tbh when the HYDRA stomper went over board, I though Steve would have become the Winter Soldier
Same my thought process being there must always be a winter soldier there must always be sacrifice and so on
Same
Ye same
Same .
Yeah same
this series is gonna have me going "I understood that reference" ing the whole time 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to not say that whenever you understand a reference
The whole fxckin time lol
I understood that reference
OH , OH!
I understand that reference.
same
I love how the entry for the Tesseract in the book is ' _Cubo totalmente ordinario_ ' or "Totally Ordinary Cube' in Italian.
That is hilarious thank you for bringing this to me because I don't know Italian and I never would have thought to check
This is so amazing
why does he keep referring to the tesseract being some ancient power? We know the stones are Ancient we don't need to translate Italian text.
@@leonardogallo9126 ok now that makes some questions like how old is Thanos or how do the Italians know the future and was this book written by gen z
@@Cooper-Radio it’s just a play on Latin. Latin is ancient Italian so it translates well.
I love how Peggy’s fighting style with the shield is different than we were used to seeing with Steve. Marvel always takes fighting styles into account depending on what makes sense for the character and it’s so fun to watch.
Agreed
I really enjoyed the animation for this episode and am very glad they are going to continue the story of Captain Carter into the future.
@@Tfran2917 this animation was 2d I believe.
@@maxattack3853 We’re both kind of right I guess. It’s called “cel shading” where animators make 3D graphics appear 2D. Some people call it “toon shading” as well. It’s always been off-putting to me, but this series is the only place I’ve been able to look passed it.
@@Tfran2917 Have you seen "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse" yet? The cell shading was done really well there too in my opinion. Although the frame rate was distracting initially, they nailed it in the last third.
And if you're into video games, there's a bunch of games that aged well purely because of cell shading such as Borderlands, Zelda: the Wind Waker, and the Sly Cooper series.
Bucky’s one liners in this episode reminded me of how much happier he was in the 40’s……
@free sexy albums in my channel I know how, actually Marvel had said that Bully Maguire came to their Studio when they were actually on a demonetize him
But Maguire had said he would put dirt in their eyes if they had done so
surprised you didn’t mention bucky’s “we don’t have all day” line to steve… “i can do this all day” :))
It's obvious
Why you look like a cartoon character irl ??
I don't think that one was intentional its a common saying.
@@madrish7226 What?
@@stevenpadilla1890 yeah but he mentioned Bucky's line about his arm too which felt even more obvious
I loved how when Peggy saves Bucky on the train he says "Jeez you almost ripped my arm off!"

Same.
Epic burn?
Yes!! Also Howard was able to built a better Mach1 suit because he didn't have to use.....A BOX OF SCRAPS!!!!! One question, is the monster at the end, Shuma Gorath, the Hydra squid or the inter-dimensional squid from Watchmen????
Saw a good explination on why Steave was Hydra Stomper pilot.
In those times Miniturization wasn't as far along as it was in like 10 or even 20 years. Thus machines like Tanks and such were built big not only because of the fear factor but because they had to be to store all the parts and armour. Unfortunatly, this also meant that crew compartments either increased the size of the tanks or the crew members were smaller to fit in more cramped crew compartments. Which is what happened...
There was a period of time when all Tankers were only under 5'4" in size.
This means that without miniturization of the components of the Hydra Stomper, only a small person could pilot the thing, thus Steve...
Or maybe because Howard, Steve, and Peggy are friends....
Also just makes sense, since they deemed Steve the best soldier in every way but brawn. You don’t need to be strong to pilot the suit, so he’d possibly be the best choice
@@SunnysinisterSD Indeed, after Peggy took the Serum, Steve still went through all that training and evaluations to even get him in as the original, if Stark (Howard in this case) then went, we I have a TankMech that he can pilot. Damn straight he would be put through the training for it...
@@AustralianGrizzly yeah I think some people are thinking way too much into this.
Makes sense. I'm average weight and height (5 9 141) and on the couple of occasions I've had to enter WWII vintage warbirds through the regular crew access hatches it's a snug fit for me.
i love how they showed Howard powering the suit using tesseract and not making an arc reactor because that would have undermined Tony,s biggest achievement and making it lose its significance
I think it undermined his achievement anyway. It undermined his whole struggle and did it 70 years b4
Makes no sense
Should have called the suit Arsenal. Which in the animated series was a robot Howard actually made
@Joe Lee It didn’t really though, Tony’s great achievement was inventing the Arc reactor and discovering the element that his dad had theorised but didn’t have the technology to make and absolutely none of that was changed
Howard just got his hands on a completely separate power source
@@jonasquinn7977 in a cave with a bunch of scraps no less.
I love how they made Steve a hero even without the powers. I was so afraid they would kick him to the sidelines but no, they did him good. Both Peggy and Steve where awesome in this!!!
I had the biggest grin when Peggy said “ You’re lucky to even be in the room”
I cheered!
Yesssss!
I was like yaaaaasss
You probably know this, but in case others don’t.
This is a The West Wing reference for Bradly Whitford (that also appears in Hamilton, ‘caus LMM was a fan).
The Whitehouse Senior Staff always talks about “being in the room” when decisions are being made (BW played the Deputy Chief of Staff for most of the shows run)
How the table have turned
To me Peggy throwing the weight into the wall in frustration was a parallel to how Isaiah threw that tin into his wall when Bucky was reminding him of his torturous experiments
I thought the same thing!
Yes.
It to me was also a nod to the first avengers film when Steve knocks the punching bag clean off its chain

It reminded me of Earth bending

@@finkretana agreed. Felt super rushed but they managed to jam a whole lot in there still and have it come out decent. An hour woulda been better though
i absolutely love Peggy Carter, so this episode of What If.. was an absolute treat.
MORE PEGGGY! MORE CAPTAIN CARTER!
I firmly believe these episodes should've been at least 40 minutes a piece, that's my only gripe
Completely agree. But then I remembered it takes several months to produce a very brief amount of animation (if someone know the actual stats, please mention them!) and so it's understandable that these episodes are going to be shorter.
Yep, I feel exactly the same way. Some scenes flowed a bit awkwardly because of the fast pacing, especially in terms of dialogue. Aside from that, I think this was a killer first episode. Really loving Captain Carter, such a badass
I get that but I appreciate that their not trying to make us basically rewatch phase 1 it's obvious they want to get to the "what if avengers"
Yeah the pacing was off
@Joe Mama yeah but forcing animators become slave to working extra time just because they got huge payment is not good either....
the animation gonna become more bad since the animators didn't get proper rest
I let out an audible NO when Peggy said Saturday for their dance. Going through that multiple times is just heartbreaking
My heart broke twice during the ending!

i couldn't stop being awestruck by the animation; they did an excellent job!! looking forward to the rest of the series.
Really? It was really pretty when it was still, but I thought the actual animation was choppy and cheap looking.
@@lilj4818 you’re simply used to the overproduced actual cheap animation. They did the animation to make it have a comic book feel like the actual “what if” comic book series

I was ready for Peggy to say the “I had a date” line. Made me choke when Steve said it back then.
We’re really gonna get those “I understood that reference” jokes in these What If episodes for sure
This is the chance for MCU to get their musical continuity back on track. So glad they put the Captain America theme in there

@@allenmobley8444 When Steve is in the armor being badass they use the Captain America theme

August 11 the date this episode premiered was also the same date in 1942 when actress Hedy Lamarr and composer George Antheil receive a patent for a Frequency-hopping spread spectrum communication system that later became the basis for modern technologies in wireless telephones, two-way radio communications, and Wi-Fi.
It kind of makes sense for the Hydra Stomper to be made by Stark since he had a stable power source, the Tesseract, the same way that Tony needed an arc reactor.

I found it interesting that Bucky wasn’t experimented on as far as we can tell. It makes me wonder what happened to him and of course Steve in those 70 years.
They probably became old or died from old age
Becky wasn’t experimented on because he was never captured. I’d imagine that IF the Winter Soldier exists in this reality that they’re someone unrelated to any of the Avengers we know.
@@QueenKunta Bucky was experimented on before he fell from the train. That’s what helped him survive, and also why Bucky was not kept with the rest of the prisoners in First Avenger

I tried to translate the ruins, and it roughly translated to “space stone”. I am from norway, so I learned that specific version.
Yeah, I also figured it to be “spacestone”. I’m kind of sad that it was just English put into some ruins, and not something like Old Norse. But
it's funny how many different versions of nordic runs are around, because the one i learned translated to "spakm stonm"
@@grose8153 elder futhark? thats what I used to get spakm stonm.
@@OneRingToRuleThemAll must be, I know it as futhark but was introduced to me as nordic runes.
Not rough translation, but exact transliteration.
@@grose8153
1) Proper runic E and M look very similar, but neither of them ever took on the shape of the other, so you two are simply confusing them.
2) Modern English C is a mess and runic writing of it always a matter of convention. Since they aren't going for a phonetic transcription, using the basic rule (and original value) of C = K is probably best.
As a huge fan of Timeless, I loved the Hedy Lamarr reference and the significance of it!
It was pretty sweet seeing Steve in an "Ironman" suit
6:43 - The translation of these runes must be "Spacestone".
If you compare these runes with actual ones, you get "_pakm_tonm". Let's say the first rune is a "s" and they took the similar looking rune for "m" instead of the rune for "e" (for some reason nobody will ever know) you get "spakestone". Since runes have no "c", let's say the "k" is one and you get "spacestone".
Definately. The s rune is Sowilo, for s. Yet they have used Mannaz instead of Ehwaz. Its a messy translation but it's definately an attempt at Elder Futhark for Space Stone.
yup
Good work!
Yaaaas I love how they use animation to their full advantage in this it’s so awesome to watch
Imagine if Howard couldn’t build the suit n tony travels back in time n says “I was able to build this in a cave… with a box of scraps…” 😂😂😂
Whenever HYDRA opened the portal couldn't it also be referencing the world that Jemma from AoS was stranded on with HIVE?
I think both stories took inspiration from the same comic lore but that was def not hive
Where else are they going but Maveth (sp?), Hydra does love it's tentacled gods. But we can't talk about AoS because bppppfffffffff (spits in irritation). I'm just happy we got some serious Peggy respect here.
Detail missed 10: It's actually "the hypercube IS the true shape of the space stone"

The book they're referencing in regards to the Tesseract could be a nod to the SHIELD comic series that established SHIELD as an ancient brotherhood with members like Gallileo, Michealangelo, Nostradamus, Nicolas Tesla, etc. Howard Stark is an essential part of that story, which has a heavy emphasis on time travel/multiverses.
The calling upon the "hydra monster" had me remembering the Agents of Shield episode when Hydra used the monoliths to bring the hydra monster back to earth.... (It was in a different form...but still) It's been awhile since I've watched the series but isn't that what happens?....

That was super quick Erik! Kudos to the team!
Peggy founded Shield in main universe, so I am guessing now Steve founded shield in this universe. I also feel Tony Stark won’t be a billionaire or smart person in this universe as I feel Howard Stark is the one having the achievements. Howard Stark could have also been alive or died naturally instead of being murdered because there is no winter soldier, so that would mean Howard Stark would accomplish a lot of scientific wonders in that universe.
