You took me back to my childhood 😅 “ my back ache, my bra too tight, my booty shake from the left to the right “. lol that’s old school. We used to do that cheer back in the 90s. I didn’t know it was still being used 😂
never understood at my school.....on game days....the junior and senior cheerleaders were REQUIRED to wear the full cheerleader "costume" to school. which was ridiculous....you didn't see (at the time only boys sports...yeah I'm old) the football players or basketball boys in their uniforms. so dumb
Someone signed me up for cheerleading in high school so I had to participate for a semester, but yeah, especially since the uniforms violate dress codes.
Thankfully we don't have cheerleaders in Ireland. How on earth could that be classed as a sport? Are there cheerleading competitions? Who holds the gold medal for cheerleaders at the moment?
i cant tell you whole the current national title holder is for the top levels of cheer but there is a national championship event that takes place yearly in Florida. so yes, theres definitely a squad that is considered #1 in whatever group/league the squad competes in. on a collegiate level, cheerleading scholarships are given to some athletic cheerleaders and those squads usually perform the high level stunts and gymnastics in their cheers. i think the highly ranked squads/schools/gyms also require tryouts to even join them. the reason for it not officially being declared a sport h@s lots of layers but the bottom line is that theres more $ to be made with less oversight and rules keeping it how it is. i heard that theres cheer squads popping up all over the world now so i wouldn't be surprised if theres something cheerlike brewing in ireland too!
I think because of the physicality that's why but because they're all conventionally pretty and thin it's deemed as kind of ditzy airheads and nobody takes them seriously
I 100% agree. School sports are way overfunded for something that doesn’t really add to education in schools. For Arceus sake, teachers are way overworked and underpaid. School sports just soak up all the funding that would have gone into actually not making the school experience, you know, NOT ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! Furthermore, can we stop pretending that school sports are dying out and about to be defunded? *Cough* Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes. Yeah I see what you are doing, making it so that these archaic school practices of directing a huge amount of money into school sports. Also, can we not have athletic ability be what is essentially the PRIMARY way to get into universities and colleges? Can the media and Hollywood stop saying that being involved in sports, especially American football, excuse me, American rugby, or cheerleading is the ultimate form of privilage in schools while the actually intelligent students with high grades are dismissed as nerds? Looking at you, Disney Channel and all those other teen movies. Am I saying that school sports are bad? Absolutely not, however we should downscale its role in the U.S school system. Alas, we live in an America that would keep what essentially amounts to getting meaningless vanity points as the front and center of the education system.
So bizarre to me as a Canadian where weve never had cheerleaders at any of our local schools. I didnt know girls so young were involved. 6???😮 *in my city and surrounding towns being local to me, not country wide
The young girls go to cheer gyms for competitive cheer. It's an athletic hobby like dance or gymnastics for girls that young. They don't cheer at schools.
It's more of a class aerobics than anything, but there are competitive cheerleading championships where it's just nothing but cheerleaders competing against each other. Some of them do stunts that risk neck, leg, & arm injuries. This is where the sport comes in.
Do you think cheerleading should be classified as a Title IX sport?
Yes and I think Varsity has definitely monopolized this sport and I love that you put them on blast for all that they do.

Cheerleading has always had a dark side.
Everything has a dark side.
Gotta agree with your comment.

There is way too much focus on sports and Cheerleading in the US school system.

I wanted to be a cheerleader but they were all bthcy snobs smh and I didnt want to be one of them
Man, this is something. Chilling stuff. More darker than the modeling industry.
Imma cheerleader for GOD...✅
In the late 90s, I heard Japan still has male cheerleaders.

@@Seraphim4190 ah OK. Thanks for the context:)
I'm Jamaican and same here we do have cheerleading don't get me wrong but on a much smaller scale this seems to be a very uniquely American invention
3:31 shady that you put Kenley when talking about this subject
I never understood why this is a "sport"

I thought about doing it since junior high school and audition for NFL
Cheer leaders are great

Wow.
I guess OSHA needs to step in 100%.

OG cheerleaders were men.
…that’s the comment smhlmao;
I was today years old when I found out that
First
Cheer is not a sport as IOC wants to make belive
Cheerleading as a whole is not a sport, only competitive cheerleading, where squads compete against each other.
