I've got an 02 Pajero. Never parting with it until it can not be repaired. A few more mods like a winch and maybe lockers is all I'm doing to it other than replacing and upgrading parts to higher quality parts.

I’ve got a 2011 d22 Navara, yd25, has 240k km on the clock, first car, runs well, not sure whether to stick with it for a bit longer and chuck a couple mods on or buy a different 4wd for 20k or less?
4x4 tip: if u don’t have lockers and u are loosing traction on one of ur wheels , feather the breaks with ur clutch foot ! It will slow down the spinning wheel and distribute the drive to both wheels more equally, I call it “break foot lockers” keep wheeling
Best move I made was upgrading my old 98 2WD hilux for a 2013 Triton 4WD a couple months ago. I've been watching your channel since the day I bought it - in fact I'm currently 4WDing around qld with the family, and still watching! Keep it up fellas, appreciate all the knowledge you share.
My Dad has a 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser 76 (1HZ). He bought it in 2012 with somewhere around 30 000km on it. So basically new for a Cruiser. We have now had it for 8 years and he's not going to sell it. He owns 2 4WDs and the 76 was retired last year from family camping trips. It's slow as hell when towing, seats are uncomfortable for long trips, but we still use it for Men's camp trips. Currently the car has 144 000km and has very few mods. I even learned how to drive with it. Hoping to one day buy it from my Dad, he says he can't sell it, because it's just so special to him.
Ive got a 2nd gen hilux surf and it started getting depressingly sluggish and stock and i kept looking toward other vehicles, but everytime i take it out onto the great ocean road for a relaxing drive, it never lets me down and im extremely comfortable with it. That said, ive decided to clutch on and go hard with mods, bought an ARB winch bar yesterday and just dropped it off to get the whole car resprayed in its original colour this morning, ive made a list of mods to do the minute i get it back and I couldn’t be happier, its unique, useful and perfect to me. Im keeping it till i die or it dies first, otherwise a 76 series is the overall dream car. Already living the dream with this car though
After watching you guys for a few years I just picked up a swb td42 gq in Canada. It’s getting some rust repair in the shed and I can’t wait to take it out once I’m done.
Our GU is part of our family. He has traveled. Crossed all the borders of our great country. Been called upon to tow all manner of trailers, car transport, horse float, camper, boat. He has been broken and fixed, upgraded and maintained to the best of my ability and just like a human, has needed a specialist at times. Only today, he had to go to a specialist, and as I watched from the outside as the Wife drove him home I thought about all the special places he has taken us. Still stained with the red mud from the North, endured the cold of the South, squeaked his tires thru the whitest sands of the West and tracked all the Eastern coast. We don't do the hardest of tracks but we've had the best of times. He is Diesel Duke and he is our 4WD.
I bought my 93 HZJ75 in 1997 it has 1million 1hundred and 90 thousand KLM on the clock Original engine 3rd gearbox 6 alternators and 2 startermotors This year I have painted it with raptor had the rear diff rebuilt ( the airlocker has 550000 on it) gearbox and transfer rebuilt and just had the Front diff rebuilt and a airlocker fitted I want to turbo it next but not sure it will handle it
Had an 05 hilux with a decent amount of bells and whistles, have now moved to a 2018 hilux.. night and day difference! Love it to bits and would 100% recommend it for anyone if they got the cash!
Biggest mistake I have made is having too much fun driving up dunes at midday, got caught out by a blow out invisible at that time of day and spent the next 12 months rebuilding/repairing my driveline and suspension after launching into space and back. Almost had a heart attack.
Currently drive a 2010 Ford Ranger, lots of mods and has taken me many places and have loved the vehicle, its never broken on me and is very reliable. But recently purchased 99 105 Series FZJ105 stock as a rock, grandpa spec 1 owner with 230k on the clock. Found myself a great 1HDFTE with 5 Spd Auto with 215k. She is currently being built up with all the right mods to be a super capable touring/towing rig. I wanted the bigger vehicle for the family to travel in comfort, the reliability, while still being capable to go anywhere I point her. And all being converted professionally. For me its the love of the older solid axle vehicles that drew me in and the reliability.
American Southwest, 2018 Silverado 1500 (Soon to be replaced by a 2500 because I just need that little bit extra truck for my daily needs. It already comes with part-time 4x4, so I'll likely need to drop in lockers at some point. First up is the flatbed swap and winch bumper on the front though. All around suspension upgrade, 2" lift so it'll fit 35s and be able to lug around a camper. Swap the underbelly spare for a second fuel tank and move the spare up to the front of the flatbed) I know the 2500 is a LOT of truck to try and get through a technical trail, but there are features that it is virtually impossible to survive out here without. I notice the majority of your journeys, you stay away from open desert, under shade trees or near water. Here, there's nothing BUT desert, so a functional, high BTU A/C unit is essential from February to November. And carrying the battery power and inverter power to keep that running requires a bigger truck. I've been lucky enough to be able to get away with a cooler full of icepacks and a handful of 12V fans, but trips have to be shorter than 48 hours.
Got a 1996 kzn185 Toyota surf here in New Zealand and couldn’t be happier with it. 300 thousand kz and going strong. Then a 1992 Subaru brumby as bit of a project after most of its life in a hay shed
I regret selling my VY SS UTE emrald green, had such a clean body and always got compliments for it. I know its not a 4x4 but missed having a tray. Only now 3 cars and 7 years later have i moved back to having a tray and picked up a 2019 MR triton GLS Premium and my first 4x4. I have been living under a rock. having a 4x4 is another level of freedom in this country.
Haha finally there’s another longer upload! Good on ya boys. On behalf of all the fans keep up the incredible work and we all hope you are doing well during these tough times have a good one boys
Thanks mate - we have Cape York going live on Thursday this week too, plus a new build happening next Thursday. Can't wait to show you them. Cheers, Shauno
My old man got given a 3rd gen hilux that had clocked 1m before it was given to him. He owned that ute for 20 years or so and he also clocked it over. It later went to the wreckers with 164000km and almost rusted in half.
I am in the middle of converting my 1971 J1 Bedford truck into a 4wd by waking the body onto an 80 series chassis and smacking a nice canopy on the back of it. I reckon it’s gonna be the best rock crawler in the hunter region. Right know I’ve been driving a 1996 NJ Mitsubishi Pajero on 31 inch muddys with no lift and it rides like a dream.
This is coming from the U.S.A. so naturally the trucks are bigger. I just bought my truck upgrade but I went older when I bought it but it's bigger in every way too. I'm going from a 2004 standard cab long bed Silverado with the 5.3 gas V8 to a 1995 extended cab long bed F-250 with the huge 7.3 turbo diesel and 5 speed transmission. I've got a lot of work and modifications ahead of me but the F-250 will get outfitted for truck camping, mild off roading and hard exploring. It's a massive and heavy truck so it wouldn't make a good dedicated off road truck but I'll surely do what I can with it.
I am Currently going through a Spending spree Upgrading My 2005 Ford Courier, not the best rig but i have an emotional attachment after owning it for over 8years and can not Part with it, just had Gearbox and Transfer Case rebuilt, having Electrical Wiring checked and fixed as has some issues with the Dual LPG tanks dual Fuel, Wiring up a Warn Winch i found used and rebuilt with In Cab Controls, Ordered a Roof Console with all boxes ticked for UHF radio and tempted on Adding a Garmin overlander GPS unit to it, bought a Bushman Roadie Center Console Fridge as well, and so much more happening and tempted on Upgrading the seats
I had a 78 Daihatsu F20 soft top. Same size as a Sierra, 2 seater basic as, 1.6 ltr Toyota 12R motor, 4 speed, I miss that car so much. It was my first 4wd, I thrashed it and it loved every minute of it.
I had a GQ ute that I spent 4 years trying to buy, I unfortunately rolled it and I have now bought a galvanised extracab Gq, 4 inch lift, front locked, td42t, 35s e.c.t and its a very unique whith so much sentimental value to me. Im 18 years old and im trying to take time off my apprenteship to take the gq to Cape York for 4 weeks, its my absolute dream that I never got to achieve in my last car.....I hope to see you boys up there in my rig one day 💪✌
@@theodoreroseveltadept5272 yeah the clean ones are going for insane money now. I got mine in June for like 6k 😂 155k miles with a fresh timing belt, radiator, water pump and thermostat. That’s what happens when the off road bro’s discover a new platform.
@@xMods-ld8nx Most people get this chassis to be an overlanding rig, not a rock crawler. On-road and fire road/corrugation handling is really good as-is and it is plenty capable on the trail. I’d do a long-travel kit before I went solid axle
My 1972 Pinzgauer 710 M is set up for over landing. Kind of a pain on the road, lots of fun off road. Need to even things up a bit. Ready for a change. I do my thing in the Colorado Rockies.
@@4WD247 hahaha was thinking maybe an LS GU, or even just something basic like a cheap Hilux cos I really only need it as a hunting rig and the mrs wants a house and a ring so I could use the extra cash 😂 maybe a 79 in the future though, that noise is the stuff of sticky dreams.
Spent forever looking to get a 40 series shorty along with every other man and his dog, by chance I picked up a 1972 series 3 land rover and I love it!
I’ve got a 2000 Ford Courier. Best move I’ve made, something cheap and cheerful I don’t have to worry too much about and can learn from. Now looking at a RC Colorado with the 4JJ1.
My 12ht 61 is up to 465,000 completely original, 7psi... The amount of 2h 60's that come up on Facebook groups with well over a million is remarkable. Slow but bulletproof, recipe for success!
I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. 3.4 V6. I have a 3 inch lift, 33x12.50 R15 tires. Cold air intake and strait piped exhaust. 4:10 rear gears. stock engine. Heck of a truck overly reliable (GO TOYOTA!). 245,000 miles, (394,289km) original engine, transmission, drive lines. I love my truck and i will run it until the doors fall off. However i am looking at modding the bed on the unit for the Flex i have. Side not: Thank you guys for all you do and the entertainment that you guys offer.
I recently bought a 1995 Montero (Pajero) it has been nothing but problems and was maintained poorly at best, but I love the truck and cant imagine parting with it. Putting quality parts on it has definitely been a joy.
@@4WD247 exactly right. Pity I can’t attach a photo of the old rig all done up. Might have to meet graham somewhere and show off the old rig. When is he in Perth next and I’ll meet him somewhere. Would love to go an ausolo trip with him in my touring rig
@@MicksGarageDarts only one problem with that purchase. Since the airbag recall and buy back nl pajeros are very hard to find and parts even worse. I was lucky not to loose my nl cause it’s got airbags but just outside the recall date so got very lucky.
@@dantrucker7623 yes the recall has been a mongrel. I hear now they are replacing the bags but those brought back are still gone. I ha e a mate with an NL with no bags and still see a few around in my area. Absolutely love my NM 3.5Lthough and never plan to part with it
I have a 1991 jeep cherokee xj With 300,000 miles on it still runs strong I just built a whole new drawer system with a sleeping platform in the back and soon I will be upgrading my two front seats. This is something I would never get rid of..
I just sold my first suv with 265k that was an ‘03 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I’ve put over 100k on. And I got a 2004 Toyota Tacoma sr5 trd with the 3.4l with 460k on it for $800, and it was a one owner and it jumped timing, put it back in time with a new water pump and belt and she’s been awesome for the past month or so
the 06 rodeo has the 4JH1 engine, they're a bit slower than the 4JJ1 that came into the RA7 in 2007 but i also have a 2006 dual cab iTD Rodeo and i love it for the reliability and its ground clearance
That’s me mate I’m the one the mentioned and I’m settled on holding on, now finally decided I’ll get a steel tray and 1200mm canopy, 2 inch lift with 32’s and a couple smaller items to. Cheers 4WD 24/7
@@roocrew86 cheers mate will do 🍻 am I the only one who notices that it slowly gets more sluggish after a good service? It feels like it’s slowly losing a bit of power
I have a 1996 80 Series LC GXL. Inherited it from my older sister who's owned it since new and has never taken it off-road. They stopped driving it regularly in the past 10 yrs. They kept it registered but it mostly sat on their driveway. After bugging her for a few years to sell it to me, she finally relented and gave it to me (free) 2yrs ago with only 84k kms on the clock. Other than a new battery, it started first go. I've then had all the brake disc and pads replaced, and had all fluids flushed plus a general service. Now it runs like new - it feels tight, not even a rattle. When it was up on the hoist, I saw the underneath of the car has not a single scratch. I'm now slowly turning it into an overland tourer. I have no plans to sell it - even if I get a newer 4WD, I'll keep the 80.
Don't have a 4wd yet do my job situation but just landed a mining a job and plan to get a new hilux in a few years. Watching you guys have made me want a 4WD that much more 👌
On the subject of cars I could never sell, it would be my current 2000 reg double-cab Hilux (LN165). My mum had one when I was growing up and it cemented my love for Toyotas, specifically that one. Always dreamt of getting one so the day I could afford to I jumped straight on it. 9 hour round trip to pick it up, it had seen life as a lumberjack's work truck so it was used for what it was designed for but had been well cared for. Had it 3 years now, it'll serve me to the day I die!
I have a 2005 Lexus GX470 here in the states. It’s a 120 series prado to the rest of the world, but it has a 4.7L V8. It has 294,000 miles on it. It’s lightly modified, lifted, decent tires, snorkel, lighting, and very well maintained. I’ve gone back and forth about selling since I got it because it has so many miles on it. Once I did all the work to it it’s been a wonderful machine. I’ve had it in some fun places and have plans to take it to more. Issue is I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a larger pickup truck to tow a track car, but larger pickups aren’t as fun off road. It’s such a dilemma. I love my gx more than anything else I’ve had but it just doesn’t do the things I need it to.
@@petersd-maxadventures8079 You should think about what you said and delete your comment. Would you say that in person to a young bloke that you do not know? TH-cam would be a lot better if we were nicer to each other.

My son has picked up a HJ60 1984 model with 300000kms. Bought off a friend who owned from new. No rust full service history. He’s pulled the whole inside out to get all the red dust from several desert trips out and now fixing it all up. Was steal at 4K with 12 months rego, new BFG allterrians, arb compressor, cargo barrier, long range tank uhf. Pretty much good to go. All his mate said by something new but he loves it.. I think he got a bargain. Mal
Looking to upgrade in the next few years to a newer model D-Max. I've currently got a 02 dual cab MK Triton which has just over 200Kms, I wish I could keep it because its been a great vehicle and it has a lot a sentimental value. I'm now 30 years old/young and its the vehicle my father taught me to drive in, I bought it off my old man 5 years ago and I would love to hand it down to my son (he is only 2 so got a few years to wait). The main reason I'm looking to upgrade specifically to the new D-Max is because of the affordability, safety, reliability and towing compacity seeing as the MK has a limit of 1500kg. With the young family I want them to experience this great land and the safest way I can make that happen is towing something for the whole family to sleep in, and keep the misses happy.
Hi boys! I have a 2004 ra rodeo the 4jh1 with a power chip ,3" zorst and 2"lift. With 415 000km a couple oil leaks now but always a 5000km service. It still goes good
Mt current 4wd is 8 years old. Going to have a make over and then it will be driven and looked after until it finally dies. As it's on its last legs I plan to do a custom build from the ground up.
I sold a 99 TF Rodeo space cab, I drove for 17 years. Sold it with 175,000 on the clock. I wanted a Dmax but due to working away all the time and not driving my Ute much, I bought a 2007 RA 4JJ1 dual cab with 250, 000kms. I do all my own work on my Ute, rebuilt the front end, cv shafts, diff drop etc. Love the newer 4JJ1 and service every 10,000km or 12 months. Diff oils etc every 5 services. Oils and filters are cheap
I currently have a 2013 Isuzu Dmax, its the first 4wd I have owned but I love it. It’s got 240,000km on the clock and the only mod I have is a set of AT tyres. I have big plans for it but I honestly dont think I will ever change cars. This car suits me and I love the 4j motor. I hope to keep it running for as long as possible.
I own a 2006 Toyota Hilux 3 litre turbo diesel and I can see why the ole Hilux is the number one selling car in Aus. Turn the key and off you go. I have had no hassles since I purchased my ole girl in 2013 with 180,000kms on the clock. Now she has 273,000km andshe is still going strong. If anything I would much rather spend my hard earned dollars on my own rig and keep her going then risk buying someone elses lemon/problem. Cheers guys love the shows and keep up the great work!
Guys I’ll never sell my cruiser, Sallythecruiser 1993 75series she has 501xxxkm on her and just going through the stage of turbo the 1HZ. It’s still running like a gem so can’t wait to drive it with the turbo on it!! Keep up the good work guys
Sold my Landrover Discos years ago - no regrets! Now I drive a LC 105 and I am about to buy a LC 60 - love the Toyotas! And I have bought my shirts too! They are going all the way to the US then to me here in Cambodia! Love your videos!
Having own several makes over the years from jackaroo to land cruisers currently running a px2 ranger. The 4WD I wish i kept was my 03 79 series single cab, would happily get back in an 80 series.
Good thing about old rigs, if there is a lockdown there is always something to weld, wrench, clean or patch. Doesn´t get boring, for example my diesel tank decided to start leaking 3 weeks ago.
At the moment I’m rocking a rusty tb42e gq patrol that I am practically in love with. It’s practically beyond repair but my heart is set on bringing her back to life. So upgrade and repair it is😂
I have a 1995 Pajero it has done all the tracks in Glasshouse. Once I finish uni I would love to upgrade to the New Ford Bronco that’s coming out I think they look amazing.
I went from a current Prado 150 with the 1GD-FTV back to a older Prado 150 with the 1KD-FTV the logic being that newer car was $40,000 more and I just couldn’t see the value. After doing the injectors and cleaning the EGR system this old 150 is a rocket in comparison to the newer Prado. The bonus is I am no longer to worried about some scratches and the underpinnings are identical which means the technology is moving with me. No issues with DPFs anymore more power simple transmission and better economy, having a ball now and it owes me nothing!
I've got.a 2004 Jeep Cherokee (KJ) with 260k on the clock. I'm stuck between upgrading it to be able to take on harder tracks and do more remote touring, or either saving that money and putting it towards a whole newer vehicle. Decisions, decisions...cheers guys. keep up the great vids
I had bought a landrover series 2a when I was 15, roughly one year back, and i sold it just for the cash now looking back I wish I'd had put some tyres on it and had some fun.

I have a 2002 jackaroo 3.5lt v6 and have nothing more than a 2 inch lift on 32inchers with ifs front and coil rear. It has done everything and more in the hills and on the sand. Isuzu trooper for the win
We just replaced my 4x4 because it was at the point that I was constantly chasing leaks all over the engine, lots of issues with the clutch and during my last trans oil changed I had teeth in the oil. Switched from a 2000 xterra to a 2007 fj cruiser. Thats quite a upgrade in power and comfort and much quieter on the blacktop
The old original HJ45 we had out the farm needed 3 glows before cranking but it would fire every time. Still in the grandparents shed registered under an invitation licence.
2007 SR5 Luxury car pet V6, if it ant broken don’t change it, one thing is regular servicing and it’ll go a long way in the long run, on and off road, had no issues to date, 🍺👍.
Great vid guys, regretful sale back in 1995 i traded my 1986 cruiser ute in for a SS Comodore ute cause it was cool I didn't 4wd for 4 years after that bad move. Gave my brother the 61 series 12ht and bought my 100 series fte 2004 landcruiser absolutely magic👍
I bought my 93 HZJ75 in 1997
it has 1million 1hundred and 90 thousand KLM on the clock
Original engine 3rd gearbox 6 alternators and 2 startermotors
This year I have painted it with raptor had the rear diff rebuilt ( the airlocker has 550000 on it)
gearbox and transfer rebuilt and just had the Front diff rebuilt and a airlocker fitted
I want to turbo it next but not sure it will handle it
Had an 05 hilux with a decent amount of bells and whistles, have now moved to a 2018 hilux.. night and day difference!
That's a bugger mate. Hope she's back on the road
For me its the love of the older solid axle vehicles that drew me in and the reliability.
melted a piston in my 06 SR hilux, upgrading to a stock 105 to start again. up the yota's!!!
Swap the underbelly spare for a second fuel tank and move the spare up to the front of the flatbed)
I know the 2500 is a LOT of truck to try and get through a technical trail, but there are features that it is virtually impossible to survive out here without.

My old man got given a 3rd gen hilux that had clocked 1m before it was given to him. He owned that ute for 20 years or so and he also clocked it over. It later went to the wreckers with 164000km and almost rusted in half.
I've got a 105, love it but wanna upgrade, not the 105, the missus Ford Focus to a Dual Cab or modern wagon.
06 td42 coil cab gu patrol never going to sell this weapon 😍

@@xMods-ld8nx Most people get this chassis to be an overlanding rig, not a rock crawler. On-road and fire road/corrugation handling is really good as-is and it is plenty capable on the trail. I’d do a long-travel kit before I went solid axle

Topic idea for you - At what point on common rail diesels do you need to consider major overhauls (fuel injectors and pump, clutch rebuild etc)?
I went from a current Prado 150 with the 1GD-FTV back to a older Prado 150 with the 1KD-FTV the logic being that newer car was $40,000 more and I just couldn’t see the value. After doing the injectors and cleaning the EGR system this old 150 is a rocket in comparison to the newer Prado. The bonus is I am no longer to worried about some scratches and the underpinnings are identical which means the technology is moving with me. No issues with DPFs anymore more power simple transmission and better economy, having a ball now and it owes me nothing!
