I agree there is no shortage of cruelty with people chaining up these peaceful giant beauties. This planet belongs to the elephants also. They existed way b/4 lazy cruel men, who do nothing but destroy the beautiful majestic animals that belong here. Leave them be. Thank the best of humanity for helping. I hate to say this to you. Thailand alone has thousands of work labour elephants in that condition. they used to move log trees in the jungle and more. The Thai people have lived with elephants together for generations and that can't never change. the only reason locals sell that elephant to this group is because the elephant is in bad condition or is not suitable for a job anymore.

@@kevinp8108probably older age, especially given the life of being tortured as a baby elephant (calf) and the hard backbreaking work in the timber industry, so they don’t tend to live as long as an Elephant that hasn’t been exploited by humans. But I’m sure Kanoon didn’t focus on the past but on the freedom and joy of being a free elephant, although they never forget someone who hurts them, they also never forget those that treat them well, whether in the wild or in captivity.

Kanoon passed away on November 12, 2023. Three months after his freedom. I too was heartbroken at the ending.

@@weeleelim7456From what I've read it looks like his leg swelled up as well as his tongue and they were thinking it might have been a poisonous snake. I also found this at the The Elephant Database:
"We noticed a sudden and dramatic decline in his condition yesterday and were consulting with the veterinarians from TECC."
"Kanoon was refusing to eat and struggling to walk… He slowly lay himself down on the ground and within minutes his breathing stopped."

You said they should do the logging themselves, but the logs are probably too heavy for people to carry, so they use elephants. I wish they could afford to buy trucks instead, and free the elephants.
How anyone can treat another living being like that breaks my heart. Whoever changed that boy up is more of an animal than Kanoon. I hope he enjoyed his final days of freedom. Bless his heart. ❤

@@NMN_CP Exactly. We used to chain up horses to go to the store because humans can't walk that far or carry that much and we don't want our horses leaving us stranded by running off. Now we have cars which means less manure but horses are out of the economy, left to racing and performances for people to win ribbons (and the unnecessary injuries that result from these forms of entertainment). We round up wild horses to prevent them from eating grass that we want to leave for the cows that are still in our economy. At least that elephant was still part of the economy. You don't want to see animals that are no longer needed by humans.

I'm glad Kanoon was able to live freely and enjoy happiness before passing. What makes me even more upset is that the owner will do the same thing to another elephant or animal. I wish they would make a Planet of the Elephants movie, humans need to see and experience what they put these animals through even if it's fictional.

I wept watching this, seeing Kanoon foraging, bathing & rumbling was the most beautiful sight. My hope is this for every single chained Asian elephant. All animals are precious but for me elephants are THE most beautiful creatures.
