    Nice work. How about using your CNC for a digitizer. Just place
    the windshield on the machine and measure the coordinates at the
    corners and along the curvature. This worked great for me.

      George Butty great idea, I will do that now.

    Oh I was confused haha. You're designing the car around the windshield! I am wondering how much a truly custom windshield would cost. It only needs to be curved in one direction though, not compound shape. And it's for a boat, so I'll probably make it myself out of acrylic or polycarbonate glass. But real glass and ideally double pane would be nicer

    you could also probably place that windshield under you router and then manually probe it with a spring loaded spindle "probe" and then manually record the DRO to map the surface. COuld also be automated, or semi automated. One compromise at automating that would be to set up g code to move the router to the point of a grid resolution specified by you, then just jog down until your spring plunger contacts...etc you're a smart guy you get the drift. nice work you are doing btw

    I subscribed to you because you do some amazing work. CNC work is fascinating to me. It would be really cool to see a new Ford GT body that could be put on a mustang or something. Just an idea since they are so dang expensive and exotic looking! Keep up the videos I love seeing your work

      Im not sure if a mustang would be the best donor for a GT build, if so the engine would have to be relocated. I appreciate the sub, thanks for watching.

      Inspire Composites how long does it take for you to CNC a full body? Also could you do a video on what bits you use to mill the foam?

      around 2 weeks for an exterior. I will do more CNC videos in the future when i build another one.

    Chicken scratch? At least I'm not the only one.
    Would a graph on the table help with this process? A bunch of 1" squares graph. Course might get worn off in just a few days of working. Just a thought.

      could work out, but im going to use the cnc table next time to get measurements.

  • @THOMASTHESAILOR
    @THOMASTHESAILOR 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Measuring that would have been a lot easier and MUCH MORE accurate in your CNC machine, Use an indicator or edge finder and your digital read out.. Just touch every point your need with a dial indicator mounted in the spindle, record the X,Y and Z dimensions from Mach3 readout.. You can use a CNC as a CMM.. I do it all the time..

    Dude sick! What about vacuum forming the lexan?

    • @InspireCNC
      @InspireCNC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats an option, but vacuum forming it wouldnt be necessary.

    Did you have a go at grinding tempered glass?

    • @InspireCNC
      @InspireCNC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grantley Design I will forego it. Initially when I could not find a donor glass I was planning to cut tempered by annealing it. Then I did some more research and decided to go with laminated glass for the sides. After more research about tempered glass it was going to be difficult process just to anneal it to cut.

    Would it have been possible to use lexan?

      Benjamin Thomas it's possible but less desirable

      NO, You can NOT use Lexan in a front windshield.. It's illegal.. It has to be safety Glass only.. If you get caught, Your State Motor Vehicle Dept will have your head.. Cops do notice that stuff.. Besides, the wipers will wear it to a dull finish and cloud your vision..
