    My favorite tractor was the Minneapolis Moline G1000. I grew up on a small family farm in Southwestern North Dakota, where we had cattle, hogs and small grains. I've always had an interest in Minneapolis Moline tractors mainly because they weren't very common in my area. Perhaps you could do a video on the history of Minneapolis Moline. The most impressive part of this video was the condition of all these tractors, the owners obviously took very good care of them, they were clean and the paint on all of them was still in excellent condition considering alot of these tractors were 30 years old. I tip my hat to these farmers!

      @Vaughn Farms Limousin Sorry it took so long to reply, but we didn't have MM tractors. Like I said they weren't very common in my area. I only remember one farmer who had a G900, I believe he had purchased new in '71 or '72.

    David brown 1200 selectamatic or David brown 1490 hydrostatic. The 1200 I first learnt to plough with a lemkin 3 furrow reversible followed by the 1490 with a 4 furrow reversible. I like the two wheel drive tractors for their manoeuvrability. I also drove stier and Same drago 4wd tractors. I think I may have drove roadless and county 4wd. But by then we started to use crawler's.

    I just love when farmers and contractors use tractors and equipment of the same brand. I don't work as either, but i do go for New Holland, so i would personally choose New Holland seeders and the lot as I'm loyal to that brand. I csn operate any brand. As I'm loyal to New Holland, I'm obviously also loyal to Ford and Fiat, and as a matter of fact, a Fiat 110-90 tractor was the first tractor i operated out on a field.

    When planting corn or any multi-rowed crop, such as a corn planter that plants 24 rows at a time, how do they get lined up to start the next pass before dropping the planter down. I worked on a farm as a kid and during junior college and I seem to recall planting 4 rows at a time. In those days you had a marker that kept one from straying to far off the previous pass. In those days I spent quite a bit of time on a John Deer 42 'B' with a manual lift cultivator and it was essential that the rows were straight and didn't stray from one pass to the next. You also cultivated such that you followed the planting passes otherwise you could tear up a row if you straddled two passes. Of course we did not use weed killer in those days. You cultivated corn. Wheat and oats depended on getting the seed beds prepared properly and on time such that the grain crop out-competed the weeds. No-till planting was in its infancy in those days plus many farmer only milked 30 to 35 cows so no one could afford the equipment or rental cost for weed killer plus in those days the fertilizer was mostly manure from the animals. The guy I worked for was very particular and liked his rows straight and orderly. If you cultivated at the proper speed, once the corn got up enough so it didn't get covered during cultivation, the cultivator threw the dirt over the weeds in and around the plants and the plants thrived and the weeds died. During the first cultivation the planter was equipped with removable shields that prevented covering the corn so you could run a little faster. The 'faster" is relative and it took quite a long time to get the field cultivated. I spent many hours on that old John Deer and felt great satisfaction at keeping a corn field looking weed free during the summer. I also put on a pretty good right arm as the cultivator had to be lifted manually at the end of the rows with a lever mounted on the right axle as I recall.
    Always enjoy your videos of farm equipment. I apologize for forgetting to give you a "thumbs up" on each video. I will try to do a better job of showing my appreciation.
    Happy New Year.
    Live long and prosper.
    An Old Farm Kid from the 50s and 60s.
    Don Peterson

      @bigtractorpower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. I remember the row marker and cultivation days well. It’s interesting a 24 row now folds up for transports and is only 4 rows wide going down the road. All the modern machines rely on auto steer and GPS positioning. The tractor so steers across the field and no longer needs the row marker. The sprayer uses the same guidance line and follows the rows perfectly. With round up ready corn it’s very rare these days to actually see a Rowcrop cultivator in the field. I just made a video that follows a modern day farm from planting to harvest it is posted at th-cam.com/video/htb0WEdQQT8/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks. They all are my favorite. I wanted to be a farmer growing up in the 70’s my uncles said no there is no money in this industry the government keeps us broken. Find another job live with less live a different lifestyle. I listen to them as a young person. I missed my calling again. When my cousin Rose Ann died at 13 it changed me too she would have been a FFA member because she loved farming with her dad too. Female farmer from the 60’s. Now all the farms are gone. I just get to dream watching your videos. Later.

    What is the situation like in America, do most farmers have new tractors or mostly old tractors? In Germany the farmers always have new tractors that they can then demonstrate at the farmers demonstrations, and they can show they are rich, there are almost only new Fendt and John Deere.

      I have some 4W220 videos on BTP. It’s a cool tractor. I know a farmer with a 4W220 and two 4W305s.

    Any idea if there's the Cameco tractor from the 1980's still around?, They were yellow.
    In articulateds I love the look of the 1970's red and silver Massey Fergusons which were a nice design.
    Cameco is another nice designed machine from a era of no plastic fancy shaped panels, just simple steel shaped by hand almost and lots of imagination.

      They are not. John Deere acquired Cameco in 1998 for its sugar harvester line. The Cameco 4wds came to an end shortly after. I would like to film one.

      @@bigtractorpower Yes I love the look of them. They are designed and fabricated by people not designed and made by help of computer.
