Its meant to be based on dark ambience which uses a lot of random noises to unsettle you. Honestly thats why I kinda don’t like dirge. I feel like it doesn’t lean far enough into it’s inspiration and uses only a few weird noises.
My theory is that they are gyroids singing/humming

K.K. Hypno is like when you come home late at night, in a good mood. You walk through your door and you smell something strong. Your cat comes to the door and greets you, but they seem off. Maybe they’re guilty for knocking some food over? You walk into your living room and you see your loved on the floor, a pool of black and dried blood around them. Their clothes stained. A stab wound in their back. You notice your surrounding now. The tv is broken. The coffee table seems to be pushed. There is bloody paw steps on the hard wood floor. You drop your belongings and rush over to them. They’re cold. There is a vase filled with beautiful Chrysanthemums. They’re a dull light blue. They’re just sitting in the middle of the living room. Un touched. You’re in a state of shock. You look back down at your loved one. Your vision is blurred and you pass out.

For me hypno k.k. is when you're going outside for a walk very early in the morning, you feel like someone or something is watching you, but you don't want to turn around to see who it is. You feel strange like they are going to murder you. Confused, you decide to go home and relax take a short nap, but you still feel that the one person is still watching you. You shake in fear and hope everything is going to be okay, but still feel worried and more scared.

personally i think dirge and hypno kk should be swapped arround, dirge makes me think of a cult chanting something around some satanic wheel and the metal clangs at the end make me think of a guillotine slamming into the ground, it just paints an earie imagine in my head, also hypno kk is sherb's favourite song so that just half's the spookiness ngl.

Considering Animal Crossing isn't even a horror game to begin with, hearing something unnerving, especially at night, can become quite a bit scarier than if it were in an actual horror game. Like play Dirge while playing in, like, the dark halls of Amnesia's jail section and see if you can get the same feeling as if the normal song was playing.
Side note: I chose that specific example as it consistently is pretty frightening to me.

K.k hypno feels like a song that would play when you realize you were the villain all along, it gives off an unsettling feeling. It feels right but wrong at the same time, like when you don’t know If it’s something unsettling or something that you like, it just feels like it doesn’t belong anywhere. I personally like the song but again, think of what I just said.

To Lullaby: It's not confirmed ig but to me it's obviously a music box playing and the reversed part just extremely sounds to me like a music box that is being winded up, especially bc that's when the song starts again. Still very creepy tho

Know this is a few years old, but I saw on a different video that it might be because of old vinyl players. The commenter said that their theory is that it was made to resemble old record players, as they had one from the 1960’s, which when a record ended, it would start playing the record backwards. I think this one makes some sense. Your comment is also a very valid reason. It’s still super creepy though, it makes me feel more uncomfortable seeing as it supposed to be a children’s lullaby.

As someone who has KK Lullaby as one of their favourite songs and a villager that constantly plays KK Synth (Piper I'm looking at you), I never exactly realised how creepy these songs are until now... and it just makes me love them even more

I’ve always sort of seen Hypno K.K. as a lullaby. Weird, I know, but if you listen to K.K. Slider actually sing it when he’s visiting, it feels a lot less like an eerie mess of reversed notes, and feels more like a parent singing their child to sleep.
Pondering is my favourite kk song. It’s just ✨mundane✨ and ✨passive✨ even if it is strange.

The K.K. Hypno first made me ok....but then...I feel that weird feeling of dread, like something is wrong.
The very interesting thing and why I find K.K Dirge so spooky is because of the continuous banging noises in the background. Those banging noises, I noticed, are the exact same noises on the anti piracy screens in the earlier versions of Animal Crossing where it depicts your character in a jail sell.
K.K dirge gives me a vibe that someone is watching me, even though I'm in my room and my big sister is asleep above me (we have a bunk bed), the song is plain out weird tbh-
If I was listening to a lullaby to fall asleep and I heard that sound from K.K. Lullaby, I’d fall asleep... forever. I’d just die.

I just had kk hypno in my animal crossing in the middle of night
kk snyth reminded me of s dead dog i found on a road when i was younger, and i started calling it the dead dog song. when i was playing the song in my house and a goldie came in, i was frightened thinking this was the dogs way of coming back

K.K. Dirge is my fav song in the entire game besides 5 A.M. and Imperial K.K.! I just vibe to this all the time and my friends absolutely get freaked out if I play it in the car. Also love the 🧜🏻♀️ look!

That's why I much prefer the live version of Hypno K.K. Though I don't fear the aircheck version as much as I once did, it still greatly creeps me out, while the live version feels more calm and adventurous, albeit still slightly unsettling.

I know the k.k. song is not just an ac song but I really get weird vibes from it as well. It just sounds so empty as if you've failed and this song is the outcome you get. I feel like Parade is a little bit creepy. It is too happy, like idk how to explain it. To me it feels fake happy. Also I think Hitokui Village helped make it creepier. Chorale also has a small bit of creepy, but that could be cause I heard it in a creepy dream village.

If you ever get a chance to visit Harvey in animal crossing new horizon just don’t go into the basement. Trust me you don’t want to or the upstairs I did and it’s quite unsettling because every single room is plain the basement is a room with metal walls it’s terribly scary
K.K synth reminds me of H1 post awareness stage confusions it even has the same glitching in the song, the only difference in the songs is H1 is 22 minutes long and, synth is 2-3 minutes
