  • Coda singing 'Sí Bheag, Sí Mhor' a track from their latest CD 'O Carolan in Song' recorded in Matt Molloy's Yard Bar, Westport, Ireland. This is said to be the first song that Carolan composed, at the home of a friend, Mr. Reynolds, near Letterfian, Co. Leitrim. A fellow harper and poet, Reynolds encouraged Carolan to try his hand at composing lyrics for the Legend of Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór (the site of a great battle between the fairies). It is believed that Fionn Mac Cumhaill and his Fianna were defeated in battle between these two hills. Some believe Fionn is buried under Sí Bheag and a hero of the opposing side under Sí Mhór. The first two lines are in English and the rest in the Irish language.
Composed by Turlough O'Carolan, Coda have cast their harmonic magic on nine of these rare songs, most often heard as instrumental tunes and rarely sung. 'O' Carolan in Song' is Coda's third album and was released in Nov 2023 by Laoise Kelly, who was the brainchild of this project. All songs were taken from the book 'The Complete Carolan Songs and Airs' arranged by Caitriona Rowsome.
Coda, from Westport, Co Mayo, is a group of seven singers and musicians that sing a selection of both a capella and self-accompanied songs. Check them out at codasinging.com where this and other CDs can be purchased. It will also be available for digital download shortly.

I've never heard lyrics before to this iconic melody. If anyone can sing beautiful harmonies it is Coda. Haven't seen much of them on TH-cam for a while, which is a real shame as IMHO, they are superb. Thank you for posting. Welcome back !!!

Si beag si moor is my all time favourite tune. I’ve never heard it sung before. Can you do it in Irish? I’ve loved you guys ever since I got my first IPad. It’s a gift to hear you again. I love your acapella stuff but this is magic.
