons to the wire huh?
Go to coaching options & they can literally Custom the Defense to play more Aggressive or tweak the whole Defense or offense it's rigged but this plays a part , to make it seem like It's ur fault
In madden 18 if ur attempting a pat,field goal or a punt if ur kicker/punter are slow to kick or in the punters case catch and kick that usually mean that its gonna get blocked but not all the time
The same thing happens on punts, madden made a marketing push this year claiming they did a whole bunch to make it more realistic but as always when they have development cycles as short as they do very little gets improved from year to year. One day they're going to realize maybe a game every two years is more feasible but ill be old and dead by then and everyone will have stopped playing football already.
Blocked kicks have to be scripted, it’s too rare of an event in real football for there to be skill added in the game. Also I wouldn’t call it scripting, more that in the game’s code it says that there’s a 1/50 chance of it happening or something like that.

From now on it's disc only. I think I went nearly 2 months without playing it. During that time I've played 2k5 and NCAA 09. Football is so much cleaner on old gen. None of this trash. Funny how EA once made a really fun football game. Now I can't get past halftime without feeling like I'm playing an arcade game that's poorly developed. I hate that you cannot criticize how terrible this franchise has fallen with the fanboys. I get called out and I've bought every madden since back in the SNES days. Can't we all agree that this is not where this franchise should be? I mean honestly, the depth that football had when 2k and EA were battling was awesome. Franchise modes felt deep and alive. Now they feel empty and ignored. The play on the field felt better. I'll take tackles that give more realistic results in 2k and the PS2/Xbox days over what we have now. EA had a great product, now they are milking the cash cow.

The reason why the kick was blocked, had nothing to do with the kicker. It had to do with the Tight End on the very edge ( #88 ). The backwards slide movement that you saw with the kicker, is more pronounced with #88. He slides back as the ball is hiked, then goes back forward to the line. As he's going forward, the outside edge rusher gets a good jump. As #88 goes back to pick him up, it's too late, and the rusher blocks the kick. On the XP that was made, not only did #88 not slide back as the ball was hiked, the outside edge rusher didn't come off the edge and went behind the line. This means that #88 successfully blocked the man in front of him.
Watching this in 2020, and the shit never got fixed. It might even be worse. Props to you Mr. Moody for having the stones to hold EA's feet to the fire.
This is how it is in the nfl.. If the kicker dont react in time or the snap is jumped it gives the defense a huge advantage and prob will be blocked...
How I look at it is, you don't control what the player does you control what they attempt to do example you don't control if a quarterback throws a bad pass you just control who he attempts to throw it to just like a kick, you don't control how quick he reacts just how he kicks the ball

If people weren’t so simple minded they would simply download a roster update and tweak the the people who block field goals to have a higher chance at blocking field goals. The developers deal with the way stuff happens in game by how the players are in real life. For example, for years the Minnesota Vikings stayed at a 70+ overall. They maybe reached 80 like 2 times. They did really well this season and are the highest rated team in the game. Look at Minnesota’s field goal kicker that kept missing field goals or having them blocked the past few years. Now, look at this season and tell me they haven’t improved. The super bowl is being held in Minnesota for crying out loud. Quit bitching about a game you refuse to get good at or just suck at. I will keep enjoying Madden 18 as I think it’s the best Madden game since Madden 08 and Madden 10.
I don't have the game but did you test the animations between successful kicks first? Could have been just a normal variation that turned into a blocked kick. If it is scripted, that's sad.
Honestly madden will never be a top tier video game the way we want it to; if they keep making it on a 1 year cycle. I can not fathom how fucking good a madden game would be if the developers sat down and took 2--3 years to make a madden. Sadly we'll probably never see that because there is a football season every year, so EA has to push and keep up with the NFL seasons.

Dude, this pissed me off so much a few months ago. It was in a AFC Championship game, with a routine 40 yard field goal to win the game. Well, the ball was snapped, the kicker stood there for three seconds, and the ball was blocked and returned for a touchdown. This is nonsense, terrible stuff... Why do you post this nonsense after some of your other good points? The game reacts differently to different user inputs. Of course you didn't show the kick meters which affect the kickers timing. The same is true on your SCRIPTED WR/CB animation videos. The timing and the logic are created by user input. Perfect timing on snap jumps, kick meters, throws on WR cuts, play recognition, shifts and yes button presses while the ball is in the air on throws. Scripted, yes the code makes a decision that the timing was off and the kicker lags allowing the block. Is that what you mean by scripted? Then every video game in existence is scripted and this again is nonsense. I for one in this case love that bad user input on the kicking side can lead to the timing of a kick being blocked. It is about time. Yet another improvement in Madden 18, thanks for pointing it out.

I work in the video gaming industry. It's not the "slide" that causes it. That's a glitch in the pivot of the animation when it transitions from idle to kicking. What you DO show in this video is that there is definitely a delay in the start time of the blocked kick animation. The kicker starts the kick later in the blocked kick.

Bayta Librae I've done testing, if you can call it that, on animations in madden. For example when certain animations trigger attributes mean nothing. I've played against a 0 overall team, meaning zero speed and others. This block animation triggers and they have a speed boost to block the kick. Basically the 0 speed slider matters none. On all madden the QB is still pretty accurate too. The game is broken

It’s not scripted whatsoever it’s a gameplay mechanic the other person triggers it then if they have the proper angle and press the block button at the right time then the kick gets blocked now if it’s against the cpu then it gets triggered from a RNG depending on the difficulty it has nothing to do with being scripted it’s not scripted at all. I honestly think the number of casual players far outweighs the more hardcore and sim style players so they either don't notice how bad Madden is or they just don't care. Those of us smart enough to see how bad Madden is and willing to stop buying it make up too small a percentage for EA to really be hurt by it monetarily. Heck, there are enough "hardcore" players that DEFEND Madden constantly so I don't think EA has to worry about losing money any time soon unfortunately.

I have played probably 300 games and kicked countless fgs it is absolute nonsense when the game decides it's going to get blocked. It's not about the step your kicker doesn't start moving until the holder places the ball on blocked kicks while normal fgs he is moving pretty much at the snap as he should be. Not only is it nonsense at the amount of kicks blocked but i'd say conservatively 75% of them are returned for touchdowns and this happens once out of every 3-4 games or so. It's a massive gameplay issue that should have been resolved months ago.

I get blocked at times. Sometimes 2 or 3 times in a game. The kicker literally stands still before he moves to kick at least 2 seconds giving the defender time to get there. Madden 18 and 19 do it.

It was the same thing with the aggressive catching, they would litterally move your defender or offensive receiver into position in order to do the animation. Its so stupid, you can play perfect defense but the game will slide your player into the spot it wants in order to do an animation.

I noticed this early on in M20 and it's also in M21. You can watch your kicker hesitate amd play a noticeably slower animation on every CPU block and nearly every player block, for both kicks and punts. You have very little to do with kick blocks, it all comes down to whether or not the game wants this particular kick to be blocked.

Like it changes the animation to the slower process but ONLY if the opposing player perfectly times the snap. Therefor it’s not really “scripted” in that sense? Against cpu of course no one else is pressing the button so it’s random selection like 99% of the processes in the game.

Scripted isn't the word I would use. I think it's more fair to say it's triggered. When the timing of hitting the jump the snap button is successful then the delay in animation is triggered to give the defender the high chance to get in there and make the block. That's the way they programmed the mechanic to make it work. As much as we would love Madden to be a living breathing simulation of football it's still a video game that is governed by systems within its program to make the game function. That's the way those guys came up with to make that mechanic work.

Dear god i have been losing my mind over the blocked kick animation since they incorperated it back in madden 17. The kicking animation is delayed so the gunner has enough time to block it. This animation has cost me in crucial moments in games on numerous occasions. the game is too animation driven instead of physics and logic based. i think the beginning of the end of quality gaming without all the animations was when the made madden 16 and added the aggressive catch animation.

Your team has 350 yards passing and no turnovers, but if you throw it, it will be an interception or your receiver will drop it.
Why does this happen? Because the game has 90% control over what happens, you have maybe 10%.
And if the game wants something to happen, it happens. You are literally just a passenger when it decides it wants you to win, or lose, or turn the ball over to help the loss happen.

Blocked kicks due to a kicker are because if that kickers awareness. What pretty much happens inside the code is when a situation like this initiated a random check is made like one would make in dungeons and dragons to determine if the kicker screws it up by being late. Blocked kicks when the kicker didn't screw up are possible in game. For instance if a user is controlling a d-lineman to block a kick and the awareness level meets the check and the user jumps at the right time, the kick will be blocked more often than not. These checks are why the ratings like spec catch, awareness, block schredding, etc are never max at 99. 99 doesn't mean perfect, it means 99 times out of 100 theoretically a check will be met with success.

Playing against my friend's I used to block kicks all the time. It's all about what you press the sprint button on a blocker, and how your opponent kicks the ball.
It does that if you time the kicking meter...you must tap R2 on ps4 at the same time as the 2nd kicking meter is coming down...if you time snap correctly you can jump the line like in the video...but dont make it seems like you automatically block the kick cause you don't...I've missed plenty of them when I've jumped the line

It's Gohn! I’ve blocked several kicks. In the drills, it explains if you hit RT as the ball is hiked, it triggers the animation where the kicker slows down. I’m not saying it’s great. You’re not truly blocking the kick you’re hitting RT at the right time and Madden is giving you an animation. This was their solution to people just running in a circle presnap and getting through every time. There are ways to counter this. If you hold A on the third press, the kicker won’t move until you let go. It throws off the timing of the user hitting RT preventing a block animation being triggered.

In NCAA 09 on the PS2 these animations weren’t tied together, if you got off the line fast enough and your player had enough speed to get around the corner you had a chance to block the kick, now all you have to do is press RT in a quick time situation to get a successful blocked kick. Where’s the user skill in that.

I play Madden all the time and I have only experienced two blocked kicks. One of them was definitely slowed down on my part and the defensive lineman completely unguarded came down from the top right of the field to smother my ball as I was hesitating on my windup just like your video.
I’ve been blocking kicks way before they added animations . Back then it was about timing and it still is . Yes there’s an animation, yes your kicker moves slower and yes the player JUMPING the snap gets a speed boost . Hold the X /A longer to throw timing off
Also on the bad kick, look at number 88. He moves backwards a bit early allowing the blocker to go around him. In real football that would've been a false start on the kicking team.

Here’s the thing tho. The way games work, it is probably already determined when you snap the ball, if not when you select the play. It’s a random chance based on whatever stats the devs had. Nothing that the kicker does “causes the kick to be blocked” the kick will be blocked, so that’s the animation that gets played. Let’s not forget that this is still a video game, and is a graphical representation of a programs output. The kicker moving backwards has no impact on the result of the kick. The result of the kick causes the kicker to move backwards. You have the cause-effect backwards

I noticed this when I was playing my friend after I pressed the X button it was moving slow as hell and then it it was blocked. I remember vividly jamming the X button due to the fact of how slow it was moving
It's all about the kick meter. When you stop the power on the red section at the top, it takes longer for the kicker to kick the ball, so it can be blocked. AI does it randomly.

If you change the game type or to competitive, these simulated events don't happen. Just read the settings.

When you go to start a game, you can choose between Arcade, Simulation and Competitive. I had this same issue but it basically tells you that it is "simulated events" aka scripting.
Simulated events still happen in Competition. I just had that same blocked kick animation in a H2H
Sean Kolovich simulation doesn't mean scripted. It means it's supposed to be as close to the real game as far as physics go, or things that can happen in an actual game. While these things such as blocked kicks and turnovers obviously can happen in a real game, that doesn't mean the game has to make them happen. That should be up to the player making the play.
In reality, as a kicker myself, we don’t move exactly when the ball is received by the holder. Snaps speeds are different. When the ball is snapped it takes a little bit for us to be aware and move. And madden is making it realistic to the fact that kickers don’t start their approach at the same time every single time. It changes from snap to snap as each snap is different and we don’t control when the snap it. The holder controls when the ball is snapped, so in reality, Madden is making the game sort of realistic to the fact that kickers don’t know exactly when the ball is snapped, and that they take a second or so longer to approach sometimes compared to other times.
Jake Davis It would make sense, if that’s actually what it was. All the takeoffs for the kickers are the same. The only ones that differ are the ones that are blocked. When the defense times the snap correctly the kicker waits a second longer to takeoff so when he finally does kick it, the gunner is already there. I do it all the time in the solo challenges.
The problem is that its predictable and this is the ONLY way kicks are blocked. Plus, on all madden against the cpu, this happens way too much.

The problem is that the people that play these games and complain have never played a down of real football or watched film on real football in their lives. I get some of the stuff in Madden is going to glitch but 90% of the complaints I see on here really do happen in real football.
Myrick313 it does happen in real football, but doesn't feel organic or natural in Madden. It looks planned, scripted. Outcomes too dependant on animations. Sometimes I can't tackle a runner because he's in an animation with another defender, or I can't control a player because he's about to engage in an animation. The animations and outcomes of those animations are determined before it even starts.

I was doing open practice with punts, because I’m not too good at returning. I thought for a few times if I did the punt return where you send everybody it would be fun to try and block a few. I noticed that when you blocked it, if you were controlling the guy on the far left then he would literally without any different controls juke the blocker and the punter would be much slower. Good to know I’m not the only one seeing this.

I thought everybody knew this already. Now, it's not necessarily scripted; it depends on the timing of when the blocker jumps the line. If the timing is off, the kicker does it's regular motion and knocks down the kick. However, if the timing on hitting the right trigger (or R2) is perfect, the kicker waits a moment, then kicks. If the dive is wrong on the blocker's part, then the kicker will get the kick off. But if the blocker jumps properly, it results in a blocked kick.
A kicker should not be causing his own kick to be blocked.
Yeah, but it's really the only way they can do the animation. If they did it like normal, the blocker would come flying off the side, and it would be incredibly difficult for the opponent to move their player. When the kicker takes extra time, it's almost like a little slow motion for the player to set themselves up and block the kick. Again, the kicker does not cause this to happen. Instead, a good jump off the side triggers the animation to make the kicker step forward at a delay.

Again, they are in the sense that the timing of the blocker's jump determines when the kicker begins his forward motion. However, scripted isn’t necessarily the right word, because it's not like Madden wants a certain player to win. They just have it coded so that a perfect timed jump results in a delayed kicker reaction. Michael MacDonald he isn't say g the game is scripted to have a blocked kick. He is saying that when you or the cpu defender hit the r2 at the exact right time it triggers the slower wind up. That's how they implemented it. The game doesn't decide when a kick is blocked. The player as the defender getting that timing right decides it.

Go to coaching options & they can literally Custom the Defense to play more Aggressive or tweak the whole Defense or offense it's rigged but this plays a part , to make it seem like It's ur fault

In madden 18 if ur attempting a pat,field goal or a punt if ur kicker/punter are slow to kick or in the punters case catch and kick that usually mean that its gonna get blocked but not all the time
The same thing happens on punts, madden made a marketing push this year claiming they did a whole bunch to make it more realistic but as always when they have development cycles as short as they do very little gets improved from year to year. One day they're going to realize maybe a game every two years is more feasible but ill be old and dead by then and everyone will have stopped playing football already.
Blocked kicks have to be scripted, it’s too rare of an event in real football for there to be skill added in the game. Also I wouldn’t call it scripting, more that in the game’s code it says that there’s a 1/50 chance of it happening

I guess I should have said "tried to pick it up again". I am a dumbass and preordered it digitally. I just like knowing I can come home and it's ready to go. Last time I do that with EA. From now on it's disc only. I think I went nearly 2 months without playing it. During that time I've played 2k5 and NCAA 09. Football is so much cleaner on old gen. None of this trash. Funny how EA once made a really fun football game. Now I can't get past halftime without feeling like I'm playing an arcade game that's poorly developed. I hate that you cannot criticize how terrible this franchise has fallen with the fanboys. I get called out and I've bought every madden since back in the SNES days. Can't we all agree that this is not where this franchise should be? I mean honestly, the depth that football had when 2k and EA were battling was awesome. Franchise modes felt deep and alive. Now they feel empty and ignored. The play on the field felt better. I'll take tackles that give more realistic results in 2k and the PS2/Xbox days over what we have now. EA had a great product, now they are milking the cash cow.

The reason why the kick was blocked, had nothing to do with the kicker. It had to do with the Tight End on the very edge ( #88 ). The backwards slide movement that you saw with the kicker, is more pronounced with #88.
He slides back as the ball is hiked, then goes back forward to the line. As he's going forward, the outside edge rusher gets a good jump. As #88 goes back to pick him up, it's too late, and the rusher blocks the kick.
On the XP that was made, not only did #88 not slide back as the ball was hiked, the outside edge rusher didn't come off the edge and went behind the line. This means that #88 successfully blocked the man in front of him.
Watching this in 2020, and the shit never got fixed. It might even be worse. Props to you Mr. Moody for having the stones to hold EA's feet to the fire.

How I look at it is, you don't control what the player does you control what they attempt to do example you don't control if a quarterback throws a bad pass you just control who he attempts to throw it to just like a kick, you don't control how quick he reacts just how he kicks the ball

If people weren’t so simple minded they would simply download a roster update and tweak the the people who block field goals to have a higher chance at blocking field goals. The developers deal with the way stuff happens in game by how the players are in real life. For example, for years the Minnesota Vikings stayed at a 70+ overall. They maybe reached 80 like 2 times. They did really well this season and are the highest rated team in the game. Look at Minnesota’s field goal kicker that kept missing field goals or having them blocked the past few years. Now, look at this season and tell me they haven’t improved. The super bowl is being held in Minnesota for crying out loud. Quit bitching about a game you refuse to get good at or just suck at. I will keep enjoying Madden 18 as I think it’s the best Madden game since Madden 08 and Madden 10.

I don't have the game but did you test the animations between successful kicks first? Could have been just a normal variation that turned into a blocked kick. If it is scripted, that's sad.
Honestly madden will never be a top tier video game the way we want it to; if they keep making it on a 1 year cycle. I can not fathom how fucking good a madden game would be if the developers sat down and took 2--3 years to make a madden. Sadly we'll probably never see that because there is a football season every year, so EA has to push and keep up with the NFL seasons.

it's not scripted it just goes onto that animation when they jump the snap, and u block kicks by jumping the snap, so it's not scripted.

Dude, this pissed me off so much a few months ago. It was in a AFC Championship game, with a routine 40 yard field goal to win the game. Well, the ball was snapped, the kicker stood there for three seconds, and the ball was blocked and returned for a touchdown.
I restarted that game from the amount of bullshit that I witnessed, because it got stolen away from me.
Im all for losing, when its realistic, I clearly had this game in hand. We need realism, first and foremost.....we are being sold NFL Simulation here.

This is nonsense, terrible stuff... Why do you post this nonsense after some of your other good points? The game reacts differently to different user inputs. Of course you didn't show the kick meters which affect the kickers timing. The same is true on your SCRIPTED WR/CB animation videos. The timing and the logic are created by user input.
Perfect timing on snap jumps, kick meters, throws on WR cuts, play recognition, shifts and yes button presses while the ball is in the air on throws. Scripted, yes the code makes a decision that the timing was off and the kicker lags allowing the block. Is that what you mean by scripted? Then every video game in existence is scripted and this again is nonsense.
I for one in this case love that bad user input on the kicking side can lead to the timing of a kick being blocked. It is about time. Yet another improvement in Madden 18, thanks for pointing it out.

I work in the video gaming industry. It's not the "slide" that causes it. That's a glitch in the pivot of the animation when it transitions from idle to kicking. What you DO show in this video is that there is definitely a delay in the start time of the blocked kick animation. The kicker starts the kick later in the blocked kick.
