@@lancelotsuzaku3922 no, cuz believe it or not, there is always someone who wants to fulfill the role. The thing is that we have a big amount of misguided people on what to do with their lives.
I agree with you. It's really nice this mother support their child dreams and don't force them to follow a path. Everyone should be that way, and as you said, with proper guidance
@@lancelotsuzaku3922 It's no different than Korean children going to American schools. As long as their parents support what they're doing and they're immersing themselves into the cultures around them, they're okay. That these two children picked up Korean is pretty good.
Same... i am the type that can’t learn another language only by simple thing like that... but some can... well people are just different haha tho i envy them
They're so adorable and well-behaved! It's great to see native English speakers being so open to having their kids learning a new language, even something like Korean. At a young age, it's so easy to learn a new language, it's smart of them to take full advantage!!! I wish I was that young again so I could learn a language quickly like that :) I remember when I moved to Canada from Korea at age 8, I probably was fluent in English in less than a year. Now, it's a different story... lol
Yeah but Mom should have learned at least a bit after living there 4 years herself. I'd be learning cause those boys would not be plotting behind my back! I'm too nosey. lol
@@ttjohns4821 it's even worse that she probably doesn't work since she can't speak the language and her husband is a programmer so she should have all the time in the world to learn the damn language but she chooses not to..
@@Vendrix86 Mother works. The reason that she can't speak Korean is because she works with Americans meaning her work doesn't require Korean language. Boys learned Korean easily because they went Korean Publuc school. Yeah it'd be definitely easier for her if she learned how to speak Korean but who are we to judge?
That's actually kind of a real thing! I read a study once that said all babies, regardless of race or ethnicity or where they're born- make the same exact sounds. If certain sounds are encouraged and nurtured, they keep making them and slowly forget the ones that aren't. That's why some people from Asia have a hard time making an "r" or "l" sound, while some people from the US have a hard time saying gb or kp, but babies from both places sound the same.
The kids arnt being targeted, korea is. Korea should be a place where everyone is welcome and everyone is treated the same. The same should go for every other country.
@@_Wai_Wai_ no one's saying there's anything wrong with it. What if I, a African American, went to south Korea being fluent in the language and all. Do you think people would be dramatic and praise me for doing something anyone can? This isn't about the boys, it's about how sad the country is.
These 3 girls from Japan came up to me and my friends (we are all black) and asked to take a picture with us. We didn’t really care that much because it’s just a picture. Afterwards we asked why they wanted a picture and one girl said “In Japan there’s no black people, so we wanted a picture so when we go back home we can show our friends.”
When I was in China that's what it was like for me too. I thought they were making fun of me at first but after a while I realized it was just because they've never seen anyone like me and thought I was interesting. I feel like it's fine if they at least ask for a picture first instead of taking one without my permission 😅
don't feel offended by this in South East Asian Countries too they want to take pictures of Caucasians because some rarely see them I've been living with Caucasians for years so im not like those people
I'm Japanese I am very white though If I saw you in real life I would take a picture with you too! I really love black girls, they are just so pure and pretty
Wonder S.L I was in South Korea during summer with my Korean friend (I‘m white) and we were walking around. Later, a huge group of Chinese people came to me and asked for pictures. I was there for around 15 minutes until they all finished taking pictures with me.
Even as a Korean, I noticed how Korea as a society constantly praises Caucasians. Honestly, everyone is right in the comments. These boys are mainly popular because of their race and they speak Korean. Just because of their complexion, Koreans are more open to them. I hope my country can become a place where everyone is welcome. All races and religions included. It is sad to see these kids being held on a higher standard than other foreigners who are also fluent in Korea. I hope we can see those kids as well.

Rick Yao, sure it may not be special but it’s also not as common as it should be. Unfortunately many people who travel or stay abroad choose not to respect or assimilate into the culture. At the very least, she is setting a positive example for her kids. Not everyone does or is capable of that.
@@RickY-gp8gf What is expected of her is to do what is best for her kids as long as it doesn't harm others. The majority of foreigners moving to Korea with children as expats do not send their kids to local schools because of well-known flaws of the Korean education system - an exam-driven, high-pressured environment that focuses on rote learning, low on encouraging creativity and problem-solving, and extremely dictatorial. Korea has the highest teenage suicide rate amongst developed nations and growing up with this education system is a big reason why. If I were to move to Korea as an expat (remember, they didn't immigrate, only moved temporarily), there's no way I would send my kids to Korean Public School. Sure I would find ways for them to interact with local children and learn the Korean language and culture, but the result would be limited due to the fact that they go to English Schools. But why would I put them into an inferior education system that can potentially damage their mental health when we will eventually move back to English-speaking country anyway? What this lady has done IS special and unprecedented. She has taken a huge risk in sending her kids to Korean Public School, and thankfully, it paid off beautifully. To say otherwise tells me you have little clue into the expat life, not just in Korea but anywhere in the world.
@@londonjtc7407 You're absolutely right. I grew up in a diplomatic family and we went to very prestigious and expensive American international or British schools in every country we lived in. This mother did something that isn't common especially for an American.

As a Korean, NO. She exposed her ignorance and low educational background with her answers. Most of answers she replied are totally WRONG, especially about Korean society. I guarantee she haven't any jobs based on career or intelligence here in Korea.
They easily adopt the language of korea because their minds are still fresh for new things and remember that everything is being taught and practiced. 🤔 Respect 🙂
Partly youth, yes. But the major factor is that they’re motivated, and receive loads of practice. They don’t just passively listen to Korean 6+ hours a day, they also have to understand it and speak it in order to have good grades, friends, hobbies.
Agreed .when I was a kid, I used to learn English vocabularies from the cartoons/TV shows, some Japanese sentences from the anime i watched. Hahaha years later who knew I'll be taking degree in languages, I learn French language and it was pretty difficult.
Ya'll missing the point here. It ain't because of their race, it's because of their fluency in Korean at a young age as foreigners no matter what kind of race, people will always be amazed with others especially little kids that speak their language. :)
People of different skin colors are pretty discriminated against in Korea because of bad American portrayals of them in movies and shows. Many Koreans relate being black to being in a gang, violence, etc-- a different race would probably still be praised for knowing Korean so well, but not at all to the extent that these boys are getting. I've never seen a black woman or man in any Korean shows, but I've seen plenty of white people in them-- I really doubt that different races would be treated the same given that imbalance already. I really wish that racism wasn't a thing and stereotyping wasn't a thing or that everyone had the same mindset, but they don't! Please don't deny white privilege because it hurts minorities and stops change!
@@jamesturner4478 It's not your FAULT exactly, but it does exist. White people are more likely to get jobs and opportunities purely because of the positive stereotypes attached to them compared to the negative ones attached to other races. Please don't deny it! It only makes things worse for other races. And I'd prefer not being told to shut up! That is also part of the problem. You can do more research on this subject and THEN try to convince me it doesn't exist-- stating your opinion wildly with nothing to support it is a sign of ignorance.

In the perspective of science, the older people's brain neurons started to slow, just like the division of cells. @@connordrake5713 I didn't say that it was easy to learn a new language as an adult, but it is possible in most cases. My question was not biological, it was societal. The mother is 40ish, and it's a reasonable sign of respect to at least make some effort to learn the language of a country that you reside in. For many immigrants in the US, it's not even an option; they have to learn English in order to survive. @@BudderB0y2222 If you heard, she doesn't outright deny not being able to speak any Korean. She just says it's a challenge. How would you know that she never put in any effort?
A lot of foreign families that move to Asia send their kids to English schools and the kids never properly assimilate into the country. I like that they are respecting the country by learning the language and not making everyone else speak English for them. That being said, I hope Black and Southeast Asian kids with this same situation can be treated with the same love!
It;s the same thing in the USA. If you go to school that doesn't speak your language you are forced to learn English & American culture. If you go to a school that speaks your non-English language you will most likely always be behind. And more likely to speak broken English even as an adult.
That’s one reason I really prefer western education systems, as an Asian. Asking questions is an important part, I can’t just listen and not know what the hells going on. Also I know it’s an Asian thing but, hierarchy systems of respect is honestly a very twisted way of raising children. They are taught to respect people older than them, but not younger or their own age- which is very important, cause everyone should get the same respect.
It’s always an awful cycle. Asian culture has so much oppression because of hierarchical social constructs. People older, wealthier, popular, or important are treated like modern day kings. All of these barriers are so stifling and take away from the main point of human interaction. Not only that, people on the higher social food chain develop shitty personalities because of the spoils of power and the elevation of status. The western education system has it’s own problems but at least it’s a much healthier environment for children. Though whether it’s the “best” for ethnic children not typically white or black is debatable but yes, again, it’d be worse if the opposite happened in an asian school. My point that I was trying to say tho is that having a voice is hard in Asian culture.
•KemiEmi• it really is. I’m lucky to have studied I’m an international school in India where we had ppl from 30 countries. And so I got to learn different cultures appreciate all different kinds of ppl and enjoy the western ways of teaching tho yes, like you said it’s better but still has a way to go. In India since everybody is taught the same way it’s hard to stand up for ur rights and law, in a country where the innocent are punished and the criminals walk around free
yep. Growing up asian makes you look down on younger people. It's a bad thing tbh because you'd find it hard to accept that a younger person has better qualities than you
Woah, I wasnt expecting so much drama in the comments. The kids are sweet. They're learning to respect other cultures and appreciate traditions and language. They will be fine. Good episode!

These boys are popular because firstly they are white American which is Korean's favorite race and also they have a blue eye and blonde hair even speak Korean perfectly that's why they became so popular. If some kids who from maybe Asia or Eastern Europe or Middle Eastern they wouldn't get any popularity in Korea even if they speak good Korean. It's actually sad that Korean obsessed with particularly white blonde or blue eyed British or American but this preference will never change in Korean society
@@followthewhiterabbit8561 You don't get the point. Koreans only loves developed white countires like England, Germany, France and Northern European. I'm sure if you from Eastern Europe like Czech or Hungary or Russia even though you have blue eye nobody would cares in Korea since you start talk English with eastern European accent. for example when Europeans think of Asians they may thinking Japanese is more superior than other Asians right? it's kind of like that Koreans really cares more their background and which country they from not always like because you are just white person. These boys are popular because they are "AMERICAN" and "WHITE"
But Korean people are the ones who had put them in that position and treated them as superiors in first place, the kids seem humble and down to earth, the problem is within the Koreans with so much self-hatred that they idolize everyone who isn't like them... Don't blame them for being treated like that, they didn't enforce it in any shape or form.
They are overly hyped up in Korea simply because they are white children with light hair and light eyes. I'm Korean and live and work in Uijeongbu. There are many foreign children in Uijeongbu who can speak Korean and yet they do not get big exposure. These foreign children in Uijeongbu are from Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. If you live in Korea, check out the child models. Let's be honest. The models dominating the industry are always half white. Being white in Korea or half white is always going to give you more privileges.
I'm pretty sure all those children you mention will be a great ambassador for their country in Korea. Learning the native language is the first step in understanding the culture of that country.
i too am korean and have been living there for almost all my life. there was definitely more praising of white people versus other races, but i think thats a very old conservative way of thinking. i know other blasian models and stars that starred in korean media as well. i dont think its much of a case as it is now, though, the conservative minds still exists. i think these kids are physically adorable, despite their skin color, and i think one of the biggest part of their fame is also the fact that they show so much appreciation and effort into trying to learn and adapt to our culture. kudos to that.
She maybe doesn't have time or maybe she's busy? I'm from Guatemala and we live in Belgium for already 18 years and my mom still doesn't speak French and Dutch that well. Its difficult for her maybe it's also difficult for that woman?
It’s a lot easier to learn new languages at a younger age due to the brain still growing and developing. When it’s fully developed it becomes a lot harder to learn new stuff, especially languages.
I lived in Turkey for 7 years but I don't really know turkish that well.. it's not strange to not know a language even if u lived there for a long time. Maybe she doesn't have time or opportunity, or she simply doesn't want to?

I feel like people don't understand how much Korean people love Caucasian features...idk if this is just me but if they were Black or even Filipino, they would not be getting this much love and attention.
Grecia Castro of course i’ve heard of him and i know his popularity is no joke but i’m more talking about the internalized racism that is prominent in south korea. of course it’s not impossible for someone with dark skin to integrate into korean society but it doesn’t change the fact that people with dark skin are often made fun of and looked down on.
Im korean and black people are also popular in korea, there are many black people who are famous in korea just because they are black and speak korean. but filipino and south east asian are get absolutely no love in korea because they are asian and have dark skin. all you have to do is to go korea and see how they are looked down upon. they basically look like a poor version of koreans (this is not me who said that) Korean society is shitty as hell. i wish all the koreaboos would see it behind the glamorous kpop image.
It's really interesting. But I honestly have to say it's not really that big of a thing to be fluent in korean by children that age. There living there for 4 years going to a Korean school how can they not. I had classmates immigrated to Germany in elementary school becoming fluent within 2 years. It's because it's so rare in Korea to see white people being fluent in Korean.
That is so true, I speak with my own experience, I came to Switzerland from China when I was 12, slightly older than John and Mack when they went to S.Korea and I got semi fluent in German within 2 years and very fluent in about 4 years, had some initial struggle at school but as years went on it wasn't an issue anymore. Kids are naturally good at learning things quickly, the younger you are the faster you can adapt and learn.
Yea I was going to say the same thing. I think people are a little uneducated about child development and don't realize that children's brains are optimized for language learning/absorption. Immerse any typically developing child under the age of 10 in a new language and they will become fluent in a year or so. But I get why they are famous. Koreans are really surprised and amazed when foreigners can speak Korean well and the fact that they're cute boys with blond hair and blue eyes probably gives them points too.
Someone always has to arrive at the party and ruin it all... The video isn't only about them learning the language in a short amount of time, it's about the parents decision to move into a completely different culture, it's about pursuing what is best for your children's happiness.
I wonder how the kids would transition moving back to the US. They would no longer be famous. They may even be ostracized by their peers for their non-American culture.
@The Wolverine im not white, im American born Chinese from American parents. Doesn't matter your race, returning to America is difficult after spending an extended period of time in an Asian culture, and not the Chinatown version of it in America.
this is an amazing video. I got so impressed by the interview with the kids' mom. She knows what their kids should feel in their lives which is "happy " where as most of Korean parents just think their children must do nothing but "study". As an adult, being a good student at school doesn't necessarily guarantee your happiness in your life but knowing how to a build good relationship with others is more important and that can lead them to a happier life.
I guess because in the USA is normal for children have extracurriculars that it surprised me too that the teachers would think the children should only study, house, school. I'm glad the mom is letting them be in TV and supervising wherever they go. As long as they are doing well in school it shouldn't be a problem.
Even in India parents force their children to achieve the dreams which they couldn't. India needs to change. They need to think beyond the society. I am an Indian and i wish my future kids to be happy and not suffer from the depression like i did.
Sooo, they learned Korean because they attended school in Korea?? Hmmm, very much like when immigrants come to the US and learn English... much ado about nothing.
Yea, especially if you have to speak a certain language daily in order to communicate and stuff... ofcourse you're gonna learn the language after some time. It's nothing out of the ordinary especially considering their age.
There's a big difference. 1) Korea is an overwhelmingly mono-ethnic country. It is not a country that accepts (not in large numbers) or is built on immigration. While more and more foreigners live in Korea and are learning to speak Korean, a vast majority of Koreans are still not used to seeing foreigners speak in flawless Korean or acting with Korean mannerism (apart from on TV). It's a novelty and it delights them to see that someone has taken the effort to assimilate to the degree that these children have. They take it as a compliment. 2) Most, if not all, foreigners moving to Korea with children (so fully non-Koreans) send their kids to International Schools where there's limited interaction with local population. While these kids will pick up some Korean language skills simply by living in Korea and watching Korean TV, they and their parents live a largely segregated life that is vastly different from that of their Korean neighbours. John and Mac on the other hand, attend Korean Public School and have not only adapted but assimilated to the Korean culture to an astonishing degree. And this is when their parents had the ability and the option to send them to International Schools just like the other 99.9% of the expat kids. As a parent myself, I acknowledge that this is NOT an easy decision to make by any means, especially given the well-known flaws of the Korean education system (why do you think so many Koreans send their kids abroad to be educated?). Sure their "exotic" Aryan looks didn't hurt their chances of being noticed or being accepted warmly by the TV audience, but to write off their success as being entirely contingent on that single factor is just plain lazy and ignorant of the realities in Korea.
He had to go through bad circumstances just to get to where he is that's what makes the black guy's story more appealing to everyone else compared to this one don't be purposefully ignorant these kids have no struggle besides why would they they're just kids they're white skin is also a bonus in Asia
@@loweni7460 Ah sorry, I can see how my comment would come off as that. I'm Korean and I had to pay attention to the subtitles. Insert sad emoji. The age when they first came to Korea, at their age, their brain absorbs language, any language, like a sponge. It’s amazing that she let their kids learn Korean too!! I wish more parents could be that open-minded and understanding! I also really like it that she wasn’t prejudiced about a country when she knew nothing about it. Especially when she said that you need to learn how to adjust to a new environment no matter what country you are in, that kind of touched me. Not many people can be accepting like that. It was interesting to hear her talk about the culture differences too and how she deals with it. I respect her so much!! I mean no disrespect when I ask the following question. I honestly want to know. Does the success of the boys have to do with their race? Are they popular with Koreans because they represent the western ideal of blonde hair, blue eyes & pale white skin? I hear many Koreans behave very differently (read negatively) when faced with foreigners of color. Is that true?
Way to go Allison! I have three teenagers who were born in the States but they don’t speak Korean as nearly. They all attended Korean language school when they were in elementary school though. Seriously, I'm not being sulky or jealous here but those kids are not famous in Korea at all 😅 I mean, Sam okyere and Lucky are well known among people cause they were on a really popular show as regulars. I can now recognize that they are really smart and cute as I watch this video But I've never heared about them before.
That’s so weird being fascinated by kids that speak a foreign language perfectly. That’s absolutely normal and most kids who migrate at a young age in a new country are likely to learn the language so they become fluent 🤦🏻♀️
@Tidder T How can someone be this ignorant. They're not being hailed just because they're white, they're being popularized due to their appearance (cuteness, etc), intelligence and behavior. There's not facts to support your claim that black immigrant kids in korea are disregarded by the media just because they're black, and you're the racist one here for assuming that. And travellinh learning the korean language and being incredibly fluent in it after 1 and a half years of studying and being a foreigner (since South Korean is not a popular language among foreigners) adds to the wow effect and is indeed special, the fact that you can't even identify which is above average is you being ignorant. Han Hyun-min- search his name up, he's a popular black model in Korea and had appeared in the Korea media (tv, yt and whatnot) for being an ATTRACTIVE black model. Damn ignorance right here smh
I love this video so much. It's very interesting. I like how the mom raised her kids and her values. I wonder if they're going to permanently live in Korea
These parents are fantastic. They are guiding these kids through some amazing life experiences. They are polite, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural. What a wonderful way to grow up!
*Interesting* Asian boss please make a video on brown or black people's kids. It will be really interesting to see their life and the kind of treatment they get from koreans.
Han Hyun-min- search that name up, they're being praised for having a nice personality and being attractive. Han Hyun-min is a black model so do not try to input race into this without any facts.
guy thats not what she’s saying. She’s saying they’re really cute kids white or not... But if they weren’t white they wouldn’t look like that. That’s like me saying apple or not this apple is really good.. The only one jumping to conclusions here is you egg boi.
@@yuhboi3968 uh yeah, that's not what she meant. 😂😂 The comment didn't meant in a negative way. White or not white, they're are still cute kids either way is what she meant. A negative comment wouldn't have a lot of likes.
The fact that he (John) pointed out “knowing your place” is so crazy.. My culture (like Korean) is all about respect and being respectful to those older than you.. I love hearing an average American kid having to learn that and acknowledge it.. Also, the part where the mom was talking about how Americans ASK ASK ASK.. crazy how different the cultures are..
I'm Asian but still.. I always ask the doctor just like she said, bcs apparently that's the patient rights to know about their disease and what treatment are they getting.
Foreign students used to be an important part of my life. This was in America. It was terribly frustrating to me when I encountered one that could not question. I wasn't any good at detecting when they didn't understand me, results were not good.
I understand that, but it’s also kind of sad to hear a kid say something like, “Know your place”, because i know korean society has an age hierarchy, and i dread to know what happened in the Sewol tragedy where hundreds of young people were forced to die and do nothing because of the same hierarchy. In a way it can be a good thing but also a bad thing especially for young people
Pretty much every foreigner that goes to university in Korea take a year to learn the language, and learn it very well.. So 4 years is actually a long time to learn it. Really nothing special here
I'll be waiting for Asian Boss to feature a Korean or any Asian family who moved to a majority English speaking country, sent their kids to a public school for four years, said kids became fluent in English through immersion and have become "famous" for doing so.
But that's the thing -- English is the global language, so no one becomes famous for learning it. It's just not special. In Korea, expats don't generally assimilate into the culture like that. These kids are famous because they're different from the vast majority of other white people who live in Korea.
@@afr11235 Then what if we reversed the scenario? How about any other race, young kids that speak Russian fluently or any scandanavian language in their country, would they become famous? I speak for Asians (mongoloid) when I say Europeans tend to be looked up to.
Why would that be interesting? English is an easily accessible language and Asian families are in America and other English speaking countries in droves. There's nothing unique or interesting about that. I don't care about these children but the opposite of them is much less interesting cause it's more common.
@@Maialeen no english isn't easy you can't say that.. for example there is a study that shows that chinese korean japanese turkish people have problems with english so its easier for them to learn an asian language rather then english
@@Hhhh22222-w I think that's a great example. I think if two photogenic kids of an Asian expat moved to Norway or Greece and after a couple years at the local school spoke the language fluently, they'd be just as famous.

The mom here makes a lot of good points about the differences in social structures between what's _normal_ in the US and what's _expected_ in South Korea. The school system in the US definitely encourages students to ask questions, and that transfers to adulthood where most of us Americans are by nature and social _training_ more curious and want to ask things. The example with a doctor and a school setting is quite spot on. I'm a Korean by ethnicity but by nationality and birth I'm an American. I've always lived in the US. So I've had instances where in school, I tended to sit and listen more often than not. Sometimes, the teacher would ask me if I understood what was being taught that day. I presume it was because I wasn't asking questions and instead just listening and absorbing information. Heck, my elementary school initially put me in the ESL (English as a Second Language) program assuming that because I'm Korean and I wouldn't raise my hand and question things that I didn't understand English. I was a kid so they put me in ESL and I just to the room where they taught ESL. That teacher there immediately noticed that it wasn't necessary at all and then the next day I went back to the _normal_ classroom. It makes sense and it's totally true to learn to adapt and fit in with whatever country you are in. It's important to learn to see how others behave. That point about the teachers being blunt about not liking the kids being on TV is quite true. Most people born in Korea have a _no filter_ mentality whereas in the US, people are often taught to and practice the notion of being considerate of how others might feel and speak through a _filter_ . It's impressive that the mom is most concerned for the kids to be happy ultimately. The only thing I'm concerned is if their career on TV fades and people loses interest, then what will they do? They'll still need to go get their GED (at least) and then maybe get a university degree. Perhaps they could get a degree in theater, performing arts, etc and then continue their acting career in South Korea or maybe try their hand at Hollywood? I mean they are from California so if they eventually move back to the US, I think that could be a good choice for them.
Why there's just a few people comment on how well-mannered these kids was? And their mom, I seriously amazed by her mind. And when she starts to tell on how they get into Korea, just literally because they wanted new experience is just mindblowing. Huge respect for their mother, and yes everyone (specifically parents) should have the mindset of her! She's just really interesting.
Damn 1 1/2 years and they got this good in korean? Thats... impressive... also given the fact they regularly had to attend school like normal koreans during that time
exposure and interactions with their Korean classmates several hours a day are what helped them become fluent in the language. And kids pick up a new language much easier than adults would
akantorman1 My former french teacher said she and her sister had the same experience when she lived in France when they were little. She even picked up all the mannerisms while her parents did not. Immersion is a wonderful thing.
If you think just attending school in a foreign country makes you become fluent, you have no idea how hard it is to learn a language... especially if they differ as much as English and Korean.
Oohh Gosh I love their mother. She just thoughts about the happiness of her children. Well yeah...i think all modern moms nowadays should learn about it from her. Ur children's Life not only about high grades and get in to the National University.
Nah they’d be regular kids here but became big shots there because of their blonde hair and blue eyes. Looks like mom is enjoying fame. My kids are celebrities! She said Appearing on TV was life time opportunity and she didn’t mind them not going to school that day. Even teachers are warning the mom. Seems like the kids are not enjoying stressful education there and want a way out.

They are soooo adorable! They have the kind of looks and personality you need to go into TV I think. Being blond and blue eyed just adds that extra novelty.
I love their mom's approach to parenting. I understand how she might face opposition from others but I love the clear-cut way she explains the choices she makes for them. She isn't at all controlling of any aspect of their life; they are given complete freedom to explore their interests. I don't think I've ever come across a parenting style that I've respected and agreed with so much, real props to John and Mack's mom.

I was fluent in baby language when I was born, but I forgot everything after 3...

How many Russian or Eastern European kids are famous in korea?
very true in hong kong as well
Kinda weird how a lot of americans idolize Korea now and Koreans idolize white people
i too am korean and have been living there for almost all my life. there was definitely more praising of white people versus other races, but i think thats a very old conservative way of thinking. i know other blasian models and stars that starred in korean media as well. i dont think its much of a case as it is now, though, the conservative minds still exists. i think these kids are physically adorable, despite their skin color, and i think one of the biggest part of their fame is also the fact that they show so much appreciation and effort into trying to learn and adapt to our culture. kudos to that.

Koreans are really surprised and amazed when foreigners can speak Korean well and the fact that they're cute boys with blond hair and blue eyes probably gives them points too.
ikr
Someone always has to arrive at the party and ruin it all... The video isn't only about them learning the language in a short amount of time, it's about the parents decision to move into a completely different culture, it's about pursuing what is best for your children's happiness.

this is an amazing video. I got so impressed by the interview with the kids' mom. She knows what their kids should feel in their lives which is "happy
" where as most of Korean parents just think their children must do nothing but "study".
Bingo! So ordinary
But it's been happening in the US for such a long time.
100% 🙌👏
Why are people saying it’s just because they’re white, there’s an asian boss video about a black dude famous in Korea because he’s fluent too :/

But that's the thing -- English is the global language, so no one becomes famous for learning it. It's just not special. In Korea, expats don't generally assimilate into the culture like that. ...I can't say that goes to every mom in the world
The mom here makes a lot of good points about the differences in social structures between what's _normal_ in the US and what's _expected_ in South Korea.
Aww their mom is just so nice! This is an example of good parents
Damn 1 1/2 years and they got this good in korean? Thats... impressive... also given the fact they regularly had to attend school like normal koreans during that time
attending school is what makes them fluent lol
exposure and interactions with their Korean classmates several hours a day are what helped them become fluent in the language. And kids pick up a new language much easier than adults would
akantorman1 My former french teacher said she and her sister had the same experience when she lived in France when they were little. She even picked up all the mannerisms while her parents did not.
Immersion is a wonderful thing.
it's not that strange. They're on the age when learning a new language is easy for them.
Kid : Spams the button
Stephen : Don’t mind me just gonna take it from you...
Baymax The Greatest must be great living in a perspective where you'll be worshipped and praised just because of your whiteness. this world's gotta change.
She assimilated into a Asian country = praised/famous kids
“Enjoying stressful education”? 🧐 wth?!
Sounds like you're salty as hell lol
They are soooo adorable! They have the kind of looks and personality you need to go into TV I think. Being blond and blue eyed just adds that extra novelty.
Why do I always read comments asking people to stop hating more than I read actual hate comments.
I’m fully Hispanic and my friend is Jamaican and Hispanic, we’re moving to Korea for school jxjjd i swear we better get this famous for speaking fluent Korean

Woah their korean ia veey good, their accent is very good, it's way more natural than most korean-speaking foreigners i've ever known. 역시 애들은 좀 빠르다..
This is awesome. Glad they are having the time of their lives in Korea. I’m a little jealous that they are so fluent in Korean. Here I’m trying to learn Japanese and it hasn’t been easy. Granted I’m not immersed in the language or culture nor am I young like them anymore. Keep living your dreams John and Mack, you are an inspiration for many. And I love that your mom is so supportive of you two as well! :-)
she seems like such a nice parent :)
