Begs the question on why these managers have to be so public about it. If your job is to literally just make your client follow TOS and speak on her behalf on business matters and NOT be a recurring guest in the streams, and you know that your presence in a very personal, authentic media like streaming is going to be a problem, why not just be anonymous? Seriously, just have your personal accounts along with your burners, lurk in the chat and in the socials, and privately message your "client" for concerns. Hell, you could even control the main social media account for the Vtuber, making sure all posts go through you first. It's the most sensible thing to do business-wise. Your chuuba is the face, you run the back-end, and everyone is none the wiser.
A lot of delusional parasocial chatters would love to have 1v1 discord cellphone chats behind the scenes. Them Volunteer to be a mod or manager for free is an easy in. Always be wary if you are a streamer.
This is the biggest problem with trying to hire a manager/assistant. Finding someone with relevant knowledge, experience and proven trustworthiness is very hard and probably above what you can pay. Anyone working for cheap is highly likely to have alterior motives.
I saw a tweet from Legal Mindset that reinforces the idea that you should try managing things yourself first. And when workload starts to pile up, hire assistants first, not manager.
@@ak_nora They are right. No point hiring a manager when you do not know what to manage and have nothing you need to manage. To say nothing of the fact that most successful channels do not even get big enough to need one.
Based yes, but people for some reason want to watch girls they can have a shot at. People who admitted they had a boyfriend often lost tons of viewers and donations especially. We are talking about a person's income who's job it is to play a character. Is it shitty? Yeah, but the other side of the coin is a lot of vtubers would lose a lot of money. That is why most people don't talk about relationships and just play the character
that said i'm also completely okay not knowing regardless if they're not trying to "sell" GFE or BFE stuff or not. Personal relationships is a personal matter and there's no reason as a viewer to ever know about them, i'm not trying to bang them anyways.
would be a refreshing breath of fresh air if we get a successful Vtuber couple, like an actual irl couple doing Vtubing, like we already have twins doing Vtubing but aside from possible community backlash, i'm guessing companies might not want to take the risk of the couple separating and dragging the vtuber gig along with it.
The biggest deception from streamers and vtubers isn't them pretending to be chronically online femcels while dating "managers." It's that a large portion of them are married to or dating "normal" men. I work in a blue collar field and date a streamer. Other guys I know who are with streamers and vtubers are everything from managers, to prominent community members and donators, to regular guys with regular jobs who literally never participate in the streaming scene at all. You may get lucky and date someone who you met first as a streamer, but please realize your odds are not good at all. If you want to get into a relationship, do it irl. Do not try to talk to streamers or vtubers in hopes of starting a relationship. You're falling in love with a character, no matter how "really her" they seem. Even Pippa, even Jelly, etc. The one you think is definitely a khhv is the one married with a child.
Weird how you know so much about this but I won't judge. I guess I can kind of understand why guys would fall for these vtubers and egirls, but if you ever talk to a real girl at all, you'll know that this is just entertainment. It's para social relationships, if you can even call it that. Internet friends can become real friends, but whether you actually become that is the crucial difference. Being able to tell fiction from reality is what allows you to enjoy the fiction a lot more, so these delusional people are just missing out. Treat it like an experience and you're fine, like watching a science fiction movie. It's great to get into it, but don't take it too seriously once it's all over. You're not sitting in front of the screen 100% of the time, are you? I mean, I sure hope not. I love the vtubers world. But the whole point is to enjoy the contents and join the communities, and have a lot of fun. That's more than enough, and there is absolutely no need to go beyond that. I feel like the people seeking something beyond that are just missing out on something perfectly good over here. 😅
"He is not boyfriend trust me please, because I'm totally single and definitely not because I'm scared of losing viewers and my biggest payers" It just screams its all about the numbers and that just doesn't sit well with me if the main driving point is money
Yep, and it's one of the most universal pieces of advice given by almost all major content creators. "Do it because you like doing it, not because you're in it for money. Odds are you won't even succeed at making any real amount of money, even less that you'll be able to live off of it alone, and even less that you'll find legitimate success and become rich." I've always been able to tell when a content creator is purely in it for the money, and not because they're actually interested in being a content creator, or enjoy making the content they make. It's immediately obvious, and is always a turn off. And it's so blatantly apparent with streamers, in particular, as they often won't even be able to answer basic questions about the game they're playing, etc., and won't be able to retake reactions and whatnot which leads to either blatantly fake reactions, or bland ones where you can tell they don't really care at all.
A lot of vtubers will say that viewers who care about streamers' relationship status are mentally ill, need to touch grass etc. I don't think this part is very controversial, but the necessary conclusion is that streamers who lie their audiences about their relationship status are quite literally deceiving mentally ill people for money. Not a good look when you put it that way.
So true. When someone plays a gacha game it's the evil company's fault for being predatory with the monetization and preying on gambling addicts and minors. But when it's a female streamer building her entire character and community around the GFE she provides, it's the viewers fault? These Vtubers are doing it for the money, they could be honest about their relationships but they don't want to cut a part of their audience. And then they go crying when the simps she nurtured turn against her when the lie is exposed, accusing the "parasocials" or whatever. Schrödinger's feminism: a woman is simultaneously a victim and empowered, until something happens. Then she chooses which state benefits her the most. It's literally that
And those viewers too, personally I'd stop watching out of respect for the relationship, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth especially if they do certain things that cater to certain fans. I doubt it's all simps thinking "oh no we no longer have a chance" maybe some are like "wow this girl is really spending hours with strangers on the Internet who watch her just to drool all over her, and she's feeding them while she has a boyfriend." It's either exploitative or she's going behind the back of our fellow man.
I don't even watch vtubers (streams) but I just avoid the ones that are in a relationship. It isn't parasocial for me, I just watch clips and extended highlight for the cuteness and funny (coincidence I swear) not the GFE. It just makes me feel uncomfortable or undignified? Like I'm being cucked or something somehow, it's not exactly that extreme but hard to explain, and I have a feeling I'm not the only one like this.
Female streamers (especially Vtubers) always get wrapped around in bubble wraps and rainbows whenever you question their behavior. It makes it harder to filter the psychos out of this niche than it already is.
The fallout from these posts has been nothing but glorious. Both "managers" and indie vtubers have been absolutely (sorry to use this meme phrase but it actually fits here) coping and seething like no tomorrow. "Managers" over being called out as simps/groomers, and indie vtubers for taking advantage of feelings they know their free "managers" have.
And they don't know that the best response to prove your innocence is looking at that post long and hard... and just go about your day. If it ain't about you, then it ain't about you. You don't have to defend the honor of -2views and their e-boytoys.

I worry about potentially sketchy power dynamics, if you have the person who basically has control over a lot of your infrastructure AND you're in a relationship with them that can very bad very quickly. Shondo is also right about how unnecessary Managers are for most VTubers, corpo Vtubers have managers because generally they're a lot more than just a streamer with a model. Hololive Vtubers are also singers, dancers, voice actors, maybe all 3 at once in addition to streaming! They have various lessons to attend to be better at all those things, language lessons to better facilitate operating within the company, at events and with other talents along with meetings regarding what events are going to be happening, who is doing what and more. Those folks need managers because they have so much more going on in addition to any corporate to corporate discussions that happen. Most Vtubers aren't and will not be them or operating in the same spheres as them and simply won't need it, when you're getting Gamersupps and Reycon calling you even then you don't really need a manager, you probably to pay a contract lawyer to look over things and get into the habit of doing that however.
Best part is when the "managers" make themselves a mod. Then they ban anoyone who makes her laugh or says a lewd joke. Its painful to watch too because that specific mod gets way more attention then the rest of the chat. Just tell chat they got cucked already jeez.
I've seen small TH-camrs that barely pull double digits selling merch like who is your market? You barely have a fan base you don't need a manager and you don't need merch
Eh. I'd agree if the only goal is to make money but tbh if a smaller vtuber wants to make merch for their community I see no issue with that as long as they understand what they're getting into.
Thats a reason i like vex, she doesnt beat around the bush about it or try to hide it. Zolon is her husband, im fairly certain he at least mods for her streams, if not more. She doesnt play the parasocial game like other Vtubers
Curious, the big indies I follow do have managers, sometimes several. And I mean paid staff. Below that some do have volunteer managers when they reach a certain size, sometimes. But we're talking exceptions here, most Vtubers, in the grand total, have a fairly small audience and don't need those roles. Actually it's better that they learn those tasks themselves a little, first, to better handle delegating them when they grow and pick competent staff.
I'm sure both her and her boyfriend are laughing while seeing such comments. 😄 Come to think of it, she _does_ act kinda similar to Mikeneko (Rushia)... and we all know how that one ended up...
@@AlexRaylightrushia lost herself at the end by leaking sht with other company members. Shondo is in no company like Hololive. The only thing she can get is starting a beef with other vtuber but I doubt she is that stupid
Having a manager kinda became a part of the "vtuber 101" culture, like paying an absurd amount of money for a model, smaller vtubers definitely should not be wasting money in this, it reminds me of when the TH-camr boom happened and there was a lot of people wasting money on expensive cameras and microphones to have their videos reach 100 views, focus on you content first instead of thinking that you need to pay up front to get anywhere
Honestly the only exception to this rule I can think of is probably Saruei, since I'm pretty sure she pays her manager and hired them cause she kept getting into drama for being rude(french)
Dokibird also comes to mind, as early on after the redebut she had a manager who is known for having managed way bigger people than her, including iirc Xqc. Then again, girl literally started up her own company and is a CEO now, so she's not exactly ordinary. She's also known to be very, very adamant about paying anyone who does anything at all for her, something that actually got her into trouble with a certain rainbow company in the past.
Makes sense when it's legit; some people just wanna focus on the art and don't wanna worry about the business side of things; and sometimes people are ambitious and gamble on putting the work for free to get their name out and once they (the "group" ) start making money then it becomes a paid job. But I can see how there could be situations where the concept is used to abuse naive individuals.
Theres should be a clear line of someone who is A manager and a professional manager for a living. a professional manager is someone who secretly does the heavy lifting that makes the talents better than who they were before they met. So far these so called managers are people who understand common entertainment but doesnt have the skill or drive to give the talents a chance to actually grow. a good manager is important a mediocre manager is useless at best. if anything its worse because no one is winning, the manager is basically an intern that gets no money but does all the grunt work and the talent doesn't grow.
Shondo is so freaking based! I am an indie VTuber myself and those "vtuber managers" mostly come off as some of the most arrogant and unlikable people on the internet! And the VTubers whose managers are their boyfriends are lying to the fans, I got NO RESPECT FOR THOSE VTUBERS!!
if you have 30 viewers you don't need mods at all, like, that's few enough that you probably still know every single viewer by name. "hey steve could you maybe not say that in chat please" lmao or you just ban them, sure it's 20% of the active chatters, but not exactly a strenuous overwhelming need for moderation
@@Izoowoo I disagree, the streamers who intentionally manipulate the portion of their audience that are mentally vulnerable and unwell are partially to blame.
@@Izoowoo No I think it's the same. If you cultivate a culture of "we know what's really going on despite no one saying it" then you inherently cause that culture to bleed into other streamers too just because you don't want to outright say what you're doing and instead deceive a part of your audience. There's clearly an intent to deceive otherwise they would outright say the truth.
Facts. My “intern” is my best friend. It’s an on going joke but yes I for one also believe that vtubers are and should be honest. I don’t tell people everything but I am as transparent as I feel is needed to be to build and maintain trust. Also Umbra would be my manager by Shondos logic here. For transparency Umbra is my cat.
I remember Matara talking about similar thing where she had discord & chat mods but for some reason they did not want money for that work. That concept baffles me a bit. The only way doing work pro-bono makes sense in my head is if you want to cozy up with the Vtuber while not having to actually do much work, since they don't actually pay you.
If it's just like "yeah I'll mod whenever I feel like it" I can understand doing it for free. But if the streamer wants mods who are there consistently watching then it makes sense to get paid.
To be fair, there are cases where a manager could literally just be a friend that wants to help. Immediately assuming that he's just trying to get some just seems like a wilful misinterpretation.
Yeah its definitely willful misinterpretation here. I'm not saying there's not people trying to get some out there but people are gonna hivemind here in a comment section for their vtuber instead. Not everyone is interested in banging everyone. Its actually a narrative that should be discouraged anyways that you dont get with them for that.
I really enjoy the way Shondo talks about the administrative side of vtubing. It's not a field I have any interest in participating in, but the way she explains is interesting.
Most Vtubers are honest. Uh yeah most Vtubers lie constantly and in ways that are legitimately harmful to their viewers. I can not think of a group of people that deserve to be preyed upon by other deceptive people more.
If a small indie has a manager either 2 things are happening. Either A the guy is decieving the girl that she needs a manager when she doesnt or B the girl is lieing about the manager being her boyfriend. In both instances someone is being lied to.
Yeah, it's true. A big fleshtuber like Amouranth hid a husband for years. It's much easier to hide boyfriends as a Vtuber so I just assume they all have.
Yeah, when nearly all of them claim to be single, i mean really? Either they are all Girlfailures, or they have someone, Layna comes to mind, I like her content, but there is no way that at 33, she isn't married, or dating someone, frankly I don't care, I just enjoy the content, but really? are they all really girlfailures NEETs?
My perspective is this: many vtubers that are not lucrative have a day job. If your day job has long hours, you may want someone to help with the micro of managing a stream so that way it can not overwhelm you. I've got friends who are small i indie vtubers and while none of them have managers, there's also a ton of things that they just do not have time for because they have full-time day jobs in addition to the streaming gig that hasn't taken off the way they'd like it to. If they had a manager, even just in the form of a mod who helps plan things and do some of the tedium, they would be capable of a bit more. So I get it, the wanting to have a manager. But at that point, they really only need an overzealous mod with admin perms, not a manager, which another friend of mind who joined a corpo and got a manager that way had beforehand (she still has that mod, he just doesn't need to do as much and has more time for his other 39-ish streams he mods for).

Shondo is trying to let us know subtly that she has a boyfriend manager. It's so jover.
And this is why Shondo deserves all the uppies

This is the biggest problem with trying to hire a manager/assistant. Finding someone with relevant knowledge, experience and proven trustworthiness is very hard and probably above what you can pay.
Anyone working for cheap is highly likely to have alterior motives.
Hearing Shondo snorting at a 2view having a "manager" scratches a very particular itch.
I saw a tweet from Legal Mindset that reinforces the idea that you should try managing things yourself first. And when workload starts to pile up, hire assistants first, not manager.
@@ak_nora They are right. No point hiring a manager when you do not know what to manage and have nothing you need to manage.

Honestly based, I’d rather know the person I’m watching is in a relationship then be lied to about what is really going on.
Unfortunately you're in the minority, most vtubers hide their relationship status for a reason
would be a refreshing breath of fresh air if we get a successful Vtuber couple, like an actual irl couple doing Vtubing, like we already have twins doing Vtubing but aside from possible community backlash, i'm guessing companies might not want to take the risk of the couple separating and dragging the vtuber gig along with it.

AFAIK Pippa has a boyfriend IRL.
It just screams its all about the numbers and that just doesn't sit well with me if the main driving point is money
Yep, and it's one of the most universal pieces of advice given by almost all major content creators.
"Do it because you like doing it, not because you're in it for money. Odds are you won't even succeed at making any real amount of money, even less that you'll be able to live off of it alone, and even less that you'll find legitimate success and become rich."
I've always been able to tell when a content creator is purely in it for the money, and not because they're actually interested in being a content creator, or enjoy making the content they make.
Wait a minute, I think I just found an exciting new solution to both my joblessness and singleness.

All the normal people either left twitter or don't reply because they're normal and have normal things to do with their life.
>hopeful unpaid "managers" being exposed for their true intentions
>indie vtubers exposed for exploiting unrequited feelings of love, often knowingly
It's twitter, big baby mad is their default emotion.
It makes it harder to filter the psychos out of this niche than it already is.

more great takes like this and I MIGHT send a *LOVE* letter too
Got a flashback to Kirsche talking about a "manager" who offered his services to a vtuber with the explicit intention to date her.

Kinda reminds me of stuff with the girl from Needy Streamer Overload.
I can imagine this stuff happens more often than people care to admit for sure..
I know a guy from high school that went hard into trying to be a streamer and he paid his mods like 15 a week and he had 4 viewers.

They obviously want to get paid in nature
To be fair, there are cases where a manager could literally just be a friend that wants to help. Immediately assuming that he's just trying to get some just seems like a wilful misinterpretation.
