+charly forges I'm an American and have never traveled to France, sadly. It amazes me how much the American cities have changed, while the European cities remain the same. We just can't leave things alone in the USA and perhaps this is why, to go back and see what once was. France is Beautiful!!
charly forges I think it's because not much has changed in Paris over 100 years. It's wasn't destroyed during the war like Berlin, London or Dresden, it hasn't had significant architectural improvements like New York or Chicago. Paris had its boom in the 1800's and is pretty much still the same. What is interesting is seeing pictures of Paris prior to the Haussmann redesign. Seeing pictures of old, medieval, dingy Paris is fantastic. It was such a different city.
The central core has changed little architecturally since 1890, because so much of the modern buildings have been put at its edge - La Défense and La Porte d'Italie
