A lot of good things about this movie. People do not change, but thank God for good moral people who fight for people's rights. Not like those in our government.
Great to see Yakama Kanutt playing one of the bad guys. He was a true cowboy and worked in many movies with Wayne. He went on to be one of the best stuntmen in Hollywood and did the stunt work in Ben Hur with Charlton Heston for the "chariot race"! Love these old cowboy movies !!
John Wayne is one of the greatest actors of all time in my opinion. Usually I don't like his early movies, but this one is great! Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing.
Early film for John Wayne but clearly he had a quality that stood out. The story and acting was as someone below said "Corny" but Wayne made it worth watching.
Strange how the elements of the lawyer forced into gunplay foreshadows The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, while the wagon crash with the safe and the bad guy dead foreshadows The War Wagon. Also, at about 44:53 -- the Wayne walk is already down.
I find these movies to be very entertaining and John Wayne plays a consumate hero. I do whince a bit though when I see those horses do the somersault after running so fast.
That was one sick stunt when the horses do front flips pulling the wagon with the safe on it! No SPCA monitoring back then, sad. I never could ride a horse - fell too sorry for them! Motorcycles though, now that's another story! One good thing I noticed - lots of these guys wore spurs - but never seemed to use them to prod the horse (spurs are NASTY!)...

Now wait a minute. How come the horses didn't get exhausted from thirst like the cows? This makes no sense. The Salamander guy is a greedy cold-blooded killer, why couldn't he be taken out without all the court hullabaloo? Does anyone think the others who got killed got due process of law? Nope, no one got prosecuted. That's the history of the frontier, and it's kind of incredulously sickening, because had the cows been protected, the violence would have been automatically minimized. The farmers got ridiculed and insulted. Had they not been inebriated by liquor, pumped up by imported coffee, & tea, and instead, just fed everyone, including all the animals, and drank milk, and grown some food, the history of the whole country would be a good deal less troublesome. The horses always seem fast & healthy. The rifles, pistols, and all the guns were always ready to be fired, and there were the deceitful gambling men, and pitiable women. The diaries those women kept are just tragic. They kept track of all the deaths, and wrote about the dead cows. They suffered loss of infants, children, and had to undergo Indian attacks. They were outnumbered, and they had to serve ALL the men even when they were married. 😵

That's the million dollar question! And why didn't they get thirsty & exhausted on the treck for water? (Nooooo, they ride like the wind.) Cows should be protected and they will produce the best life for humans. The bull can plow, and haul carts, and the cow gives the nectar of immortality, milk. Instead these misguided aggressive frontier people thrive on booze, coffee, gambling, murder, gun violence, red meat, land hoarding, and illicit sex. Pet dog & cat are worshipable, but innocent and useful cow is butchered. Come on, even the elephant is vegetarian, and very strong. Humans don't need excessive protein, but the taste of blood is there in milk, (transformed blood). Can't we get it right even if it takes a change in consciousness? 🤔

Republic pictures = you know it's a B movie before even watching it. About the level of the silly 'Three Mesqouter' movies. I'm saying that as fact, not to be nasty. I guess John Wayne had to start somewhere. Randolph Scott was the king of the screen at this stage It's also funny that some of these actors look like silent movie actors, with eye liner?
Right, that's what I thought. When they were talking about the map. And running cattle to Kansas. And I'm looking at Lone Pine CA. and the Eastern Sierra's in the background.

Wow..didn't know that. Thanks for mentioning Yakima
Great film , and I love the scenery
Good movie. Never seen it before. The deaf guy and his friend are funny.

What about Gary Cooper, yul Brynner and so many others...??
What the hells that supposed to mean?
Sad to say this about the Duke, he is a one dimensional actor. He could only portray his cowboy character in the different roles he was given.
JOHN WAYNE IS THE BEST !
🙏
The quality of this film is excellent. John Wayne was an underrated actor.
Great oldie of the Duke with historical ramifications of cattle and water rights!
Good old western. Thanks.

Ace Handler - spurs are only "nasty" if you use them that way. Just like with a gun, it ain't the tools fault if somebody misuses it
Even in 1936 they used stuffed horses. Could not let anything hurt or worse to there lively hood. FYI
every body and there clean clothes , go go john wayne
Como sempre um belo filme faroeste , dos tempos atrás ! Saudades !!!
Qué hermoso familia saludos cordiales
Great movie thanks, John wearing a black hat to about minute 40 when suddenly he's got a white one on! A portent of things to come!

I find it amazing that they never had to load their weapons or that they didn't shoot their own horses while riding and shooting.

Not everything republic made was B Movie, they just had a division that made a lot of this stuff.
They also made "The Quiet Man" which was nominated for Academy Awards.

The U.S. went thorough a war to get rid of slavery. Yet, our country overlooks other countries that still practice slavery..
Its amusing how they portray the Pecos country. It’s flat and dry.
