The spat isn’t vital but it doesn’t half make a difference in flatness no matter how you apply the gear

This is where i find the 18" xltralite is ideal, I've been second coating with it for a fair while. Then I jump back to my trusty 11"

Good to see you back Alex. Love the shot of the close up. That's what we need more of on plastering vids!

Thanks Marcus hoping to have another one uploaded this week, already shot just needs editing. Been a rough few months plowing through the work, but starting to make some headway now.

I’ve always flattened as I go - on the first coat especially. That way I know that I can leave it longer before troweling up to finish which will let me do another wall etc.

@@city2015if you have flattened the plaster as you apply it, you can leave it longer because you don’t have to worry about taking the tram lines out which is very difficult when the plaster has gone off. So the fact you have done this already means you can use the time while the plaster is going off to put on more m².

what is my house is 130 years old. and i've broke off loose plaster, or cement and lime more likely, now half the wall is original and half is down to the brick. i want to bring it back level in order to skim it. i read there is a special mix for going onto walls, whilst another coat of smth else is needed pretty soon after applying it.

Never used the spat as my boss doesn’t trust them, seems like great but of kit but nothing wrong with flattening with a trowel 👍

Tbh it is a lot easier using a spat. It’s like anything, use it properly they are a no brainer. If you learn to rely on them and use them for more than they are made for you will have problems

What about the horrible ripples from spatting early? Or are you OK with them?

Why has Multi Finish got a green square label on it saying new fastset plaster, its a pain in the arse it goes in super quick, I put a wall on the other day it was setting in the bucket after 25 minutes, went to B and Q to see if I could get multi finish with out that fastset green label on it and there was none all of them even board finish has that label on it. When I went online it seems its £9.60 a 25 kg bag for Thistle Multi Finish with the green label Fastset plaster on it, but if you want the stuff with out the label on its £15 a bag. I have a theory as it used to be £4.60 a bag and then when the cost of living happened it went up to £14.50 a bag. So I think no plasterers have been buying it cause of the price and doing other work like renders instead, and then shops like b and q have sent it back to Thistle cause they couldnt sell it. Thistle have then took this out of date plaster and bashed it with some other plaster rebagged it with a Green label branding it as some new fastset plaster when in reality its just old recalled plaster stores couldnt sell that Thistle have rebagged and sold back to them stores slightly cheaper and thats why it goes in so fast, theres one website selling the stuff with the green label and all the photos plasters have sent in its all gouged on every photo no ones got a nice flat finish with it. I remember old thistle multi finish you would get about a hour before its started turning into clay in the bucket this new stuffs going like that after 20 minutes.
