I feel you. My parents left their family to move to America. I went back to China after 9 years, and I never felt so overwhelmed with all the reunions with people I never knew were my relatives.
I feel you girl🥹 being in china last year really made me realize how much i’ve been missing out on the ”being raised by a village” life cause in the west everybody live their lives so centered around themselves and their own family. Hope you enjoyed your trip 🩷

Your video is so interesting and touching. It raises a question in my mind. How do Chinese people who are in US since a small kid can maintain their culture? Do you guys really connect with your origin like playing traditional games (Fight the Landlord i guess)?
China GOATED....Crazy how even though it's a collectivist society, when I go there I feel more like an individual and more human. Like if I make an a$$ out of myself I'm just one idiot and didn't just bring down my entire race. lol.
And I'm grateful to the people there who gave me the time of day and gave me the confidence I should've had earlier...I miss the motherland, it straight up healed me :'>

Ma gosh my bff is also a Shanshan and her parents are also from Sichuan!!! Her "Shan" refers to a certain type of tree, translating to fir or cedar.

I have a similar story growing up abroad. Recently, I visited home town and as you say it's a privilege to be in North America. So much respect for my mom who brought us to Canada ❤!
You're not living in cities in China. Village people used to have a good image of the US but mood changes when you live in cities as they're more exposed to the world media.

It’s a bit of disappointing that you didn’t show our viewers around the village but I got only one glimpse of it and seems the village is still quite underdeveloped and your grandfather’s house is the only good house in the village. I guess it’s your father financed the building of the house. Jiaxian in Henan is still quite poor and most young people left countryside and went to city to earn a living.
