Attacking White's position in a 5 stone game
This handicap game was played in a 6-1 simul with my group.
A well-planned attack is a good way for Black to make good use of the handicap stones early in the game.

Dear Michael, I really enjoy your videos. I've already watched all of your AGA commentaries (except for the AlphaGo ones because they are way over my head). I see you have a good teaching mindset - focusing on core points to improve for the student.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

In teaching games I often see beginners failing to make use of the tengen stone. Even here your opponent failed to invade your broad extention on the right. If they had made the endgame move you suggested it would have helped to form a large central territory. They did make it useful in opening. It looks like Funabashi made a conscious decision to do this.
How much difference does that stone make in the opening and middle game and what can you do to encourage students to make the best use of it?
