I feel so sad for the relic deck that could have been
I mean it's easy to say that, but even if they did draft relics, they didn't get shown the treasure chest one of the location. Both of which enable the relics to be pretty nuts. Hard to say if it would have been better considering all of the games were over before turn 10

@@whiskyfox7943 During 2016 Karazan meta the best deck was Shaman deck, so much game turned into "ShamanStone" it was the only deck in ladder, and despite the 4 mana 7/7 being in the rotation during the time, people stopped running it because it often got destroyed by BGH, I don't remember exactly what card filled the slot, but most of the decks didn't ran it. The strongest minion in deck I think was Tunnel Trogg/Thunderbluff Valiant.
~Also if I'm not wrong the deck who had best odds against it was priest, because shadow word death, not playing 4 mana 7/7 made it have better odds against priest.

Huge Voxy fan, myself. You'll have a great time in her stream and her chat will help you follow Magic. I think she uses an overlay that lets you hover to read cards as well

@@jamesaditya5254 I like that! It could be a "choose one" mechanic. You either pick just the handle and it's a 0 attack weapon that has to be buffed or you equip only the blade and do 1 extra damage to yourself. It'd be terrible for rogue hero power but I kinda want to see a broken weapon where you pick which half to equip.
The fact that this could have been a 12 win relic deck with Xy'mox and all relics in the world is so freaking funny to me
relics is not a 12 win deck unfortunately even with xy'mox, it's just neat synergy to hit but there's crazier stuff out there, the more promising draft would've been straight aggro and pick up the magnifying glaive instead of whatever he picked and don't draft tempo loss cards like the rush tutoring spell

The draft could have been better, but Rarran's piloting of that turned what was a solid limited deck into a dumpster fire.
He did have some very questionable plays

He didn't even play that bad, his first 2 opponents giga highrolled and he was 1 off on the last loss

Ya I was surprised with some of the choices Rarran said he'd take. Though I don't mean that as criticism, the video would be equally enjoyable either way. But it seems like Arena might not be a mode he's super familiar with in the current meta.
Voxy did a great job drafting actually. Honestly DH is just so bad in arena right now that this was kinda doomed from the start. Also the first two games first one especially had the nuts decks/draws

Here's how I would "translate" Hearthstone keywords into MTG language:
+Battlecry = Triggers an effect when/after entering the battlefield.
+Deathrattle = Triggers an effect when removed from the battlefield.
+Divine Shield = Shield Counter.
+Dormant = Phases out.
+Freeze = Tapped.
+Lifesteal = Lifelink
+Poisonous = Deathtouch
+Reborn = Shield counter (sort of?)
+Charge = Haste.
+Rush = Haste, but can only target creatures.
+Secret = Instants, but closer to trap cards from Yu-Gi-Oh.
+Silence = Functions similarly to the plains enchantments that remove all abilities from a creature.
+Spell Damage = Instants and sorceries deal (X) extra damage. (Where X is the amount of spell damage you currently have.)
+Stealth = Evasion ability which goes away after the creature attacks or the effect expires.
+Taunt = This creature blocks each turn if able.
+Tradeable = Similar to Cycling except you place the card back into your deck instead of the graveyard.
+Windfury = Double Strike, but you can attack up to two different targets.
+Mega-Windfury = Double Strike, Double Strike, but you can attack up to four different targets.
+Choose One = Similar to the Choose One effects from many instants and sorceries.
+Combo = Storm effect.
+Location = Enchantment Artifact that gets a 0/-1 counter each turn you use its effect.
+Dredge = Scry 3, but the bottom of your deck.
+Discover = No real comparison to MTG.
+Outcast = No real comparison to MTG.
+Overheal = No real comparison to MTG.
+Overload = No real comparison to MTG.
+Immune = Indestructible.
+Elusive/Can't be targeted by Spells or Hero Powers = Shroud (and only in rare cases Hexproof).
+Passive = Triggered Abilities
+Start of Game = Similar to Conspiracy cards.
+Adapt = Give a creature deathtouch, lifelink, double strike, evasion, haste, taunt, or a shield counter chosen randomly.
+Echo = Multikicker
+Weapon = Equipment
God I am SO excited to See the sequel to this video where Rarran drafts a limited deck. In love with these Voxytwitch collaborations, never heard of her before but the vibe is fantastic.
I think drafting Magic with only HS knowledge is probably quite a bit harder than drafting Arena with only Magic knowledge. There's just a lot more Magic fundamentals that you have to understand to make a functional deck.
@@christopherlundgren1700Yeah they wouldn't be able to do a Player Draft but they could do a bot draft and then Voxy could take as much time as needed to explain stuff to Rarran. I mean for one thing just needing to read 15 magic cards per pack would take Rarran forever anyway...

Congrats Rarran, you have inspired me to play Hearthstone for the first time in *several years*. I was primarily an Arena player back in the day, and the idea of going in blind and seeing how well I could do was too much to pass up.
How'd it go?
I started playing again because of him too - totally worth it. Although, I haven't touched Arena since I came back, but this draft reminded me of how much fun it can be, so I look forward to playing some Arena when I get the chance.
@@theegrease Did 6 runs, won 2, 2, 1, 3, 2, 6. I averaged 6.5-7 back in the day, so turns out 4 years of rust and not knowing half the cards matters 😅 It was fun though.

As a dedicated arena player, I agree with most of her picks. Hindsight is 20/20 and we should have gone for relics, but you can't know how many more relics are coming so I probably wouldn't have chosen them either.
I will say though that Glaivesmiths are very strong, both got passed up and I would have taken both.
I also would have taken Topple the Idol as it can save you from a bad situation.
Magnifying Glaive and Spectral Sight are both good on their own, but they are kind of anti synergy cards as casting spectral sight or even having a spectral sight in your hand makes the refill effect of Magnifying Glaive less effective.

Your chemistry w pretty much every collaborating content creator is usually pretty good already, but tbh yours w Voxy here is probably one of the best. She's got an infectious personality and she's a natural w humor, the way she laughs and looks at the camera w her facial expressions, and your reactions to her are also really entertaining. Definitely would be great to see more content with the two of you.

To be fair with Rarran, deck had no wincon, mostly a bunch of draw. And to be fair with Voxy, the only wincon she got offered was Phantasms, that looks like a joke at base level and she could never know that many relics would get offered
This would have been so much better if foxy was watching him play the deck.

The correct legendary pick was xymox btw, even without any relics. It's draw, removal, and board refill with an 8/8 body. It's a fairly good arena card.
It's a toss up imo, since the deck has quite a bit of draw and deathwing is often an instant win
Xymox is not terrible but way too slow. I'm not committing 8 mana to do 1 damage to random target twice. I am only happy to play it for other effects if I already have the board. Even then it's not amazing. The neutral 8/8 drake would be a lot better. Deathwing is an amazing arena card so definitely the right pick.
Eh Deathwing's better IMO. With no relics Xymox just doesn't do much a lot of the time. Meanwhile the games you play Deathwing you're pretty likely to just immediately win. It's kind of like starting your Arena run 1-0 or 2-0. Probably very much worth having a dead card sometimes.

I haven't played hearthstone but I guess card draw is more important in Magic because we don't have hero powers. It's not that uncommon to just have nothing to do in a turn.

15:19 Divine Shields are similar to Shield counters in MTG. (The only difference is shield counters are better because they block Assesinate’s/Murder’s and can stack).
