At the time of working on the song it was my workflow to lower them by -15dB so it allowed for easier gain staging when finalizing my track. All it does is add a little bit more control; my workflow has changed though and I no longer do it. As for your 2nd question: the knob is a macro knob automating a bunch of effects such as a delay, reverb & eq. Pretty sure it’s the Bass Kleph easy wash out rack you can download for free! It gives a similar effect as Endless Smile, in case you know what that plug-in does.
