I wrote the requirements for you so you don't have to:- 4 Sticky Pistons 12 Pistons 4 Repeaters 12 Gravel 20 Redstone 26 Building Blocks 2 Buttons 8 Slabs 20 Fences 2 Redstone torches Edit: (Removed spaces between ingredients and pls pin).
If you have any problems with gravel getting on top then you set the repeaters wrong, the correct way is to click the repeater 2 times only, hope this helped!

Might be because I’m on bedrock but the closing function is finicky. Sometimes it’ll push it all down, sometimes it’ll only push it down by one, most of the time it only pushed a few all the way and a few by one. Tried delaying both sets of pistons at different times but neither seems to work
I believe you can up the width and height pretty easily with this design. I also recommend not using stone bricks above the fence because it looks a bit off when the gate is closed. Wood that matches the fence or even just more fence look quite nice IMO.
if you only move half of the fences and use avdifferent fence type of wood then the patterns dont line up and the door is permiable without being completey moved
