Wow that Signia crown looks amazing! Too bad they are not bringing a plug in hybird to USA or Canada yet, and only planning on selling only 1 trim , the limited in Canada. It’s a shame a beautiful vehicle like the venza is going to be discontinued!

I'm guessing Toyota/Lexus will really ramp PHEV and full EV models once their dedicated battery factory in North Carolina USA is up and running in late 2025.

A lot of overlap between Crown and Lexus but before too long Lexus is committed to going all EV so maybe this is a longer term way of offering a luxury option to those who prefer hybrid.

Lexus plans to sell *only* BEVs in North America by 2030 (and the years that lead up to 2030 would already see the non-BEVs dwindling). I don't think there's a concrete date for Toyota but we can be sure it would be much later.

    • @witchdoktor69
      @witchdoktor69 ปีที่แล้ว

@JohnHawksley87 Toyota owns Lexus. By 2030, Toyota has said that one-third of its entire global production will be electric. That is a lot of vehicles. That is a commitment.

This is suppose to replace the current short lived resurrected Venza. But the beef I have with this replacement model is current Venza has head-up-display and power steering options. Crown Signia doesn't have these options.

Love you two. Well done with the presentation chemistry.👏
About the Crown Estate, I love it, especially the interior. But when you mention premium stitching missing, I had to agree. Also, the naming “Signia” could’ve just been “Estate” which sounds better, and the missing Crown logo is another zonk. Otherwise I think it’s a worthy successor to the almighty Venza.

  • @nigee_219

From Venza a SUV to Crown Signia, a WAGON. In the 80’s the CROWN series was the top of Toyota’s line that tower its lower end models like the Corona, Cressida and Corolla. So bringing back the Crown series is great but it kind of lost its “prestige” it had in the 80’s.

  • @brianwhitney9181

The Venza was appreciated but buyers could not get one as Toyota could not meet demand. It was a Japan built vehicle and people who made deposits for same were left empty handed.

But I think this Crown Signia looks pretty good.

If Toyota calls it a station wagon or "Estate", they won't sell any to Americans. If they call it a SUV, Americans will make it a best seller and there will be a wait list.

Yes, it would be a disaster if the headlights test out as Marginal or Poor! The current (now last gen) Camry is a "Top Safety Pick +" and the current Crown hasn't been tested yet. Thanks you two for going over this car together, you did a great job. Kirk is right, this is a larger (?) and more upscale Outback. It will be a hit.
I love the proportions of this vehicle (I love wagons, if I can call it that, and have owned three of them over the years), and from the moment I saw this revealed with all four Crown variants, I knew I wanted it. But I really don't understand the product planners or whoever decides what content goes in what vehicles. Isn't the Crown line of vehicles meant to represent the best of Toyota, as in the most luxurious/exclusive line of vehicles? Well then Toyota, here's my list of features I was expecting but am not seeing. (It turns out that some of the equipment in my list may be available, but isn’t on the vehicle at the auto show &/or wasn't mentioned in the reviews I've watched.)
    1. Hybrid Max (HM) powertrain. It's available on the other Crown, so why not this one? What a disappointment. Toyota, I hope you offer this later, perhaps in a Platinum trim that has these other "missing" features (see below.) David and/or Kirk, are you aware of any shortages of any of the components of the HM powertrain that would require Toyota to prioritize what receives HM and what doesn't?
    2. Head Up Display (HUD.) I realize the other Crown here in North America doesn't have one, but, if this is the premium nameplate for Toyota, why omit a feature that is available on the brand-new 9th generation Camry (and is on the Venza that this vehicle is replacing)?
    3. Traffic Jam Assist (TJA.) Turns out at least one reviewer has said that TJA *is* available in a package, but this pre-production (prototype?) vehicle didn't have the driver attention monitor camera(s) so I assumed TJA was unavailable.
    4. Fourth generation hybrid system instead of Fifth. This is according to a Toyota spokeswoman quoted in a video by the "Driven Car Reviews with Tom Voelk" car review channel. The new Camry (and Prius and Corolla) uses the newest 5th generation system. Is this an issue of total system output? I.E. the Signia is quoted at 243 hp, but the new Camry has less. Is the 5th gen system intended for use only in smaller, lighter vehicles?
    5. 360 cameras. Turns out that 360 cameras will be available in a package, but perhaps not on this specific show vehicle (no one has mentioned it so far, and I’ve watched a lot of reviews on this vehicle.)
    6. Parking aids. The other North American Crown has Advanced Park on the Platinum trim. What about this Signia? Please Toyota?
    7. Parking sensors. I didn't see evidence of them, nor did I see them mentioned in the press release (and I don’t recall any reviewer mentioning them.) I get that this isn’t the size of a Grand Highlander, but they would still be helpful and are available in many other vehicles. Please Toyota?
    8. Kick sensor for the rear hatch. This is available on many other vehicles. Maybe it's on this Crown Signia but I didn't see mention of it in the press release. Please Toyota? Update: Micah Muzio from Kelley Blue Book says there *is* a kick sensor available, just not on the car at the show.
    9. Electric tilt/telescopic steering wheel. That’s available on the Venza that this vehicle will be replacing.
As I said above, I suspect some, if not all these features could come in the form of a future Platinum trim level (or included in one or more packages on the Limited trim.) But I'm guessing it's a secret. It may depend on how well it sells as-is (topping out at the Limited trim level.) What do people think? I think that the more people that ask for these features, the greater the odds Toyota brings them.

The low location will affect illumination negatively, and the recessed placement will also create a shadow area close to car. This is a problem. If I bought the Signia I would add additional lights like on a rally car. Major f-up by Toyota.

Is there a chance that the crown series appeals to Lexus buyers that would prefer to not drive such a flashy vehicle. The stealth wealth crowd.
David- I wonder what the original concept or idea of Lexus. How was toyota going to manage producing Lexus branded vehicles and and crown series as well. I’ve been in a crown vehicle in Singapore long ago. Very rolls Royce like. Lexus is luxurious but I don’t feel they go after the RR market.

Toyota can call that color anything they want, but it looks like Mazda’s Polymetal Gray Metallic to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mazda and Toyota start sharing color palates along with drivetrains and other parts. Beautiful station wagon though.

Poor reporting to say this competes with NX or RX. NX 350h starts around 52K if you can find one plus whatever dealer mark-up. RX 350h is about $62k plus. The Signia XLE should start at about $43k. Interesting that Signia, Highlandrr, bz4x, RX, and RZ all share the same 112.2 wheelbase!

Lifted sedan wouldn’t be bad since the Camry seat height is so low like it’s trying to be a Camaro. A “lifted” sedan would just be a “sedan” from 10 years ago when they weren’t all lowered like they are now.
Too bad they ruined the Crown with the low roofline cutting the headroom.
It’s too big of a vehicle to have that cramped interior.
