When my friend here in the States told me he was moving back to Calcutta, I tried to talk him out of it--if this is part of what was waiting for him, well, the more fool me.

Actually Mahaganapathim is an original composition by Muthuswami Dikshitar, the great poet and a great musician, Composed in the 18th century. He composed the kriti in devotion to Ganesha. All Carnatic musicians knows this Kriti.

Brilliant. Sui generis, top of its form, jaw-dropping economy of movement (how can one be moving around much when all those notes must be played?!?) expertly paired with passionate delivery by musicians who are all In The Zone. Glorious!
