    Instead of treated boards we started using untreated and before putting them on the trailer we soak them in used motor oil and diesel. Say 50/50 mix. Looks good kinda like being stained. And you can add more mix if you need to in a few years. ... Just an idea.

    Thank you for making this whole video. I like the music in the time lapse. The trailer is always a good project, This is how I would have done it as well. Have a good day and keep them coming.

    Genuinely thankful for your videos and the amount of knowledge that comes with your work experience! You made me confident enough to swap a motor out of my black Jeep and I’ve never done anything of the sorts before! Learning as I go and you have some great tips, picked up a couple just binging your videos,

    Tip for your next wooden deck. Look at the end of the board and turn the growth ring down like a frown. That way as the board dries and cups the crown is on top helps to not retain water on the surface. And I always predrill the holes but, that's just me.Just an FYI. You dressed it back to good use.

      I literally learned that this week.. guess it's not time to retire the old man just yet.

    Dexter next summer spead some used motor oil on the boards out in the sun over a few days. That will definitely extend the life of the wood. Reason to wait some time is for the wood to dry out and the heat will help it spread out in the wood, plus keep the dang carpenter bees from tearing up the deck wood. Here in N.AL. they will attack treated wood quickly.

    Nice work on the chain locks. The tucked winch is slick!
    Had a bandsaw but it took so much space, so I sold it and got an Evolution. Couldn't be happy, other than not using it late at night because it is so loud. Would use a reciprocating saw before using those nasty abrasive saws.
    I bought a new Radnor mig gun for my Millermatic and it has the same feed issue.

    I’ve put a new deck on a trailer before, I used a 1/2 drive impact with an adapter, it worked great and fast

    That’s a pretty neat idea 👍🏻👍🏻. I used to do carpentry work for many years, the treated boards will shrink a good bit. After the boards dry out some (start cracking) I’d put a clear waterproofing on them.

    If you go to another one run the screws with regular drill not the driver on low speed worked pretty well for me

    You are actually supposed to predrill the holes with 1 size smaller than the screws even though they are self tapping and the boards will definitely dry out and gaps will open so you done good by pulling them tight as you possibly could because you will get much littler gaps and why you had it tore down that far you should have went ahead and shot it with a coat if paint but overall it looks great and should last for a long while

    Dex you want gaps between the boards. It will swell up and buckle if you don't give it room to expand.

    Treated lumber is cheaper then non treated?

    • @Thomaslowmaster91297
      @Thomaslowmaster91297 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It shouldn't be? Never heard of that before but honestly It's all about quality. lowes treated wood isn't as good as lumber yards. But it's fine it just tends to twist more after a while but that also depends how much sun it gets

    Put your used motor oil on those boards with a paint roller,those boards will last longer. Why didn’t you use the same holes you already had in the frame, your making Swiss cheese of you frame

  • @3seriesgarage
    @3seriesgarage 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Boards will swell with water. Heat, etc, you typically should leave a ⅜" gap between all decking boards, but that's just my 2 cents lol! Not that it means to much, but yea 😅🤷🏼‍♂️
